An Island Christmas (Mure) By Jenny Colgan

An Island Christmas (Mure) By Jenny Colgan

jenny colgan island

It’s a time for hunkering down, getting cosy in front of whisky barrel wood fires, and enjoying a dram with the people you love – unless, of course, you’re accidentally pregnant to your ex-boss, and don’t know how to tell him.

In what should be the season of peace and goodwill on earth, will Joel think Flora is a bearer of glad tidings?

Meanwhile Saif, the doctor and refugee from war-torn Syria is trying to enjoy his first western Christmas with his sons – but without his missing wife. Can the little family possibly find comfort and joy?

My Thoughts:

This is book 4 in the series and I strongly suggest that you read the other three before this as you can get to know all the characters and there are lots of them and their stories first. I couldn’t wait to escape back to the Island of Mure where this book is set. This is a heart warming, sensitive and romantic story that will leave you feeling all warm and cosy in side. Jenny’s books just keep getting better and better and there could potentially be another one in this series.

A Boy Without Hope By Casey Watson

A Boy Without Hope By Casey Watson

hope.jpg

A BOY WITHOUT HOPE is the heart-breaking story of a boy who didn’t know the meaning of love. A history of abuse and neglect has left Miller destined for life’s scrap heap. But in this turbulent story of conflict and struggle, Casey Watson is determined to help Miller overcome his demons, show him love and give him hope.

Casey Watson is back, doing the job she does best – rolling up her sleeves and fostering the children who, on first meeting, seem like hopeless cases. But when she meets Miller and discovers the truth about his disturbing childhood, even Casey begins to doubt if this child will ever be able to accept love.

Found naked and alone on a railway track, Miller was just five when he was first admitted into the care system. Emotionally tormented by his biological parents, Miller has never understood how to establish meaningful relationships, and his destructive past, and over 20 failed placements, is sealing his fate in society’s social scrap heap.

After a torrent of violent behaviour and numerous failed attempts to help Miller, Casey decides to make an intervention, implementing a severe regime that strips Miller of all control. But soon the emotional demands of Miller’s case start to take their toll on Casey and Mike. Just how far is Casey willing to go to help Miller and save him from his inner demons?

My Thoughts:

This is the story about Miller who is a young boy that after being found in dreadful conditions is taken into care. After many failed attempts of being in foster care he goes to live with Casey and her family. Deep down I knew there would be more to Miller’s behaviour than was being let on, it is sad how these children’s lives have been. It is interesting the techniques Casey and her family use to help Miller and I was willing that there would be a good outcome in the end.

A Ration Book Christmas By Jean Fullerton

A Ration Book Christmas By Jean Fullerton

jean fullerton

In the darkest days of the Blitz, Christmas is more important than ever.

With Christmas approaching, the Brogan family of London’s East End are braving the horrors of the Blitz. With the men away fighting for King and Country and the ever-present dangers of the German Luftwaffe’s nightly reign of death and destruction, the family must do all they can to keep a stiff upper lip.

For Jo, the youngest of the Brogan sisters, the perils of war also offer a new-found freedom. Jo falls in love with Tommy, a man known for his dangerous reputation as much as his charm. But as the falling bombs devastate their neighbourhood and rationing begins to bite, will the Brogans manage to pull together a traditional family Christmas? And will Jo find the love and security she seeks in a time of such grave peril?

My Thoughts:

Jean Fullerton’s books never fail to disappoint and I was glad when I got to read this one, it’s a cracker. I loved reading about back in the day when the Blitz was on and how each person from the family coped. A really interesting and knowledgeable book. I loved it.

The Christmas Sisters By Sarah Morgan

The Christmas Sisters By Sarah Morgan

christmas sisters.jpg

It’s not what’s under the Christmas tree, but who’s around it that matters most.

All Suzanne McBride wants for Christmas is her three daughters happy and at home. But when sisters Posy, Hannah and Beth return to their family home in the Scottish Highlands, old tensions and buried secrets start bubbling to the surface.

Suzanne is determined to create the perfect family Christmas, but the McBrides must all face the past and address some home truths before they can celebrate together . . .

My Thoughts:

I am a big fan of Sarah’s books and was excited to receive this one. Sarah’s books are so easy to get into and it is a perfect feel good read with a snowy setting. All the characters are likeable and have their own problems which can be relate able to the reader. The setting was fantastic, I really enjoyed reading this story.

A Gift from the Comfort Food Cafe By Debbie Johnson

A Gift from the Comfort Food Cafe By Debbie Johnson

comfort food cafe

Christmas has never been Katie Seddon’s favourite time of year. Whilst everyone else shares memories of families coming together and festive number ones, the soundtrack to Katie’s childhood wasn’t quite so merry.

But since she moved to the village of Budbury on the gorgeous Dorset coast, Katie and her baby son have found a new family. A family who have been brought together by life’s unexpected roads and the healing magic of a slice of cake and a cupful of kindess at the Comfort Food Café.

This year, Katie’s new friends are determined to give her a Christmas to remember, and with a gorgeous newcomer in town, Katie’s Christmas wish for a happy home for her son might just come true.

My Thoughts:

There are a few books in the Comfort Food Cafe series but they can be read as a standalone. I have read a couple of them and always get excited to return to Budbury. The fact that the books are set in Dorset is a big bonus for me as I grew up going on holiday there and will visit whenever I can. I love the warmth that the story gives off and you truly feel part of the family. This story has a different person for each chapter and you really feel close to the family and friends adding to that lots of tasty food and romance. You are in for a real treat with this book.

Missing Him: A real love story By L. Penn

Missing Him: A real love story By L. Penn

leah.jpg

In therapy, Emery Pearson struggles to explain her flawed character and difficult past to Doctor Susan James.

But in order to secure her release, she must prove she is no longer a threat to anyone she could possibly fall in love with….

Ever again.

My Thoughts:

I love the fact that straight from the word go, this story is powerful, we as readers get to read about flashbacks that Emery is having and about how her life has changed. There are an interesting bunch of characters and many emotional and intriguing things along the way with family and friends. The ending left me in tears. A thought provoking read.

A Christmas Date By Camilla Isley (Book 3)

A Christmas Date By Camilla Isley (Book 3)

book 3

No one wants to be single at the holidays.

Even Little Miss Grinch, Nikki, a successful and independent woman, must face her bachelorette status at the most horrible time of the year. December is her personal version of holly-jolly hell: a merry torture made of couples kissing at every corner, forced vacation days, and an inescapable family reunion. And when her baby sister announces she’s engaged—to Paul, the man Nikki is secretly in love with—and that he’s spending the holidays with them, Christmas starts looking bluer than ever.

Nikki can’t possibly survive an entire week trapped home as the family’s spinster. But she has no time to meet men or to try the newest dating app, she’s too busy working as a video producer for an advertising agency. So what’s a girl to do? Nikki has the perfect solution: to hire a fake boyfriend.

Luckily, her job gives her access to an endless catalog of gorgeous actors to choose from. But Nikki will soon discover that keeping business and pleasure from mixing isn’t so easy, and that she might not be immune to a little mistletoe magic. Especially not when she picked out the perfect man as her Christmas date..

My Thoughts:

This is book 3 in the series and it can be read as a standalone. This was a little cracker of a Christmas read. I loved the idea of this story and it certainly didn’t disappoint. Nikki isn’t a fan of Christmas time and has to spend it at home with her family so decided to hire a fake boyfriend, you just know it is going to be funny. Expect laughs, romance and a sprinkling of Christmas spirit.

Love Connection By Camilla Isley (Book 1)

Love Connection By Camilla Isley (Book 1)

book 1

Have you ever wondered what might have been?
Gemma is at the airport, staring at two plane tickets to two different cities. Two different weddings. Two different futures. She’s at a crossroads.

Be maid of honor at her best friend’s wedding or crash her ex’s?

Gemma’s decision, unknown to her, hinges on a delayed flight and a chance meeting. Now her life is about to go down two parallel tracks–will Gemma fly toward a life with her first love or a future with a man she’s not even met yet?

In concurrent storylines, Gemma lives out the consequences of each journey. Different stories unravel with unpredictable outcomes for Gemma and her loved ones.

My Thoughts:

This is the first book in the series, they can all be read as a standalone though. I found Camilla has a way that she manages to connect with her readers and her writing is really thought out. In this story we meet Gemma and the chapters switch from her going to her best mate and also her going to her ex. I loved getting to know the characters and look forward to the next instalment.

I Invited Her In By Adele Parks

I Invited Her In By Adele Parks

adele parks.jpg

‘I invited her in… and she took everything.’

When Mel hears from a long-lost friend in need of help, she doesn’t hesitate to invite her to stay. Mel and Abi were best friends back in the day, sharing the highs and lows of student life, until Mel’s unplanned pregnancy made her drop out of her studies.

Now, seventeen years later, Mel and Abi’s lives couldn’t be more different. Mel is happily married, having raised her son on her own before meeting her husband, Ben. Now they share gorgeous girls and have a chaotic but happy family home, with three children.

Abi, meanwhile, followed her lover to LA for a glamorous life of parties, celebrity and indulgence. Everything was perfect, until she discovered her partner had been cheating on her. Seventeen years wasted, and nothing to show for it. So what Abi needs now is a true friend to lean on, to share her grief over a glass of wine, and to have some time to heal. And what better place than Mel’s house, with her lovely kids, and supportive husband…

My Thoughts:

I found this story really engrossing. I have to say I did work out one of the twists quite early on but it did nothing to stop me from reading on. The story drew me in and I felt mesmerised about what was going to happen. The story involves around jealousy, revenge, and betrayal. I haven’t read many books by this author before and I will certainly be looking out for her books now.
