Your children were weighed every day at school.
Neighbours reported on neighbours and no one was safe from judgement.
Sugar was illegal, and baking was a crime.

My Thoughts:
This was an interesting topic to read about, it made me think about the alternative life without sugar and could I possibly do it? I think the author has nailed the female characters as when reading you feel something for them and want their problems to go away. All the time I was reading this book I just wanted to bake or eat something with lots of sugar in it. A fantastic debut novel.
