The Night Stalker By Clare Donoghue

The Night Stalker By Clare Donoghue

night stalker

This title will be released on the 10th August 2017

Dead Woman’s Ditch. The site of a grisly two-hundred-year-old murder – and a recent hit and run. When a young woman’s body is found at the macabre landmark in Somerset’s Quantock Hills, DI Mike Lockyer and Sergeant Jane Bennett are called in to investigate.

They find a community gripped by fear and superstition. The locals won’t venture out at night, believing there’s a man stalking the hills; a phantom cloaked in folklore and legend, keeping the sinister legacy of Dead Woman’s Ditch alive.

Confronted by a hostile CID team and a murder victim with close ties to their own squad, Lockyer and Bennett will have to accept what they can’t see before they can find what’s really there . . .

My Thoughts:

Not having read any of Clare’s books before I was intrigued to see what her writing was like. I am starting to read a few crime thrillers so thought I would give this one a go. The cover looks mysterious and the title of the book looks creepy how it is slightly distorted. I read this book within three days and couldn’t put it down. I was captivated into the story the twists and turns made the story for me come to life, I was looking over my shoulder quite a bit. The descriptions were well written, it was certainly creepy but Clare is one to look out for in the future. A brilliantly written book.

lindsey kelk

This title will be released on September 7, 2017.

Winter in Manhattan…and someone’s keeping a secret.

The day her husband Alex picks up a backpack and goes travelling, Angela Clark promises to stay out of trouble and keep both Louboutins on the ground. So when her best friend’s boyfriend confides in her, it can’t hurt to help him pick out a ring at Tiffany’s surely? And when her fashion magazine announces major changes, being terminally late and winking at your new boss in the lift isn’t that bad, is it?

Then suddenly there’s another big secret Angela’s got to keep – and the man she loves is still thousands of miles away. As the wedding of the year looms, and Manhattan switches on its Christmas lights, Angela is going to need her friends by her side as her old life looks set to change forever.

My Thoughts:

I have to be honest and say I have not read many of Lindsey Kelks books especially none of them in this I heart series and I am not sure why. I think Lindsey is a great writer and I found this book quite amusing. I don’t think you necessarily need to read the ones previous but I am going to as I thoroughly enjoyed this story. I loved the start, the middle and the end.

I won this book in a goodreads competition.

Animal Ark Book Set 1 – 10 By Lucy Daniels

Animal Ark Book Set 1 – 10 By Lucy Daniels

animal ark

I have previously read Summer at Hope Meadows which is the follow on from all of these brilliant books. These are my childhood classics that I was very lucky to be able to purchase. There are over 60 of these books and when I was younger I did actually read them all. I have only purchased the first ten and read them from cover to cover.

Mandy is an animal lover and her parents own a vets practise so Mandy helps them out and with her best friend James who is also an animal lover it is a match made in heaven. I loved seeing what they use to get up to. Each book is a different story, I don’t think I have a favourite I just love them all. I was excited to see Lucy Daniel had a new book out recently called Summer at Hope Meadows where we catch up with Mandy and best friend James and see what they are getting up to. There are also some familiar faces from the old classics.

There are nice short reads with a few pictures too. Hopefully when I have children in the future I will be able to read these to them.

These books are not really available as they are quite old, if you did want to see if you could purchase them the best bet would be to try ebay.

Curves, Kisses and Chocolate Ice cream By Sue Watson

Curves, Kisses and Chocolate Ice cream By Sue Watson

Dani’s on a mission to get her life back on track by the end of the summer. Running, rowing, aerobics and more, but perhaps all she needs are sweet treats and a second chance?

Ten years ago, Dani fled Appledore with a broken-heart and a suitcase full of shattered dreams. Only now is she brave enough to put her past behind her and return for a summer selling homemade ice cream and getting fit by doing sit-ups by the sea.

But the new-look cafe is filled with old memories of Jude, her teenage sweetheart-turned-sour. She thinks of him every time she swirls warm sauce onto a ‘chocolate-bockaglory’ and even with the help of Chris, her gorgeous personal trainer, the urge to break her diet is everywhere she turns.

When Jude makes an appearance at the cafe on the eve of Dani’s birthday party, history threatens to repeat itself. Is Dani strong enough to say no? And is the love she’s been longing for much closer than she thinks?

My Thoughts:

This is the first book I have read by Sue Watson and it won’t be the last. Dani is the main character in this book and I think there are a women that would be able to relate to her. Like Dani I think you have to find something that truly makes you happy and go for it and not do it for other people. Do it for yourself. There are a few giggles in here too and also some very delicious sounding ice cream.

However, before long, his family are forced to accept that something has changed in Jacob. Their once loving son is slowly being replaced by a violent man whose mood swings leave them terrified – but is it their fault?

Jacob’s girlfriend, Rosie, is convinced the man she loves is suffering from stress. But when his moods turn on her, she begins to doubt herself – and she can only hide the bruises for so long.

When a terrible crime is committed, Jacob’s family are forced to confront their darkest fears. Has the boy they raised become a monster? Or is someone else to blame?

My Thoughts:

What a powerful novel. I have read all of most of Cathy Glass’s books and here she is writing under a new name Lisa Stone. I love the fact she has branched into crime thriller and I think she has done it really well. I was hooked and couldn’t put the book down. It was really interesting reading about cellular memory and how people can experience different personality changes after a transplant. I hope to read more crime thrillers from the author in the future.

My Thoughts:

The paperback cover of this book is absolutely stunning and so summery. It makes you want to escape and go on holiday somewhere warm. I have read one of Holly’s books before and after reading this one I will be reading more. This is a perfect read as it made me laugh, there were some interesting facts about sharks and the ending was so beautiful it made me have a tear in my eye. I really felt as though I connected with Holly and Riley reminded me a bit of my own husband. I loved when Darcy was making Riley try British food that was quite funny as he was not sure on some things. I loved this book. I will certainly be recommending it to friends and family.

Split Decision By Carmen Capuano

Split Decision By Carmen Capuano

carmen

How was Natalie to know that the decision she was about to make between two potential dates, would forever be a pivotal point in her life? That it would mark the time where childhood innocence ended?

How could she even imagine that the wrong decision would send her life spiralling into the stuff of nightmares from where she might not come out alive?

Life takes a cruel twist of fate when Natalie, a completely average [almost] 16 year old, is forced to make a split-second decision… a decision that will change her future and forever alter her perception of trust, love and the realities of life.

My Thoughts:

This is the second book I have read by Carmen and this one is about Natalie and how she has to make a split decision that could be an important point in her life. Written well and I wanted to see if Natalie made the right or wrong decision. The conversations were true to form.

Elephant and Pinky Moon By Lilac Mills

Elephant and Pinky Moon By Lilac Mills

lilac mills

Twenty-eight-year-old Nina lives a quiet, unassuming life, happy (ish) with her job, maybe not quite as happy with her non-existent love-life (but no one can have everything, right?) and content to trundle along with her nice, predictable daily routine.

That is, until Nina is persuaded to accompany her octogenarian grandmother on a beach holiday to Turkey. Nina envisages sedate walks along the promenade, afternoon naps by the pool, and bingo in the evening.

What she actually gets is too much vodka, adult games of “pin the tail on the donkey” and dancing on a bar whilst flaunting her knickers – and that’s just her gran!

My Thoughts:

After reading Lilac’s previous novel Under the cherry tree I was so excited about being asked to read and review her next book. This one was so funny, I got funny looks whilst reading this one on the bus. Nina is the main character but I have to say her gran is absolutely hilarious. Nina takes her gran on holiday with her and some of the things they get up to… so funny. Lilac Mills is certainly an author I want to read more of in the future.

Jane of Manchester By J.G.Dow

Jane of Manchester By J.G.Dow

jane of manchester

Jane’s life on the face of it isn’t really too bad…she has great friends like party girl Natasha who’s always up for a laugh and her close pal Polly, always there for her and of course her loving parents, but things could still be better…

Most people she knows are either married or have kids and she has been single a while now and wonders if a good man is ever to be encountered again. The single life is far from a quiet one for Jane however, as she is constantly getting dragged to night clubs and bars by Natasha and the crew as well as enduring a particularly boozy weekend away at the seaside!

Jane loves a lot about her life, disregarding rude plumbers in her flat and dealing with annoying superiors and a smug sister, but as a certain someone takes her eye, is everything about to change and get a whole lot more serious or is the single life determined to keep her captive a while longer yet…

My Thoughts:

This is the story of Jane who is a thirty year old woman who lives alone in the North of England. She has lots of things going for her including loving parents, supportive friends, a job and a supportive job but the thing Jane would love is a relationship and someone to love her. She sees all her friends in relationships or who are married and she wants it too. The book is well written and is written in the first person. There are some quite funny situations she gets herself into. I was surprised to learn this is the author’s debut novel as I found it better than some of the more well known authors books that I have read.

The Things We Learn When We’re Dead By Charlie Laidlaw

The Things We Learn When We’re Dead By Charlie Laidlaw

charlie

The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy meets The Lovely Bones in this surrealist, sci-fi comedy. When Lorna is run over, she wakes in a hospital in which her nurse looks like a young Sean Connery, she is served wine for supper, and everyone avoids her questions.

It soon transpires that she is in Heaven, or on HVN. Because HVN is a lost, dysfunctional spaceship, and God the aging hippy captain. She seems to be there by accident …Or does God have a higher purpose after all?

My Thoughts:

After fancying something completely different to what I normally read I was pleasantly surprised to be asked to read and review this book. I was happy to see that it was a nice chunky book that I could really get my teeth into. The storyline is very inventive and I found myself warming to Lorna the main character. I think it is a well written story and I am glad I have read it. I will certainly be looking out for more of Charlie’s books in the future. A big thumbs up from me.
