the teacher

You think you know who to trust? You think you know the difference between good and evil?

You’re wrong …

A LESSON YOU WILL NEVER FORGET

The body of the head teacher of an exclusive Devon school is found hanging from the rafters in the assembly hall.

Hours earlier he’d received a package, and only he could understand the silent message it conveyed. It meant the end.

As Exeter suffers a rising count of gruesome deaths, troubled DS Imogen Grey and DS Adrian Miles must solve the case and make their city safe again.

But as they’re drawn into a network of corruption, lies and exploitation, every step brings them closer to grim secrets hidden at the heart of their community.

And once they learn what’s motivating this killer, will they truly want to stop him?

My Thoughts:

I wasn’t that keen on this book, there are a couple of good things about it as in it is fast paced and there is alot of action but there were some things that weren’t right. I found out very early on why people were getting killed and also who the killer was which let the story down for me. You will discover why the killer did what they did and their story before which I found slightly interesting. This book wasn’t for me but I am sure other people may enjoy it.

Time to Say Goodbye By S. D Robertson

Time to Say Goodbye By S. D Robertson

time to say goodbye

HOW DO YOU LEAVE THE PERSON YOU LOVE THE MOST?

Will Curtis’s six-year-old daughter, Ella, knows her father will never leave her. After all, he promised her so when her mother died. And he’s going to do everything he can to keep his word.

What Will doesn’t know is that the promise he made to his little girl might be harder to keep than he imagined. When he’s faced with an impossible decision, Will finds that the most obvious choice might not be the right one.

But the future is full of unexpected surprises. And father and daughter are about to embark on an unforgettable journey together . . .

My Thoughts:

This book intrigued me as I don’t normally read books with unrealistic plots and even though I am glad I have read it, it wasn’t really for me. It is a very emotional story that I found really hard to read. I found some conversations between Ella and her father Will a bit too complex for her age too. The characters were all good but the story just wasn’t my cup of tea.

Behind Closed Doors By B A Paris

Behind Closed Doors By B A Paris

behind closed doors

Everyone knows a couple like Jack and Grace. He has looks and wealth, she has charm and elegance. You might not want to like them, but you do.
You’d like to get to know Grace better.
But it’s difficult, because you realise Jack and Grace are never apart.
Some might call this true love. Others might ask why Grace never answers the phone. Or how she can never meet for coffee, even though she doesn’t work.

How she can cook such elaborate meals but remain so slim. And why there are bars on one of the bedroom windows.

My Thoughts:

Wow what a book. This is the gripping debut thriller from B A Paris that everyone is talking about. I wanted to see for myself what all the fuss was about and I am glad I did. I didn’t want to leave this book alone let alone put it down. I read in a couple of days, it was brilliant. I love the way each chapter is set in the past and present. I found it eerily good and fascinating. I really didn’t know what was going to happen. I can’t believe it is the author’s first book as it was brilliant. I look forward to more of the author’s books. You never know what happens behind closed doors.

Is Alastair Black her true soulmate, or should Sleeping Beauty lie?

My Thoughts:

I was given this book from the lovely Jan Ruth herself. With this book I would say do not judge a book by it’s cover. I loved it, it had a brilliant beginning, middle and ending. I was sad when it ended. This is my first book by her and I would definitely want to read more of Jan’s books. This is a modern family saga with some clever twist and turns. One not too be missed.

In The Cold Dark Ground By Stuart MacBride

In The Cold Dark Ground By Stuart MacBride

in the cold dark ground

Sergeant Logan McRae is in trouble…

His missing-persons investigation has just turned up a body in the woods – naked, hands tied behind its back, and a bin bag duct-taped over its head. The Major Investigation Team charges up from Aberdeen, under the beady eye of Logan’s ex-boss Detective Chief Inspector Steel. And, as usual, she wants him to do her job for her.

But it’s not going to be easy: a new Superintendent is on her way up from the Serious Organised Crime Task Force, hell-bent on making Logan’s life miserable; Professional Standards are gunning for Steel; and Wee Hamish Mowat, head of Aberdeen’s criminal underbelly, is dying – leaving rival gangs from all over the UK eying his territory.

There’s a war brewing and Logan’s trapped right in the middle, whether he likes it or not.

My Thoughts:

I won this book on a goodreads giveaway. I hadn’t read any of Stuart’s books before so wasn’t sure what to expect. This book had me gripped till the very end. I couldn’t put it down. The plot is brilliant and I wasn’t expecting the laugh out loud moments but it was a pleasant surprise, I will be looking out for more of Stuart’s books in the future.

The Missing By C. L. Taylor

The Missing By C. L. Taylor

the missing

This title will be released on April 7, 2016.

You love your family. They make you feel safe. You trust them.

But should you…?

When fifteen-year-old Billy Wilkinson goes missing in the middle of the night, his mother, Claire, blames herself. She’s not the only one. There isn’t a single member of Billy’s family that doesn’t feel guilty. But the Wilkinson’s are so used to keeping secrets from one another that it isn’t until six months later, after an appeal for information goes horribly wrong, that the truth begins to surface.

Claire is sure of two things – that Billy is still alive and that her friends and family had nothing to do with his disappearance.

A mother’s instinct is never wrong. Or is it?

Sometimes those closest to us are the ones with the most to hide…

My Thoughts:

I received an advanced copy of this book, as I have read Cally’s other books I was looking forward to getting stuck into this one. I enjoyed it but not as much as Cally’s other books. I guessed early on about who knew about more about Billy’s disappearance. I wouldn’t say it ruined it for me as there is more than meets the eye, there were twists and turns which kept me gripped. I liked it, I just didn’t love it as much as I hoped I would.

The Mistake I Made By Paula Daly

The Mistake I Made By Paula Daly

We all think we know who we are.

What we’re capable of.

Roz is a single mother, a physiotherapist, a sister, a friend. She’s also desperate.

Her business has gone under, she’s crippled by debt and she’s just had to explain to her son why someone’s taken all their furniture away.

But now a stranger has made her an offer. For one night with her, he’ll pay enough to bring her back from the edge.

Roz has a choice to make.

My Thoughts:

I managed to win this book in a competition but I wasn’t taken with it as I thought I would be. I felt the story was a bit far fetched and very predictable. I did sympathize with Roz the main character who is finding it hard when she has no money and alot of debt but I am not sure she did choose the best choice, I mean how many people did she hurt in the end. But in a situation like the one she was in, what would you do?

After years of training, horse-mad Flick has finally achieved her dream of becoming one of the few female blacksmiths in the country.

Her first job is in Talyton St George. The little cottage on the green where she is staying is idyllic, and it feels like the fresh start she needs. But she soon finds she is having to work overtime to prove her abilities to the not-so-welcoming locals.

One person very much on her side though is Robbie Salterton. He’s a bit of a local celebrity – a handsome stunt rider who does charity work in his spare time – and he seems to be going out of his way to look out for Flick. But is he just being friendly or does he see Flick as something more?

Despite swearing off men, Flick can’t help wanting to find out . . .

My Thoughts:

I was lucky enough to get an advanced copy of this book from Cathy. I am a big fan of Cathy’s book I have all of her books on my bookshelf. Reading one of Cathy’s books feels like someone giving you a great big warm hug. What is not to love about a story involving horses, a hot guy and a love story. I really liked reading about Flick the main characters job as a farrier as it was interesting to learn all about horses shoes. I really liked this story alot and I wonder if there will be a sequel to it. I think everyone should read this book whether you like horses or not. It is just brilliant, so brilliant I managed to read it in two days.

1939, and Will and Alice are evacuated to a granite farm in north Cornwall, perched on a windswept cliff. There they meet the farmer’s daughter, Maggie, and against fields of shimmering barley and a sky that stretches forever, enjoy a childhood largely protected from the ravages of war.

2014, and Maggie’s granddaughter Lucy flees to the childhood home she couldn’t wait to leave thirteen years earlier, marriage over; career apparently ended thanks to one terrible mistake. Can she rebuild herself and the family farm? And can she help her grandmother, plagued by a secret, to find some lasting peace?

My Thoughts:

I feel very grateful to Sarah for sending me an advanced copy of her new book. After reading Sarah’s previous book the art of baking blind, I couldn’t wait to see what was in store for her next book. I couldn’t wait to get stuck in and I literally enjoyed every single minute that I was reading this book. I loved the story and the fact that it is set on a farm well that is my ideal setting. I am a big fan of animals and I use to work on a farm so the story brought back all my memories which was nice. The story goes from past to present which sometimes can become confusing but I didn’t find it at all. I enjoyed reading about 1943 and the way certain things were. An emotional story but you will be able to see light at the end of the tunnel. This is a book you do not want to miss out on reading.

The Swimming Pool By Louise Candlish

louise candlish

This title will be released on May 5, 2016.

In the heady swelter of a London summer, the Elm Hill lido opens.

For teacher Natalie Steele, the school holiday typically means weeks of carefully planned activities with her husband Ed and their daughter Molly. But not this year.

Despite Molly’s extreme phobia of the water, Natalie is drawn to the lido and its dazzling social scene, led by the glamorous Lara Channing. Soon Natalie is spending long, intoxicating days with Lara at the pool – and intimate evenings at her home. Natalie’s real life begins to feel very far away.

But is the new friendship everything it seems? Why is Natalie haunted by memories from another summer years ago? And, without realising, has she been swept dangerously out of her depth?

My Thoughts:

I was lucky enough to get an advanced copy of this book from lovereading so want to say thank you for them for sending me a copy. I have always loved Louise Candlish books, this one didn’t disappoint either. The first book I got to review was by Louise Candlish and I have not looked back since. Louise has a brilliant way that just draws you into her characters worlds, her writing is exceptional. There are twists and turns that will leave you thinking oh my god did that just happen, you think you may know what is going to happen but trust me you don’t. An outstanding book you will want to get your hands on.
