What is your favourite drink when your reading?

I have to say I definitely like a warm drink when I am reading. I have been drinking recently a herbal tea with nettle and pear in it which is lovely but it is very hard to find in the UK. The other day a company called Leafy Bean Co sent me some samples of their tea to try, so I thought I would review them and see what they are like.

Leafy Bean Company - Leafy Bean Company

what was included in the bundle:

15 Berry Nice Indeed herbal infusion blend

15 Tea’s the season Christmas blend flavoured black tea with cinnamon

1 Duke of Earl Grey Black tea blend

1 Green Tea

1 Cheeky Cheery Cherry

1 Leafy Bean Tote Bag

Review for Berry Nice Indeed Herbal infusion blend

I have to say I love the packaging of these, the monkey is really cute and it feels and looks expensive. When I opened up the packaging, the smell is lovely, it reminds me when you open the packaging of a fruity jelly, it made my mouth water. The monkey on all of the packaging is vibrant and bold and stands out against the darker background.

The tea bag itself looks top quality too, and looking inside the bag there is a fair quantity of ingredients. I actually didn’t look at the ingredients before I tasted this one and I could name at least four of the 8 ingredients. The teabag itself is a thing of beauty. I like how it has a string too, it makes it feel of higher quality. So you take one tea and using boiling water, you let it brew for 3- 5 minutes, the colour on this one is a absolutely beautiful purple colour. It tastes really good, you can taste all the different flavours and they all work really well together. I feel as though this tea would be good on a cold winters day or also if you are feeling slightly under the weather, it would give you a little perk up.. I actually like to reuse a herbal tea bag so trying it with this, the colour is slightly less but the flavour is still there. I would give this one 5/5

The Tea’s the season Christmas Blend

It smells like Christmas and mulled wine all rolled in together. I am not a huge fan of Cinammon so was not overly keen on this one, it smells quite strong but the flavour is less subtle when drinking. It has a lovely amber colour to it, I can just imagine drinking it reading a festive read or around the fireplace. You can definitely taste some of the flavours that are in the ingredients like cinammon, clove and Vanilla. If it didn’t have the cinammon in it I would like it more but without it I just don’t think it would work. 4/5

Cheeky cheery cherry

For me this one was a little overpowering, it tasted very florally. I kind of expected it to have a redish colour to it because it is called Cheeky Cheery Cherry , but it was more golden yellow, still a nice colour, but for me it wasn’t too my taste, but I can see it being refreshing in the Summer time.

Duke of Earl Grey Black Tea Blend

I liked this one, it had a lovely amber colour and well rounded. A simple black tea but you can taste the bergamot and I feel as though it it is slightly different to normal early grey tea as it had a slight zing to it which complements it well.

The tote bag that came with the bundle is really good quality too, it is not too big or too small and will fit perfectly folded up in a handbag.

Overall I am impressed with these tea’s and I would certainly buy them myself, they have quite a few different ones that I would certainly want to try. The brand is on point and the packaging is top quality. The tea bags themselves look special and the tea itself has lovely flavours.

On the website it tells you about the Laura the founder and her story, It is quite a simple website but one that is easy to navigate round. You can decide whether to buy loose tea ( which personally I have never tried before) and teabags. There is something for everyone and also some really cool merchandise that I will definitely have to put on my Christmas list. They also sell gift cards which is a nice idea for Christmas and they also have fun stuff for the kids too.

Thank you for sending me the tea to review Laura, I really enjoyed doing these reviews and will be purchasing from you in the future.

Hungry By Grace Dent

Hungry By Grace Dent

From an early age, Grace Dent was hungry. As a little girl growing up in Currock, Carlisle, she yearned to be something bigger, to go somewhere better.

Hungry traces Grace’s story from growing up eating beige food to becoming one of the much-loved voices on the British food scene. It’s also everyone’s story – from treats with your nan, to cheese and pineapple hedgehogs, to the exquisite joy of cheaply-made apple crumble with custard. It’s the high-point of a chip butty covered in vinegar and too much salt in the school canteen, on an otherwise grey day of double-Maths and cross country running. It’s the real story of how we have all lived, laughed, and eaten over the past 40 years.

My Thoughts:

I have heard of Grace Dent but never really knew much about her life, this is an interesting memoir into her life growing up. I felt nostalgic reading about the kinds of foods Grace grew up on. I found it very relatable and some parts very amusing, I have an uppermost respect for Grace now, you never know what is going on in someone’s life or what they are going through at a time they are in the limelight. It was also inspiring to see how she managed to get herself on the career ladder too. I, like Grace remember a childhood of Beige, that really did make me laugh.

Summer at Rachel’s Pudding Pantry By Caroline Roberts

Summer at Rachel’s Pudding Pantry By Caroline Roberts

The Pudding Pantry opens its doors for summer.

And there are wedding bells on the horizon . . .

The sun is shining as Rachel and her gorgeous beau, Tom, prepare to tie the knot at Primrose Farm.

It takes a village to pull off the perfect country wedding and Rachel couldn’t be more grateful for her friends and family as they roll out the haybales and string up the bunting – all she needs to do is focus on her Happy Ever After.

But no wedding is without drama. A face from the past is looking to stir up trouble in the village and there’s a secret following Rachel all the way up the aisle . . .

With old friends, new promises and a little borrowed time, will Rachel get the wedding of her dreams?

My Thoughts:

This is book three in the Pudding Pantry Series and I have enjoyed all of them, I know I am a bit late in reading this one as it is not the Summer anymore but I needed something light to read in between reading some other genres. It was the perfect pick me up, but don’t read this book on an empty stomach as all the puddings and cakes will leave you feeling hungry. I love being back here with the characters, we meet up with Rachel and Tom and hear about their upcoming wedding, but is everything as rosy as it seems? you really get a little bit of everything in this book, family, friends, romance, a great bunch of characters and most importantly some delicious puddings and sweet treats. The thing I really like about the series is in every book there are recipes, so if you fancy giving one a go, you can.

Silent Night By Nell Pattison

Silent Night By Nell Pattison

What happened while they were sleeping?

A school for the deaf takes an overnight trip to the snowy woods. Five teenagers go to sleep, but only four wake up. Leon is missing, and a teacher’s body is found in the forest…

Sign language interpreter Paige Northwood is brought in to help with interrogations. Everyone at the school has a motive for murder – but they all have an alibi.

As Paige becomes increasingly involved, she suspects there’s something sinister going on. With the clock ticking to find Leon, only one thing is certain: the killer is among them, and ready to strike again…

My Thoughts:

Another brilliant read from the author Nell, if you haven’t read The Silent House you really should it is really good. This story centres around a school for the deaf, when a student goes missing and a teacher ends up dead, who was it? I love the way Nell brings the story to life, you can’t just stop at one chapter, each chapter makes you want to read on to find out more, you suspect one person but is it really them? all the students are acting suspicious but do they really know what is going on? There are lots of questions I tried to answer and everyone made me highly suspicious that it was them but I didn’t know what the outcome would be at all. I like how Paige’s story is woven between the story, and the fact is apart from Nell’s previous novel I have never read a book about deaf people, I think this should change. I look forward to the next book.

Forgive Me By Susan Lewis

Forgive Me By Susan Lewis

This is Claudia Winters’s last chance for a fresh start. Changing her name and leaving her old life behind, she has fled to the small town of Kesterly with her mother and daughter. Here, she hopes they can be safe for the first time in years.

But the past can’t stay hidden forever. And even as Claudia makes new friends and builds a new life, she can’t help feeling it’s all about to catch up with her… Until one disastrous night changes everything forever.

My Thoughts:

Wow what a story, even though I have finished it I have still been thinking out it. The book highlights a few things including an abusive relationship, Restorative Justice and recovery and rehabilitation. I can’t seem to get my head around Restorative Justice, this book has opened up my eyes to it and I still don’t really understand why you would want to do it but hopefully I will never be in that position where I would have to. Claudia, her mother and her daughter have had to make a fresh start away from their home because of an abusive relationship, Marcus is capable of anything and the girls do not want to be found. Just when life is getting back on track, something utterly devastating happens and Claudia is left sickened that Marcus has found them but has he? I don’t want to give anything away but I really admire Marcy, Claudia’s mother, I feel as though she is a very courageous woman, with having her family and friends around her I knew she would get there in the end. The rehabilitation process is a long and hard one speaking from experiences, not like what Marcy has had to go through but it is a long process and as long as you have your family behind you, I know it can be done. Susan Lewis books always have a habit of staying with you for a long time. I think this is a very good book and written well. It just begs the question could you forgive or would you?

When I know your Name By Gemma Lawrence

This book is dangerous, once you have picked it up, nothing else will stand in it’s way and you wont want to put it down. It is a very good read with believable characters, I don’t think I have read a book with this type of story before, the fact that this is a debut novel just makes me even more happy as it is full of suspense and you never know what will happen next. I look forward to more books by Gemma in the future. This is definitely one I would recommend. This is Gemma’s debut novel.

Wild Horses on the Salt By Anne Montgomery

This is Rebecca’s story, after leaving a very traumatic time in her life, she escapes far away from a very bad relationship, she ends up in Arizona, where she meets a few new people including Noah and also some wild horses. Will her past catch up with her? will she finally be free from her past? I found it a really sad story, Rebecca has been through a lot and I wished for her to find peace and happiness. I liked the setting of this story and the small details really make a difference. I liked the parts about the wild horses as I love horses, it was also interesting to learn about the way they are managed in the wild. I found the ending was a little predictable but I really enjoyed the story.

The Selected Poems By Kevin Morris

There is a wide range of poems in this book, the book is split into four different sections. When I read a poem now I always look into the poem more, Kevin the author has the ability to show that it is much more than a poem and that they will stay with you and you will remember them in time. There are a few poems that I liked the fridge’s hum, made me think of everyday objects that make noises and you don’t realise until they have stopped. One of the most powerful poems in this book is What is a double bed? It made me think that what I have I must cherish. I loved the section on nature, I am a big nature fan, I really liked all these poems and will be reading these poems over and over again when I need time to reflect.

Christmas at Aunt Elsie’s By Emily Harvale

Christmas at Aunt Elsie’s By Emily Harvale

Lottie Short isn’t looking forward to Christmas. Her boyfriend has dumped her and she’s also lost her job. Lottie and her beloved spaniel, Merry, are facing the festive season – and a bleak future, alone.

But a Christmas card and round-robin letter give Lottie hope. And as the first snowflakes fall, she’s on her way to the tiny seaside village of Seahorse Harbour to visit her distant aunt. She’ll stay in a cosy B&B and get some bracing, sea air. That might lift her spirits.

What she doesn’t plan for is a blizzard, her aunt taking a fall, or the dramas unfolding all around her. But at least there’s a warm welcome at Aunt Elsie’s cottage … and a roaring log fire in the village pub.

That’s not all that might bring a rosy glow to Lottie’s cheeks. Asher Bryant, the local vet is pretty hot, and Lottie also hits it off with another visitor to Seahorse Harbour. This festive season might be better than she hoped.

And when Lottie gets more than one surprise this Christmas, perhaps she and Merry won’t be spending the New Year on their own.

My Thoughts:

This cover is very eye catching and right away makes me think of Christmas. If you ever want to escape the real world then I recommend this book or any of Emily’s to read as there is just something about her writing that makes you forget the real world. This is Lottie’s story and she is facing a Christmas by herself, a few things have gone wrong and she just wants to wallow with her cute dog Merry, after a Christmas card turns things around can she see the light at the end of the tunnel? I love any book that involves animals and Merry just seems utterly adorable. A cute man may be on the horizon for Lottie too. This is the second book in the Seahorse Harbour Series, but can be read as a standalone. Looking forward to this series, Emily is a fantastic writer and I urge people to read at least one of her books, I promise you, you will want to read them all. Reading a book by Emily is just like giving yourself a great big warm hug.

Six Idiots Witness A Murder By Rob Hickman

Six Idiots Witness A Murder By Rob Hickman

Six Idiots Witness a Murder is a character-driven, comedy murder mystery set across two countries. The story follows a group of people who work for a traditional British clothing company based in Brighton that has decided to expand into the USA. A few months after setting up their new office in Atlanta, the company is hit by an embarrassing computer problem and is forced to send a team over to the USA to investigate.

Once in the Georgia heat, our heroes (if you can call them that) meet a colourful cast of locals, find themselves in the wrong place at the wrong time and witness a murder that has the local police both baffled and disinterested in equal measure – but mainly disinterested. Can they fix the computer issues, solve the murder and escape with their lives when all they want to do is have a good time and annoy everyone they come into contact with? ***Six Idiots Witness a Murder is part murder mystery, part absurd comedy and part travelogue – all wrapped in a story of transatlantic connections and new friendships. Just don’t be late to the Phobia Workshop if Vinny is attending that week.

My Thoughts:

If you need a laugh then this is the book for you, I am definitely glad I read this book as it is just what I needed. I found myself agreeing to quite a lot of things in this book especially about old people going out at the weekend, I am always saying why are they out now when they have all week to go out. I laughed a lot and it really cheered me up. I liked the story, the characters and it moves at a quick pace. This is book one, I can’t wait till book two.

Wedding Vows and Cornish Ribbons (Return to Cornwall Book 1) By Laura Briggs

Wedding Vows and Cornish Ribbons (Return to Cornwall Book 1) By Laura Briggs

Event planner Julianne Rose is on the verge of making her dreams of ‘rescuing’ weddings in need of help a reality. She and business partner Kitty have finally finished transforming the dilapidated barn into a chic event space, and they even have a new client eager to use it—a quirky, charming space organization guru named Deirdre who seems capable of organizing everything but her own special day. As if that wasn’t enough, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity soon presents itself through the who’s who of their sleepy little Cornish village: the chance to step into the event planning void for a posh bride in desperate need of an emergency salvage for her wedding plans. A wedding that could establish Julianne and Kitty as two of Cornwall’s best event planners if all goes well.

But an event that big doesn’t come without a catch. To persuade the posh clients to commit to them, Julianne and Kitty must first impress them with the ceremony for their current bride-to-be—a task that seemed easy, but proves complicated when stories emerge involving a history of broken engagements, cold feet, and commitment phobia on the part of Deirdre, who soon begins to exhibit possible symptoms of nervousness regarding her big day. Faced with a real case of runaway bride—and with their future reputation at stake— they must attempt to the impossible task of holding together a wedding fraying at its seams, and Julianne finds herself seemingly facing a choice between what’s best for Save the Date’s survival and what’s best for her client’s happiness, regardless of the cost.

Are Julianne’s worst fears about to be realized, with Deirdre gearing up for yet another run from the church altar? Can she persuade the posh but sympathetic bride Alexi to take a risk on Save the Date regardless of it? And will Julianne and the handsome-but-equally-busy Matt find time to smolder anything in their marriage besides leftover chicken pie?

My Thoughts:

I love a book set in Cornwall, you can just imagine being there. I had not read any of Laura’s books before so didn’t know what to expect. Laura is a very good writer who brings the reader into the story with great description and warmth. When reading books about weddings, I always remember our wedding and was so glad when my husband and I decided to elope. At the end of the day the day is about whoever you want to marry and yourselves. Now reading this book made me realise that it was the best decision we ever made. Also this book gives you a little insight into what a wedding planner does which I found interesting. It was a good story but I just find people go absolutely crazy over weddings when I don’t think it should be like that. But that is my opinion. I look forward to book 2.
