All My Lies By Sophie Flynn

All My Lies By Sophie Flynn

Anna wants to escape.
She doesn’t know when her marriage to James began to feel like a trap or when he became so controlling. All she knows is that she needs to leave before it’s too late.

And she has a plan.
When Anna reconnects with her childhood sweetheart, Sam, she sees it as the answer to her problems. Finally, they’ll have a life together, like they’d always planned – the life she was meant to have.

But the lies are catching up with her . . .

On the morning of their escape, Sam goes missing. Anna knows he wouldn’t leave her, that something must have happened to him.
Her search for answers will force her to confront her past, something that she has been running from for a very long time . . .

My Thoughts:

I thought I had read some pretty good debut novels but this one has topped the post on all of them. This is how a psychological should be done, powerful characters and webs of lies, secrets and betrayals make for a outstanding thriller of a read. I didn’t know how this story was going to be played out with all the twists and turns but it did and it blew my mind. Even though the main character for me was Anna, I felt as though there was two stories running alongside each other, the one with Anna’s husband James and also her childhood sweetheart Sam, they come together in an explosive climax that will have you on the edge of your seat. I am really looking forward to what Sophie writes next as I feel this book is going to be a big hit.

The Cornish Cream Tea Summer By Cressida McLaughlin

The Cornish Cream Tea Summer By Cressida McLaughlin

Charlie has a new helper on her bus, her free-spirited and loveable cousin, Delilah, who’s paid a visit to the charming Cornish village of Porthgolow and is helping out on Charlie’s adorable cream tea bus.
When the director of a new TV series filming further along the coast tells Delilah that the bus would be the perfect addition to their onsite catering, she takes him a bit too literally.

Charlie and Delilah find themselves caught up in the filming of a lavish period drama and it isn’t long before Delilah finds herself drawn to the handsome male lead.
But Delilah has made a habit of making rash decisions and it’s one of the reasons she’s hiding out in Cornwall. Could this be one impulsive step too far, or is a change of direction the start of something quite unexpected…

My Thoughts:

We are back in Cornwall in a little village called Porthgolow, where Charlie is in her element serving cream teas in her late Uncle Hal’s bus, business is good and all is going well. Charlie’s cousin Delilah turns up unexpectantly, but why is she here? the last time her and Charlie were together things didn’t go to well. Delilah gets a chance to make things right with Charlie and helps her serve customers on the cream tea bus and also helps her get a spot working on a film set. It all happens fairly quickly and will love blossom between Delilah and a dashing man who is also the male lead. Will her secret finally come out as to why she is here in Cornwall? I read the first book in the series and enjoyed it, this one was good too, I liked the fact because I had read the first book I knew some of the characters and their background. There is a great bunch of characters that make this book come to life but also the descriptions of where they are in Cornwall, it so makes me want to go there and experience it for myself. I look forward to seeing what happens in the next installment.

When I Was Ten By Fiona Cummins

When I Was Ten By Fiona Cummins

Twenty-one years ago, Dr Richard Carter and his wife Pamela were murdered in what has become the most infamous double murder of the modern age.

Ten-year-old Sara Carter – nicknamed the Angel of Death – spent eight years in a children’s secure unit and is living quietly under an assumed name with a family of her own.

Now, on the anniversary of the trial, a documentary team has tracked down her older sister Shannon Carter, compelling her to break two decades of silence.

Her explosive interview sparks national headlines and journalist Brinley Booth, a childhood friend of the Carter sisters, is tasked with covering the news story.

For the first time, the three women are forced to confront what really happened on that blood-soaked night – with devastating consequences for them all.

My Thoughts:

A story to make your skin crawl, this is the story of the Carter family Dr and Mrs Carter and their two daughters. The story flits from past to the present and we unravel the story that has been made a major headline in all the newspapers. The way the story is set out just makes you want to devour it quickly but I wanted to take my time and piece it all together myself. When the story from the past reveals itself I was shocked and had a few tears in my eyes. It also made me angry at the parents, at the time the girls had a best friend Brinley who is now a journalist and what she tells made my skin crawl. A very creepy read. But one I enjoyed very much.

The Diary of a nagging wife By Dona Mensah

The Diary of a nagging wife By Dona Mensah

A hilarious story of the ups and downs of a overtired and overworked mother, two needy children and an overbearing husband the perfect laugh-out-loud story.

My Thoughts:

I liked how this story is so relatable and it is a nice short read that is something a little different. It is an amusing story of a mum who has two kids and a husband, but she is always on the go and the kids let alone the husband don’t help her whatsoever. Parts were funny but I did feel a little sad for her, it was nice to see her journey throughout the story. The only thing I would say is that it does jump around a little too much for me, one minute they are having drinks and the next she is at the kitchen table with her husband, there is no break. But I did enjoy reading it and am interested in seeing what Donna the author writes about next time.

How I have helped people during Lockdown

How I have helped people during Lockdown

So I thought I would do a little blog post on how I have been helping people during UK Lockdown, The libraries and shops were shut but they have since recently reopened but I have been doing giveaways and competitions on my twitter page so people can win books and other book related items. I do giveaways every month, I only post to the UK. If you want to follow me on twitter, be my guest I am @bookbloghannah on there.

Also what Lockdown taught me when your in your house 24/7 is to have a good sort out of everything. I have for the last few weeks been putting out all kinds of stuff outside my house for other people to have. If I am not going to use it why keep it, when it could do someone else a turn. I loved sorting out my bookshelves and letting other people read the books I have loved, especially when I can chat to them about it.

The books have been a great talking point with neighbours and also other people. I love to chat books. I have also been recommending books to people too. I have had people say to me thank you for doing this as they haven’t been able to go to the library and they can’t afford to buy the books so it has been a really big help to some people.

By the way I had lots more books that this that I put out but I forgot to get pictures. I put them out over a space of three weeks and everything has gone apart from a bag of books that I have saved for someone.

I have enjoyed doing this, and I feel as though it has helped people out and also helped myself as I have now got room for lots more books.

I hope you enjoyed reading this post.

The Therapist By B. A. Paris

The Therapist By B. A. Paris

When Alice and Leo move into a newly renovated house in The

Circle, a gated community of exclusive houses, it is everything they’ve dreamed of. But appearances can be deceptive…

As Alice is getting to know her neighbours, she discovers a devastating, grisly secret about her new home, and begins to feel a strong connection with Nina, the therapist who lived there before.

Alice becomes obsessed with trying to piece together what happened two years before. But no one wants to talk about it. Her neighbours are keeping secrets and things are not as perfect as they seem…

My Thoughts:

I love a B. A. Paris book, you always get the right amount of intensity and paranoia. It is a very well written tale with tension on each page, it keeps you guessing till the very end. You never really know what is going to happen. I was expecting something, then something entirely different happened that shocked me. I had to read this book in a day as I just wanted to find out how it was going to end. A very good twisty psychological thriller.

The Girl on the Platform By Bryony Pearce

The Girl on the Platform By Bryony Pearce

‘The train doesn’t slow. We aren’t stopping. We are going to burn past, leaving her behind in a swirl of leaves and dust. I blink. And then men are there, two of them. They lift the squirming girl to her feet, haul her towards the van… and then we are past.’

I am the girl on the platform.
When new mother Bridget catches her train home from London, she witnesses something terrible: a young girl is taken from the platform, right before her eyes.
No one knows where I am.
But no one is reported missing and with Bridget the only witness, she is written off as an attention seeker. Nobody believes her – not even her own husband.
Can you find me?
But Bridget knows what she saw, and becomes consumed with finding the little girl. Only she can save the child’s life… but could delving into the mystery cost Bridget her own?

My Thoughts:

This is a great read if you like something dark and intense. Bridget witnesses a child being kidnapped on her way home, no one else sees it happening or do they? Bridget knows what she saw but why wont anyone believe her? so she goes on a quest to find out who the little was and why she was taken from the platform. We also delve more into Bridget’s background which unearths some very interesting things. I feel as though we really get into Bridget’s head on how she is feeling and what she is really thinking. I really enjoyed this read and I reckon it would be great if it was made into a film.

Extroverted, brash, unsettling single mother-to-be Rachel, who just wants to be Helen’s friend. Who just wants to get know Helen and her friends and her family. Who just wants to know everything about them. Every little secret.

My Thoughts:

I found this a very dark read, you never know what is around the corner. It is full of twists and the characters are all believable, but what really happened to Rachel, I feel as though this book is going to be a huge hit. A psychological thriller at it’s best. The ending was sublime.

The Summer Job By Lizzy Dent

The Summer Job By Lizzy Dent

Have you ever imagined running away from your life?

Well Birdy Finch didn’t just imagine it. She did it. Which might’ve been an error. And the life she’s run into? Her best friend, Heather’s.

The only problem is, she hasn’t told Heather. Actually there are a few other problems…

Can Birdy carry off a summer at a luxury Scottish hotel pretending to be her best friend (who incidentally is a world-class wine expert)?

And can she stop herself from falling for the first man she’s ever actually liked (but who thinks she’s someone else)

My Thoughts:

I really enjoyed this fresh and fun read. I loved Birdy from the get go and she seemed an easy person to get on with. It is a very funny and witty read that is so relatable, I love how engaged I felt throughout reading this book. There is lots of delicious food to salivate over and men too. You won’t stop laughing out loud, this is what everyone needs at the moment some light hearted entertainment. I am already looking forward to Lizzy’s next book with great anticipation.

The Circling Sky By Neil Ansell

The Circling Sky By Neil Ansell

In the form of several journeys, beginning in January 2019, Neil Ansell returns for solitary walks to the New Forest in Hampshire, close to where he was born. With beautiful sightings and observations of birds, trees, butterflies, insects and landscape, this is also a reflective memoir on childhood, on the history of one of the most ancient and important natural habitats in the United Kingdom, and on the Gypsies who lived there for centuries – and were subsequently expelled to neighbouring cities. It is also part polemic on our collective and individual responsibility for the land and world in which we live, and how we care for it.

My Thoughts:

What a delightful read, and the cover of this book is simply stunning. Neil Ansell is an award winning television journalist with the BBC and a long standing newspaper journalist. He has written a couple of other books that I want to read next. This book is all about his walks to the New Forest. The New Forest has a special place in my heart as I use to go there alot when I was younger. I love driving through the New Forest too as you get to see all different wildlife. It made me feel calm when reading this book, hearing about all the different wildlife and birds and also the landscape gave me a fresh perspective on what you might be able to see if you go there. Neil is a great naturalist who is inquisitive and sensible and describes such a precious place in such great detail, one could almost imagine walking in his footsteps. I look forward to reading more of Neil’s books in the future.
