White Lies & Wishes By Cathy Bramley

White Lies & Wishes By Cathy Bramley

white lies

What happens when what you wish for is only half the story…?

Three strangers and a funeral, that’s all it takes for these women’s lives and wishes to intersect. Death has a funny way of showing you what you really want out of life… or so they say, anyway.

Jo is flirty and a little after thirty, but what she really wants is to get her business back on track and conquer her fear of heights. That’s what she’ll say when asked, anyway. She has things to prove and finding love can always wait…

Sarah has the best of both worlds, baby in one hand and job in the other. All she wants is to get that promotion, then all those missed bath times will be worth it. So she says, anyway. She can’t stop to think about it too long or she might drop something…

All Carrie wants is to shift the excess pounds and look good for summer. Wearing a bikini is all she has ever desired. So she has always said, anyway. But it’s not the only weight she’s carrying, dark secrets from her past are threatening to surface…

So the three unlikely new friends set themselves a deadline to get their lives in order; juggling blokes, babies and bikini bottoms along the way. There’s nothing to stop them from achieving their dreams – except those little white lies we all tell…

My Thoughts:

I am a big fan of Cathy’s books, there is just something lovely about curling up with one of her books and escaping from everyday life. The story is about three women who get to know each other and become good friends. I loved reading each women’s story, it was real life. I warmed to all three women and felt as though I was part of their friendship.

Ascension By Carmen Capuano

Ascension By Carmen Capuano

ascension

I am blessed–or cursed–with the ability to see the colour of peoples’ souls, something I dare not reveal. Keeping my secret hidden has kept me safe. Until now.
Now I am afraid that I can no longer hide from the evil in our society.

Our laws are intended–or so I have always believed–to protect us from sinfulness and chaos. But my friend, Sarah, is pregnant and unmarried.

Her child will be taken from her at birth and she will be forced into a life of shame. Time is slipping away. I must discover where the father of her child is and why he’s disappeared. But will the answers I find save, or destroy our society? Will they save, or destroy Sarah?

I’m torn between doing the right thing and the wrong thing. The trouble is that I don’t know which is which.
I settle for the truth. It’s all I have.

My Thoughts:

Carmen is a new author to me. I think she has writes really well with good descriptions. This was a hard story line to write about but I think she has done it really well. I wanted to find out what happened to Sarah who is pregnant and her baby once it is born will be taken away from her and she will have to live her life in shame. There were quite a few things worrying me as in what what would happen to Sarah and also her baby but the ending ties everything up neatly.

I was given a advanced copy of this book for an honest review.

Last Seen By Lucy Clarke

Last Seen By Lucy Clarke

Seven years ago, two boys went missing at sea – and only one was brought to shore. The Sandbank, a remote stretch of coast dotted with beach huts, was scarred forever.

Sarah’s son survived, but on the anniversary of the accident, he disappears without trace. As new secrets begin to surface, The Sandbank hums with tension and unanswered questions. Sarah’s search grows more desperate and she starts to mistrust everyone she knows – and she’s right to.

Someone saw everything on that fateful day seven years ago. And they’ll do anything to keep the truth buried.

My Thoughts:

I have loved Lucy’s previous novels and couldn’t wait to get started on this one. I love the fact that Lucy’s books are always based around the beach or the sea. I know she writes from a beach hut and when I am reading one of her books I can imagine her writing in her beach hut. It is a lovely feeling. This story gripped me from the first chapter, there are lots of twists and turns and I felt like I stopped breathing a few times as I didn’t see what was going to happen. Superbly written.

Thank you Harper Collins for sending me an advanced copy for an honest review.

The Woman at Number 24 By Juliet Ashton

The Woman at Number 24 By Juliet Ashton

juliet ashton

When your marriage falls apart, the last place you’d want your husband to move to is downstairs. Unfortunately for Sarah, up in the eaves at number 24, her ex-husband now lives one floor beneath her with his new wife. Their happiness floats up through the floorboards, taunting her.

A child psychologist, Sarah has picked up great sadness from the little girl, Una, who lives with her careworn mother three floors below, but is Sarah emotionally equipped to reach out?

The Spring brings a new couple to the house. Jane and Tom‘s zest for life revives the flagging spirits, and Sarah can’t deny the instant attraction to handsome Tom. Having seen at first hand what infidelity does to people, she’ll never act on it … but the air fizzes with potential.

The sunshine doesn’t reach every corner of number 24, however. Elderly Mavis, tucked away in the basement, has kept the world at bay for decades. She’s about to find out that she can’t hide forever.

My Thoughts:

I won this book in a competition, I was glad I won as this book looked really good even though I had not heard of the author before. I like the fact it is set in a house where multiple residents live. I loved getting to know each and everyone of the residents and hearing about their lives. I loved the way how Sarah is with little Una and how she helps her uncover her voice. Brilliantly told, was sad to come to the end.

Dream a Little Dream By Giovanna Fletcher

Dream a Little Dream By Giovanna Fletcher

Sarah is doing just fine. Sure she’s been single for the last five years, and has to spend an uncomfortable amount of time around her ex-boyfriend, his perfect new girlfriend and all their mutual friends. And yes, her job as a PA to one of the most disgusting men in London is mind-numbingly tedious and her career is a constant disappointment to her mother. But it’s really okay. She’s happy (ish).

So it’s not surprising that when Sarah starts dreaming about a handsome stranger, she begins to look forward to falling asleep every night. Reality isn’t nearly as exciting. That is until her dream-stranger makes an unexpected real-life appearance, leaving Sarah questioning everything she thought she wanted.

Because no one ever really finds the person of their dreams… do they?

My Thoughts:

I really enjoy Giovanna Fletchers books. There is nothing like forgetting the days troubles and curling up with one of her books. There is a good pace through out and I like how her dreams are written in a different font. This is a very capturing read that you will just not want to put down. I loved it. Lets see if Giovanna can top this one.

No Ordinary Billionaire By J. S. Scott (The Sinclairs Book 1)

No Ordinary Billionaire By J. S. Scott (The Sinclairs Book 1)

Dante Sinclair never cared about his family’s money. All the young billionaire ever wanted was to be a cop; and now that he’s a homicide detective in Los Angeles, he’s a damn good one. But when he is injured and loses his partner in the line of duty, he returns to his vacation home in Amesport, Maine, to recover.

Sarah Baxter, a brilliant young doctor still struggling with her stifled upbringing, has recently moved from Chicago to sleepy Amesport to escape her past, hoping to find peace. When Sarah is assigned to Dante’s case, there’s an instant heat between them. They couldn’t possibly be more different, yet their igniting passion is impossible to ignore. As new feelings awaken within Sarah, her haunted past returns, threatening her once again. But can Dante overcome his grief and discover the secrets Sarah is hiding in time to protect and rescue her?

My Thoughts:

I would suggest reading The billionaire’s Christmas before this book so that you can become familiar with the Sinclair men. This is Dante and Sarah’s story, there is instant chemistry between them both. Dante is the very hot overprotective man whilst Sarah is the very lovely and highly intelligent woman. I loved the way even when everything goes wrong they seem to grow stronger together. I look forward to the next book.

The Ice Twins By S. K. Tremayne

The Ice Twins By S. K. Tremayne

A year after one of their identical twin daughters, Lydia, dies in an accident, Angus and Sarah Moorcraft move to the tiny Scottish island Angus inherited from his grandmother, hoping to put together the pieces of their shattered lives.

But when their surviving daughter, Kirstie, claims they have mistaken her identity – that she, in fact, is Lydia – their world comes crashing down once again.

As winter encroaches, Angus is forced to travel away from the island for work, Sarah is feeling isolated, and Kirstie (or is it Lydia?) is growing more disturbed. When a violent storm leaves Sarah and her daughter stranded, Sarah finds herself tortured by the past – what really happened on that fateful day one of her daughters died?

My Thoughts:

This is a new author to me so after winning this book in a competition I thought I would give it a go. I managed to read it in two days but I didn’t enjoy it as much as I thought I might. I felt the middle part of the story kind of went of course a bit, but the ending was fine. However, I found the writing very descriptive and I liked looking at the photos that are in the book. I did want to finish the book and I am glad I did as I wanted to see what happened in the end. This is a novel I think that will stay with you.

A lesson In Murder By Matthew Costello and Neil Richards.

A lesson In Murder By Matthew Costello and Neil Richards.

When Jack and Sarah are called in to investigate mysterious pranks at an exclusive girls’ private school, it seems at first that it might be the work of a few mean pupils with a grudge. But things quickly turn serious when a popular teacher meets a sudden, violent death. Now, with murder in the air, Jack and Sarah have their own lessons to learn about the Cherringham Girls School, its dark secrets… and who wanted that teacher dead before they learned the truth.

— Cherringham is serial novel à la Charles Dickens, with a new mystery thriller released each month. Set in the sleepy English village of Cherringham, the detective series brings together an unlikely sleuthing duo: English web designer Sarah and American ex-cop Jack. Thrilling and deadly – but with a spot of tea – it’s like Rosamunde Pilcher meets Inspector Barnaby. Each of the self-contained episodes is a quick read for the morning commute, while waiting for the doctor, or when curling up with a hot cuppa.

My Thoughts:

If you love a mystery thriller you will love this book. It kind of reminded me a little bit of Midsummer Murders which is a good thing as I love watching them. The two main characters are called Jack and Sarah who work together, they have to work out the mystery involving a teacher at an all girls school. There are a few twists and turns and you wont believe the ending. Mystery at it’s best I say.
