My Thoughts:

I bought this book as I had heard quite a few good reviews on it. I didn’t enjoy it as much as I thought I might. I think it is a book best read when you have time to sit down and concentrate maybe take it on holiday. I liked the plot and there are twists and turns but I kind of had worked out a few of them along the way. As this is Clare’s debut novel, I would still be interested in reading her next book.

Vets In Love By Cathy Woodman

Vets In Love By Cathy Woodman

cathy woodman

Love is in the air in Talyton St George, Devon’s most romantic town.

Glamorous GP Nicci (aka the galloping doctor) and Matt, the very handsome equine vet, have caught each other’s eye. On paper it looks like a match made in heaven.

There are problems, however: Matt’s jealous ex-girlfriend being one of them. But the main trouble is Nicci’s determination to qualify for the Badminton Horse Trials. Because although Matt treats horses for a living, a tragedy in his past makes him terrified every time Nicci competes.

So when Nicci has a terrible accident, a devastated Matt gives her an ultimatum: it’s him or the riding.

Nicci can’t believe he means it. But can she risk putting him to the test?

My Thoughts:

Each book in the Talyton St George series can be read as a standalone novel, but I would certainly recommend reading them all in order as you will get to know the characters and their stories. This is the sixth book and I really enjoyed it. I am a big fan of Cathy Woodman’s books, she has a lovely style of writing that is like being wrapped in a big warm hug. I loved the story and I did really feel for Nicci at times. I enjoyed reading about the horses side of the book as I used to ride and this has made me really want to get back into it. A lovely little story that you will want to read over and over again.

My Thoughts:

I was given this book by a fellow book friend of mine and I couldn’t wait to start it, I am a big fan of Carole Matthews books and I have all of her books. This is book 4 and I would recommend reading all of the other ones before this, so you can get to know all the women. Reading this book made me feel like a warm hug, I feel like I know all the ladies personally now and I would love to have friends that are truly great like that. Such a brilliantly written book, I wonder if there will be a book 5, I do hope so.

When an intriguing novel appears on Catherine’s bedside table, she curls up and begins to read.

But as she turns the pages she is horrified to realize she is a key character, a main player.

This story will reveal her darkest secret.

A secret she thought no one else knew…

My Thoughts:

I was given this book as a Christmas present as I had seen it and heard about it and the plot intrigued me. I think so far this year it has got to be my favourite book of the year. I have never read anything like it and probably wont, I managed to read it in a day and I literally couldn’t put it down, it kept me hooked all day. I just didn’t want it to end. There are so many twists and turns that you will never expect and a few moments where I was like oh my god! It was a weird sensation once I had finished it but I felt drunk, really loved this book, this is one I would read and read again. If there is one book you read this year it has to be this one.

The Parisian Christmas Bake Off By Jenny Oliver

The Parisian Christmas Bake Off By Jenny Oliver

jenny oliver

Welcome to the most celebrated patisserie competition in Paris – ready, steady, bake!

Watching snowflakes settle on the Eiffel Tower, Rachel Smithson’s cosy English village feels very far way – as, thankfully, does her commitment-phobic ex, probably already kissing someone else under the mistletoe. But Rachel hasn’t come to Paris to mope she’s come to bake. Hard.

Because the search for Paris’s next patisserie apprentice is about to begin! And super-chef judge Henri Salernes is an infamously tough cookie. But Rachel isn’t about to let her confidence (or pastry) crumble. She’s got one week, mounds of melt-in-the-mouth macaroons and towers of perfect profiteroles to prove that she really is a star baker.

As well as clouds of flour, and wafts of chocolate and cinnamon, there’s definitely a touch of Christmas magic in the air… Rachel hasn’t come to Paris looking for a fairy-tale romance, but the city of love might gift-wrap her one anyway…

My Thoughts:

I was given this book as a swap, I liked the look of it and it looked like a nice easy read which it was. Yes, I know Christmas has been and gone, I know some people will only read books about or related to Christmas at Christmas time but I really don’t mind reading them whenever. This was such a lovely little read, I had to read something quick inbetween review books so it kind of broke it up for me. I loved reading about all the cakes and bakes the competitors were making. There are also some recipes at the back of this book, which is nice. I may even try and make some myself.

The Bones Of You By Debbie Howells

The Bones Of You By Debbie Howells

debbie howells

The Bones of You is a gripping psychological thriller from author Debbie Howells; a story of full of dark secrets, obsession and suspense.

I have a gardener’s inherent belief in the natural order of things. Soft-petalled flowers that go to seed. The resolute passage of the seasons. Swallows that fly thousands of miles to follow the eternal summer.

Children who don’t die before their parents.

A community in shock

When eighteen-year-old Rosie Anderson disappears, the idyllic village where she lived will never be the same again. Local gardener Kate is struck with guilt. She’d come to know Rosie well, and thought she understood her – perhaps better even than Rosie’s own mother.

A family torn apart

Rosie was beautiful, kind and gentle. She came from a loving family and she had her whole life ahead of her. Who could possibly want to harm her? And why?

A keeper of secrets

Kate is convinced the police are missing something. She’s certain that someone in the village knows more than they’re letting on. As the investigation deepens, so does Kate’s obsession with solving the mystery of what happened to Rosie.

My Thoughts:

This is a book I liked the look of from Richard and Judy’s book club reads. I am really into my psychological thrillers at the moment so this was a must to read. This book is Debbie Howells first novel too and I loved it, I was so into it from the first chapter I couldn’t put it down. I loved the storyline, it felt creepy and I honestly thought I knew what had happened but as the story went on, I wasn’t sure if I had got it right and I hadn’t. Lots of twists and turns make this a must read of this year. A book I will be recommending to friends and family and one that I wont forget. I can’t wait for Debbie’s next book now.

The Forgotten Summer By Carol Drinkwater

The Forgotten Summer By Carol Drinkwater

the forgotten summer

This title will be released on February 11, 2016.

Secrets ripen and fester over a long sweltering summer in France . . .

The annual grape harvest at the Cambon family’s magnificent vineyard is always a cause for celebration. But not this year. When an accident destroys the crop, leaving the estate facing ruin, Clarisse Cambon knows exactly who to blame – her daughter-in-law Jane.

It’s just the latest incident in a decades-long feud whose origin both women have concealed from Luc, who struggles to keep his wife and mother on speaking terms. But is Luc the saint he appears to be? When tragedy strikes, Jane is thrown into doubt. What secrets has her husband been keeping?

Forced to take charge of the ailing vineyard, Jane uncovers further proof that Luc may not be the man she fell in love with twenty years ago. And, worse still, she knows that her old enemy Clarisse is the only one who knows the truth . .

My Thoughts:

I want to say thank you to lovereading for sending me an advanced copy of this book. I loved it, even though it is cold at the moment reading this book made me look forward to the summer. What I found interesting was reading about the process of making wine and olives too, it made me want to be right there in the thick of it and I could almost imagine I was. Carol has clearly researched into vineyards very well. I think this is a book to enjoy at any time of the year. But I think it is best read in the evening with a nice big glass of wine.

A Little Sugar, A Lot of Love: With cupcakes, coffee and karma By Linn B Halton

A Little Sugar, A Lot of Love: With cupcakes, coffee and karma By Linn B Halton

linn b halton

Life isn’t all love and cupcakes …
Katie has had her fair share of bad luck, but when she finally realises her dream of opening a bakery it seems things can only get better.
But the reality of running a business hits Katie hard and whilst her partner, Steve, tries to help she can’t help but feel that the situation is driving them further apart. Could Katie be set to lose her relationship and her dream job?
Then, one winter’s day, a man walks into her shop – and, in the space of that moment, the course of Katie’s life is changed.
But nobody finds happiness in the blink of an eye. Sometimes it takes two Christmases, three birthdays and a whole lot of cake to get there.

My Thoughts:

I was given this book for an honest review. I loved it. It had everything I ask for in a book, great storyline, interesting characters and baking. I really felt for Katie the main character to start with but then things look up for her and I had my fingers crossed that something good would happen to her. I thought this book was fabulous, but do not read on an empty stomach as you will get very hungry with all the talk about cakes.

Runaway Wife By Rowan Coleman

Runaway Wife By Rowan Coleman

runaway wife
Sometimes you have to have the courage to start over…

Rose Pritchard has fled her home and her abusive husband with little more than the clothes on her back – and her most precious possession, her seven year old daughter Maddie.

But Rose does have one other thing left – a glimmer of hope that she can build a better life for herself and her daughter, whatever it takes…

My Thoughts:

I bought this book to add to my collection of Rowan Coleman’s books. I loved this story, it was emotional as there are a few personal issues in this story. I love the way even though there are personal issues, Rowan has approached it in a sensitive way but with lots of detail so she has obviously done lots of research. I loved the plot and I fell in love with Rose’s daughter Maddie she is such a sweetheart but can hold her own. I found this book emotional but also heartwarming.
