Christmas Secrets in Snowflake Cove: Volume 1 (Michaelmas Bay) By Emily Harvale

emily

Christmas is a time for family and friends, miracles and magic, falling snow and roaring fires, fun, laughter and festive feasts. In Snowflake Cove, it’s also a time for secrets to be revealed… Evie Starr is hoping for more than a sprinkling of magic this Christmas.

The family-run Snowflake Inn is virtually empty and the Starr’s financial future isn’t looking bright. But Evie’s gran, Jessie has a secret that might help. Enigmatic, Zachary Thorn is every woman’s dream. He’s also ex-SAS, so his secrets are classified. The Christmas Special of his feel-good, TV show is set in Michaelmas Bay – until a phone call means he’s spending Christmas in nearby Snowflake Cove.

Evie’s best friend, Juniper thinks boyfriend Darren has a secret. Evie knows he does. And Evie’s niece, Raven is hiding feelings for Juniper’s brother – who has a secret crush of his own. But the biggest secret in Snowflake Cove is the identity of Raven’s dad.

With snow falling thick and fast and secrets being revealed one after another, will everyone be snuggling up by the fire on Christmas Eve, or are some secrets best kept hidden…?

My Thoughts:

If you haven’t read one of Emily’s books before why not? They are utterly brilliant. They have romance, friends, family and hot guys, what’s more great is this one is set around Christmas. I loved getting to know the characters and I liked the sound of Zach quite a lot. A brilliant Christmas read that will get you in the Christmas spirit.

When the love of your life says you’re not The One, who are you?

Lizzy and Ian have been a couple since the first week of university. Now, after celebrating a decade together, everyone thinks they’re about to get engaged.

Instead, a romantic escape to Dubai leaves Lizzy with no ring, no fiancé and no future.

Lizzy is heartbroken – but through the tears, she sees an opportunity. This is her moment to discover what she’s been missing while playing Ian’s ideal ‘better half’.

But how much has Ian changed her, and who should she be without him?

Determined to discover who she is at heart, Lizzy sets out to rediscover the girl she was before – and, in the meantime, have a little fun . . .

My Thoughts:

Another brilliant read from Giovanna. I really admire her as she is a hard working mum to two young boys and she still manages to pull a right cracker of a book out of the bag. If your after a heart warming story with loveable characters this is the book for you. I really hope we can catch up with Lizzie in a sequel hopefully.

Don’t Wake Up By Liz Lawler

Don’t Wake Up By Liz Lawler

dont wake up
Alex Taylor wakes up tied to an operating table. The man who stands over her isn’t a doctor.

The choice he forces her to make is utterly unspeakable.

But when Alex re-awakens, she’s unharmed – and no one believes her horrifying story. Ostracised by her colleagues, her family and her partner, she begins to wonder if she really is losing her mind.

And then she meets the next victim.

My Thoughts:

Just reading the back of this book sent shivers down my back. I have had many operations before and assumed it was something to do with Alex waking up in the middle of a operation but it is so much more than that. So much is packed into this incredible story, I wanted to find out who the doctor was but wasn’t sure if I did as it would mean the end of the story. A story that will really pull you in.

To the Edge of the Sky By Anhua Gao

To the Edge of the Sky By Anhua Gao

sky

Anhua Gao’s parents were hailed as revolutionary heroes. In her early years she knew love and support and grew up in a privileged world.

But when they both tragically died, all she was left with was her parent’s fading reputation to guide her through the horrors of 20th century China.

This is the story of how Anhua first struggled with and then against the ideological machine of Red China. It is a story of pain and horror, turmoil and tragedy.

But most of all it is the story of a woman who found courage, hope and humour and who, against unbelievable odds, survived.

My Thoughts:

This is such a moving story that I could not wait to delve deeper into Anhua’s story. There are highs and lows, tears and laughter in this beautifully descriptive book. To find out what really happened in China in the 20 Th Century and how it affected Anhua is incredible. A really touching read.

The Perfect Victim By Corrie Jackson

perfect victim

Charlie and Emily Swift are the Instagram-perfect couple: gorgeous, successful and in love. But then Charlie is named as the prime suspect in a gruesome murder and Emily’s world falls apart.

Desperate for answers, she turns to Charlie’s troubled best friend, London Herald journalist, Sophie Kent. Sophie knows police have the wrong man – she trusts Charlie with her life.

Then Charlie flees.

Sophie puts her reputation on the line to clear his name. But as she’s drawn deeper into Charlie and Emily’s unravelling marriage, she realises that there is nothing perfect about the Swifts.

As she begins to question Charlie’s innocence, something happens that blows the investigation – and their friendship – apart.

Now Sophie isn’t just fighting for justice, she’s fighting for her life.

My Thoughts:

Corrie is a new author for me. I liked that there are many twists and turns in this whodunit and you feel as though you may know and then you get taken away from that person. I wanted to find out the ending but I was not excited for it. I didn’t feel as though the writing gripped me enough.

The Fragile Thread of Hope By Pankaj Giri

The Fragile Thread of Hope By Pankaj Giri

pankaj

In the autumn of 2012, destiny wreaks havoc on two unsuspecting people—Soham and Fiona.

Although his devastating past involving his brother still haunted him, Soham had established a promising career for himself in Bangalore.

After a difficult childhood, Fiona’s fortunes had finally taken a turn for the better. She had married her beloved, and her life was as perfect as she had ever imagined it to be.

But when tragedy strikes them yet again, their fundamentally fragile lives threaten to fall apart.

Can Fiona and Soham overcome their grief?

Will the overwhelming pain destroy their lives?

My Thoughts:

This is a incredible story of loss, love, grief, loneliness and hope. The emotions in this story are powerful and the characters are written well that I felt deeply saddened by their stories. The story is written from two main view points and you can’t imagine what they have to go through. This novel really affected me and I know it will always stay with me.

Lie With Me By Sabine Durrant

Lie With Me By Sabine Durrant

lie with me

A few little lies never hurt anyone. Right?

Wrong.

Paul has a plan. He has a vision of a better future, and he’s going to make it happen.

If it means hiding or exaggerating a few things here and there, no harm done.

But when he charms his way on to a family holiday…
And finds himself trapped among tensions and emotions he doesn’t understand…
By the time he starts to realise that however painful the truth is, it’s the lies that cause the real damage…

Well, by then, it might just be too late.

My Thoughts:

I was not sure about this story when I first picked it up, I found Paul a bit creepy and also Andrew too. But once the story unfolded it was brilliant. I kind of guessed the ending halfway through but it still was like I can’t believe it. A gripping read.

She Loves Me
A woman’s body lies in the road. At first it looks like a tragic accident. But when Helen Grace arrives on the scene it’s clear she’s looking at a coldblooded killing. But why would anyone target a much-loved wife and mother?

She Loves Me Not
Across town, a shopkeeper is killed while his customers are left unharmed. But what lies behind the killer’s choices?

She Loves Me
Who lives? Who dies? Who’s next? The clock is ticking.

She Loves Me Not
If Helen can’t solve this deadly puzzle then more blood will be shed. But any mistake and it might be her own …

My Thoughts:

I have read the first couple of these books but have not read the books in between. You can read it as a standalone but to get to know DI Helen Grace in more depth I would suggest that you read all of the previous books. I found this book utterly compelling, the bad thing well not really bad but the chapters are so short you think just one more chapter and then because the story is so engrossing you just have to read on. I will definitely be following up with the previous books to see what I have missed out on.
