The Imposter By Anna Wharton

The Imposter By Anna Wharton

The lives of others have always fascinated newspaper archivist Chloe. And when she comes across a cutting of a little girl who went missing twenty-five years ago, she is moved by the unwavering devotion of the child’s parents and their belief that their daughter will one day return.

Meanwhile, news that her beloved Nan, the only family she has left, must move into a nursing home, leaves Chloe distraught and soon to be homeless. So when the missing girl’s parents advertise for a lodger, Chloe sees this as a sign – a new home and the perfect opportunity to investigate the case. But it’s not long until she realises the couple aren’t all they seem from the outside . . .

With everyone in the house hiding something, the question is – whose secrets are the most dangerous?

My Thoughts:

When a book makes your skin crawl and you hold your breath you know it is going to be a good one. I loved the sound of this thriller and couldn’t wait to start reading it. This story is about Chloe and how as she is working her job as a journalist she uncovers a story from back in the past about a little girl going missing and that the police could never find out what happened to her. Chloe decides to investigate into it. Chloe also has her nan that has Alzheimer so we see her heartbreaking decline and I really did feel for Chloe as it is very sad to see when a person has this very cruel disease. On the hunt for clues to find the missing girl Chloe unearths alot more than she could ever imagine and manages to wind her way into the lives of the missing girls parents. Who is telling the truth and who is lying? Will there be skeletons in the Chloe’s closet too? It was a unique story, one I have never read before with such anticipation as I never truly knew what would become whilst turning the page. Your in for a real treat with this debut novel. Will be looking out for this author again.

One? By Jennifer L. Cahill

One? By Jennifer L. Cahill

It’s London in the mid-noughties before Facebook, iPhones and ubiquitous wifi.
Zara has just moved to London for her first real job and struggles to find her feet in a big city with no instruction manual. Penelope works night and day in an investment bank with little or no time for love. At twenty-eight she is positively ancient as far as her mother is concerned and the pressure is on for her to settle down as the big 3-0 is looming. Charlie spends night and day with his band who are constantly teetering on the verge of greatness.

Richard has relocated to London from his castle in Scotland in search of the one, and Alyx is barely in one place long enough to hold down a relationship let alone think about the future. One? follows the highs and lows of a group of twenty-somethings living in leafy SW4.

My Thoughts:

This is a great pick me up read, there are a great bunch of characters who are believable. I found it a fun and easy read that is about love and friendship before the internet came along, I liked how the story came together and seeing how people cope with change and new insights. This is a really good first debut and I look forward to the next book.

Jess isn’t have a great time lately. She has the most boring job in her company, her boss tries to place blame on her every chance he gets, and she’s just had to sack one of her best friends. As for the men in her life, they all seem to be morons, cavemen or serial womanisers. Then she meets Steven. Mature, handsome and ever so enticing, Jess starts to think he might be the solution to a lot of her problems. The only issue is he’s younger. MUCH younger.

My Thoughts:

If you want a really funny book then I would suggest this one, you will laugh out loud and the story line is just brilliant, all the characters are ones that you feel as though you know. I couldn’t believe this was a debut novel as it is really good. I will looking out for more of this author’s books in the future.

Imagine a world where…

Everything you ate was monitored by the government.
Every step you took was counted.
Your children were weighed every day at school.
Neighbours reported on neighbours and no one was safe from judgement.
Sugar was illegal, and baking was a crime.

Imagine if that world was here… What would you do?

Toe the line or fight for your freedom…

My Thoughts:

This was an interesting topic to read about, it made me think about the alternative life without sugar and could I possibly do it? I think the author has nailed the female characters as when reading you feel something for them and want their problems to go away. All the time I was reading this book I just wanted to bake or eat something with lots of sugar in it. A fantastic debut novel.

Through The Wall By Caroline Corcoran

Lexie’s got the perfect life. And someone else wants it…

Lexie loves her home. She feels safe and secure in it – and loved, thanks to her boyfriend Tom.

But recently, something’s not been quite right. A book out of place. A wardrobe door left open. A set of keys going missing…

Tom thinks Lexie’s going mad – but then, he’s away more often than he’s at home nowadays, so he wouldn’t understand.

Because Lexie isn’t losing it. She knows there’s someone out there watching her. And, deep down, she knows there’s nothing she can do to make them stop…

My Thoughts:

I love a creepy read, one that makes you feel shivery. You can’t wait to see what happens next. This story is about two neighbours Lexie and Harriet, they have never met but feel as though they know each other until now. Each chapter alternates between the two women so we find out their story aswell as what they think of each other.  I found the storyline very unique and think Caroline the author has done a brilliant job as this was her debut novel.

Under The Ice By Rachael Blok

Under The Ice By Rachael Blok

under the ice.jpg

It is the week before Christmas and the cathedral city of St Albans is blanketed by snow. But beneath the festive lights, darkness is stirring. The frozen body of a young girl is discovered by the ice-covered lake.

The police scramble for clues. A local woman, Jenny, has had visions of what happened the night of the murder. But Jenny is an exhausted new mother, whose midnight wanderings pull her ever closer to the lake. Can Jenny be trusted? What does she really know?

Then another girl goes missing, and the community unravels. Neighbour turns against neighbour, and Jenny has no idea who to believe. As Christmas Eve approaches, Jenny discovers a secret about her past – and why she could be key to everything…

My Thoughts:

I love the cover of this book it is tense and creepy but also makes you feel slightly cold. I was shocked to see that it is Rachael’s debut novel as it is really good. This is what thrillers are all about, you want to devour it straight away but then you want to cherish the story as you know you will feel sad once it has finished. The story telling was exceptional so much so that the characters are really bought to life. I can’t wait to read the next one from Rachael Blok.

This title will be released on June 28, 2018.

In an idyllic house in a Swedish wood, Merry and her husband are building their new dream life with their young baby, far away from events that overshadowed their old life in New York. And they’re happy, aren’t they? Blissfully, blissfully happy.

When Merry’s childhood friend Frances comes to stay, Frances barely recognises her old friend Merry, pureeing baby food, baking, living the Swedish dream. But little by little, cracks begin to show in her carefully constructed fairy tale. And Frances starts to see things others might miss. Dark and treacherous things.

And then a terrible tragedy unfolds…

My Thoughts:

A couple that move to Sweden would have the perfect life there in the countryside wouldn’t they? This is a debut novel that in each chapter is a different person to this dark and twisted story, we watch it unfold with bated breath. I found the story riveting and gripping, one that you wont forget in a while.
