Guilt By Amanda Robson

Guilt By Amanda Robson

guilt

Your sister. Her secret. The betrayal.

There is no bond greater than blood . . .

When the body of a woman is found stabbed to death, the blame falls to her twin sister. But who killed who? And which one is now the woman behind bars?

Zara and Miranda have always supported each other. But then Zara meets Seb, and everything changes. Handsome, charismatic and dangerous, Seb threatens to tear the sisters’ lives apart – but is he really the one to blame? Or are deeper resentments simmering beneath the surface that the sisters must face up to?

As the sisters’ relationship is stretched to the brink, a traumatic incident in Seb’s past begins to rear its head and soon all three are locked in a psychological battle that will leave someone dead. The question is, who?

My Thoughts:

If you like a fast paced thriller this is the one for you. I found I couldn’t put it down and was thinking about it even when I was not reading it. Each chapter comes from a different person’s perspective and it flits from past to present, I like the fact that some of the chapters are small as it makes you want to read on just for a little bit longer. I will definitely be reading more of Amanda’s books in the future. This one was a brilliant thriller.

My Thoughts:

After reading Watching Edie which is another of Camilla’s books I was really looking forward to this one. It does not disappoint, it is a psychological thriller that will keep you hooked straight away. There are two storylines that run along each other and are expertly woven together. It is dark and the plot takes twists and turns like you wouldn’t believe but I absolutely loved it.

And will either survive the chilling truth – that there are far worse things you can lose than your house?

TILL DEATH US DO PART.

My Thoughts:

I have enjoyed all of Louise’s books so far and I loved how this story was bought together by two points of view. I think the plot line is different but it really works. There is a twist at the end which made it complete. I liked the way that places near to where I live where mentioned it makes me feel part of the story. I did find it a little confusing at times but in the end a good read.

The Day Of The Accident By Nuala Ellwood

The Day Of The Accident By Nuala Ellwood

This title will be released on September 6, 2018.

They say you killed…BUT WHAT IF THEY’RE WRONG?

Sixty seconds after she wakes from a coma, Maggie’s world is torn apart

The police tell her that her daughter Elspeth is dead. That she drowned when the car Maggie had been driving plunged into the river. Maggie remembers nothing.

When Maggie begs to see her husband Sean, the police tell her that he has disappeared. He was last seen on the day of her daughter’s funeral.

What really happened that day at the river?
Where is Maggie’s husband?
And why can’t she shake the suspicion that somewhere, somehow, her daughter is still alive?

My Thoughts:

If you like dark and twisty thrillers this is the one for you, it is fast paced but with a really good plot line. I found it really intriguing and unsettling in a sense and felt as though I couldn’t put it down. I loved Nuala’s style of writing and the letters inbetween broke up the story a bit. A new author to me this year and I will be looking out for her books in the future.

A Family Recipe By Veronica Henry

A Family Recipe By Veronica Henry

Veronica

This title will be released on May 17, 2018.

What’s the secret ingredient to your happiness?

Laura Griffin is preparing for an empty nest. The thought of Number 11 Lark Hill falling silent – a home usually bustling with noise, people and the fragrant smells of something cooking on the Aga – seems impossible. Laura hopes it will mean more time for herself, and more time with her husband, Dom.

But when an exposed secret shakes their marriage, Laura suddenly feels as though her family is shrinking around her. Feeling lost, she turns to her greatest comfort: her grandmother’s recipe box, a treasured collection dating back to the Second World War. Everyone has always adored Laura’s jams and chutneys, piled their sandwiches high with her pickles . . . Inspired by a bit of the old Blitz spirit, Laura has an idea that gives her a fresh sense of purpose.

Full of fierce determination, Laura starts carving her own path. But even the bravest woman needs the people who love her. And now, they need her in return . . .

My Thoughts:

I am a big fan of Veronica’s books and I absolutely loved this one. Veronica always has one character that you feel you can relate to. I loved Laura from the start, her kids have left home, she is not sure what to do but then when a secret rocks her marriage, she decides to start making her grandmother’s jams and chutney’s. I love how the story unfolds and how her grandmothers recipe box helps her and her daughter. The sound of some of those jams and chutney’s sound absolutely divine. A great summer read.

The Craftsman By Sharon Bolton

The Craftsman By Sharon Bolton

sharon bolton

Out on 3rd May 2018

Devoted father or merciless killer?

His secrets are buried with him.

Florence Lovelady’s career was made when she convicted coffin-maker Larry Glassbrook of a series of child murders 30 years ago. Like something from our worst nightmares the victims were buried…ALIVE.

Larry confessed to the crimes; it was an open and shut case. But now he’s dead, and events from the past start to repeat themselves.

Did she get it wrong all those years ago?
Or is there something much darker at play?

My Thoughts:

I had never read any of Sharon Bolton’s books before this one, I just didn’t think I would enjoy a bone chilling crime book but I really did. It made a bit of a change from my usual genre’s and I am definitely going to look out for more of her books. I have to admit it is a creepy read and I wouldn’t recommend reading before bed but there is tension, mystery and red herrings along the way that you will not want to put this book down till the very end. Brilliantly written in a way that it slightly leaves you on edge.

Nineteen Letters By Jodi Perry

Nineteen Letters By Jodi Perry

jodi

The 19th of January, 1996 . . . I’ll never forget it. It was the day we met. I was seven and she was six. It was the day she moved in next door, and the same day I developed my first crush on a girl.

Then tragedy struck. Nineteen days after our wedding day, Jemma was in an accident that would change our lives forever. When she woke from her coma, she had no memory of me, of us, of the love we shared.

That’s when I started writing her letters. The stories of our life. Of when we met. About the happier times, and everything we’d experienced together.

What we had was far too beautiful to be forgotten.

My Thoughts:

Wow what a breath taking book, the story is a believable one, Jemma is involved in a accident and when she awakes from a coma she cannot remember who anyone is especially who her husband is. It takes them time and Braz helps her to see what kind of life they had by writing her letters of poignant times in their lives. It was an emotional read but he was a brilliant husband to her and stood by her through thick and thin. Brax reminded me of my husband as he has been there for me when I have been going through major health issues and I am very grateful for that. A lovely story that shows support and how when life is tough it is good to have your best friend by your side.

Smash all the Windows By Jane Davis

Smash all the Windows By Jane Davis

jane davis

It has taken conviction to right the wrongs.

It will take courage to learn how to live again.

For the families of the victims of the St Botolph and Old Billingsgate disaster, the undoing of a miscarriage of justice should be a cause for rejoicing. For more than thirteen years, the search for truth has eaten up everything. Marriages, families, health, careers and finances.

Finally, the coroner has ruled that the crowd did not contribute to their own deaths. Finally, now that lies have been unravelled and hypocrisies exposed, they can all get back to their lives.

If only it were that simple.

My Thoughts:

A captivating read that will have you thinking about life and life in general. The writing is descriptive and to the point. It was a really interesting read and what happened to the people who it was affected by. Well worth a read.

Skin Deep By Liz Nugent

Skin Deep By Liz Nugent

‘I could probably have been an actress.
It is not difficult to pretend to be somebody else.
Isn’t that what I’ve been doing for most of my life?’

Cordelia Russell has been living on the French Riviera for twenty-five years, passing herself off as an English socialite. But her luck, and the kindness of strangers, have run out.

The arrival of a visitor from her distant past shocks Cordelia. She reacts violently to the intrusion and flees her flat to spend a drunken night at a glittering party. As dawn breaks she stumbles home through the back streets. Even before she opens her door she can hear the flies buzzing. She did not expect the corpse inside to start decomposing quite so quickly . . .

My Thoughts:

Having not read any of Liz’s books before I was intrigued to give this one a go. I liked the style of writing and how the book starts from the present then goes back to when the main character Cordelia is a little girl. There is a unexpected twist at the end that I did not see coming. It was a well detailed story with lots of interesting characters along the way.

Hetty’s Farmhouse Bakery By Cathy Bramley

Hetty’s Farmhouse Bakery By Cathy Bramley

cathy bramley

Thirty-two-year-old Hetty Greengrass is the star around which the rest of her family orbits. Marriage, motherhood and helping Dan run Sunnybank Farm have certainly kept her hands full for the last twelve years. But when her daughter Poppy has to choose her inspiration for a school project and picks her aunt, not her mum, Hetty is left full of self-doubt.

Hetty’s always been generous with her time and until now, her biggest talent – baking deliciously moreish shortcrust pastry pies – has been limited to charity work and the village fete. But taking part in a competition run by Cumbria’s Finest to find the very best produce from the region might be just the thing to make her daughter proud . . . and reclaim something for herself.

Except that life isn’t as simple as producing the perfect pie. Changing the status quo isn’t easy – and with cracks appearing in her marriage and shocking secrets coming to light, Hetty must decide where her priorities really lie . . .

My Thoughts:

I couldn’t wait to get snuggled up to read this book, the cover looks so inviting. Cathy Bramley is one of my favourite authors and this book was just brilliant. It centres around Hetty who is a farmers wife but wants to do something just for herself and to make her daughter Poppy proud. There are highs for Hetty and then there is some lows. The pies she makes sound absolutely wonderful so I shouldn’t read this book on an empty stomach. I loved all the characters and felt as though I was being swept away into their lives with them. This book by Cathy was delightful and delicious.
