Sunshine on a Rainy Day By Bryony Fraser

Sunshine on a Rainy Day By Bryony Fraser

sunshine-on-a-rainy-day

It’s Zoe and Jack’s first wedding anniversary party. They’ve got an announcement! They’re getting divorced…

Marriage isn’t for everyone – something that Zoe and Jack discovered only after they’d walked down the aisle. Bad timing, huh? So now they’re stuck together in their once harmonious marital home, neither one of them willing to move out of their lovely house.

With Zoe’s three sisters always wanting a say, and Jack’s best friend trying his best to fix things between them, misunderstandings arise. Tempers flare. ‘Accidents’ happen…

Zoe and Jack are going to be lucky if they’re still alive when the twelve months are up. But maybe things aren’t quite as final as they seem?

My Thoughts:

I was given an advanced copy of this book but I waited till recently to read it as I wanted to take a funny book on holiday with me. I really didn’t enjoy this one, I read till halfway and gave up. I found Zoe quite irritating and very immature. I was hoping something would happen but unfortunately it did not. Even though I hate giving up on a book I just knew that would have to be the case in this book. This is my opinion of the book but other people may love it.

The return of Norah Wells By Virginia Macgregor

The return of Norah Wells By Virginia Macgregor

norah-wells

This title will be released on October 20, 2016.

One ordinary morning, Norah Wells walked out of her house on Willoughby Street and never looked back. Six years later, she returns to the home she left only to find another woman in her place. Fay held Norah’s family together after she disappeared, she shares a bed with Norah’s husband and Norah’s youngest daughter calls Fay ‘Mummy’.

Now that Norah has returned, everyone has questions. Where has she been? Why did she leave? And why is she back? As each member of the family tries to find the answers they need, they must also face up to the most pressing question of all – what happens to The Mother Who Stayed when The Mother Who Left comes back?

My Thoughts:

I was given an advanced copy of this book for an honest review. After reading Virginia’s previous novel What Milo Saw I was intrigued to read this one. This was a brilliant read with lots of twists and turns. I liked the fact that the chapters were short but also because each chapter was by a different person which kept it fresh but also I wanted to read on to find out what happened to each person. I really enjoyed this quirky tale of a very unusual family.

A Street Cat Named Bob By James Bowen

A Street Cat Named Bob By James Bowen

download

When James Bowen found an injured, ginger street cat curled up in the hallway of his sheltered accommodation, he had no idea just how much his life was about to change. James was living hand to mouth on the streets of London and the last thing he needed was a pet.

Yet James couldn’t resist helping the strikingly intelligent tom cat, whom he quickly christened Bob. He slowly nursed Bob back to health and then sent the cat on his way, imagining he would never see him again. But Bob had other ideas.

Soon the two were inseparable and their diverse, comic and occasionally dangerous adventures would transform both their lives, slowly healing the scars of each other’s troubled pasts.

My Thoughts:

I couldn’t help sharing this picture of Bob and James together. How sweet are them to together?  I decided to read this book as a change from the books I normally read. This was a cracking little read that didn’t require too much of my attention. Having a cat myself and hearing all about Bob from people that had read this book I was excited to read it. What a lovely cat Bob is and James is such a lovely, caring person for taking him on. They are definitely friends for life. A lovely heart warming easy read that you will not want to put down.

Hopeless romantic Eva Jordan loves everything about Christmas. Even if she is spending it alone housesitting a spectacular Fifth Avenue apartment. What she didn’t expect was to find the penthouse still occupied by its gorgeous–and mysterious–owner.

Bestselling crime writer Lucas Blade is having the nightmare before Christmas. With a deadline and the anniversary of his wife’s death looming, he’s isolated himself in his penthouse with only his grief for company. But when the blizzard of the century leaves Eva snowbound in his apartment, Lucas starts to open up to the magic she brings…This Christmas, is Lucas finally ready to trust that happily-ever-afters do exist?

My Thoughts:

I was given this book for an honest review. Another brilliant read from Sarah Morgan, her books just keep getting better and better. I love them. I was given an advanced copy of this book and I couldn’t wait to start reading, it only took me a few days.  This story is all about Eva and how at Christmas time she has to go to house sit but she what she doesn’t realise is that the occupier is still there the handsome Lucas Blade. They don’t get off to the best of starts but I was hoping that Eva would have her happily ever after and I kind of wanted Lucas to aswell. This is not just any romance, this is a sparkly romance. A perfect story to curl up with.

Karen is meant to be the one who fixes problems.

It’s her job, as a psychiatrist – and it’s always been her role as a friend.

But Jessica is different. She should be the patient, the one that Karen helps.

But she knows things about Karen. Her friends, her personal life. Things no patient should know.

And Karen is starting to wonder if she should have let her in . . .

My Thoughts:

I won this book in a competition and was really excited about reading it. The book tells the stories of three best friends Karen, Eleanor and Bea. They go through alot together, have their ups and downs but always seem to support one another or do they? I knew from the start something really bad had happened but I didn’t know what. I was intrigued to read on and wasn’t prepared for the twists and turns that this story receives. I loved it and will look out for more by Jenny Blackhurst because she is a brilliant writer.

The Cambridge Fens, 1938.

Little Rosanna is part of a close-knit Fenland family and the youngest of three cousins. In a time of childhood abandon and adventures on the water, life couldn’t be more perfect.

But things are not always as they seem. When Rosanna’s new baby brother is born, tragedy strikes the family. And, with the outbreak of World War Two just around the corner, and a move to the Norfolk countryside, Rosanna’s life is changed forever. And, as she and the family grow together, she realises that to find happiness, we sometimes have to break away from the things we know.

My Thoughts:

I was sent an advanced copy of this book for an honest review. What a delightful read. This is my second book by Sheila and I really enjoyed it. The story is all about little Rosanna and what happens to her and her family as World War Two strikes. It is interesting to read about that era and I learnt things I didn’t even know. A lovely warm hearted read.

sheila-newburyThe East End, 1939.

She moves in with Phoebe Bliss, whose cheerful smile masks a dark past that ten year-old Georgia couldn’t possibly understand.

Georgia soon finds herself involved in the small town complicated love lives. But some secrets aren meant for little girls, and she finds herself in danger.

Can a good heart keep a mischievous girl out of trouble?

My Thoughts:

I received a copy of this book for an honest review. This is a new author to me but I really liked this story, it is set in the East End in 1939 and it is a bit different to all the other books I have been reading of late. There are some truly wonderful characters that I have come across in this book even though the story is mainly about Georgia, it does involve other people that are close to her and their stories. A lovely read that I wont forget in a hurry.

Ivy Lane By Cathy Bramley

Ivy Lane By Cathy Bramley

ivy-lane

From spring to summer, autumn to winter, a lot can happen in a single year . . .

Tilly Parker needs a fresh start, fresh air and a fresh attitude if she is ever to leave the past behind and move on with her life. As she seeks out peace and quiet in a new town, taking on a plot at Ivy Lane allotments seems like the perfect solution.

But the friendly Ivy Lane community has other ideas and gradually draw Tilly in to their cosy, comforting world of planting seedlings, organizing bake sales and planning seasonal parties.

As the seasons pass, will Tilly learn to stop hiding amongst the sweetpeas and let people back into her life – and her heart?

My Thoughts:

Having read some of Cathy’s other books, I was really looking forward to reading this one. I loved Tilly even though she had heartbreak in her past, she still manages to look after her good friends. I was wishing that she had a happy ending and I thought the ending was the right one. I loved the idea of a small village all getting together and how they help each other out. I absolutely loved this book and there are some tasty recipes in the back section of this book that I may try out.

Runaway Girl By Casey Watson

Runaway Girl By Casey Watson

runaway-girl

This title will be released on October 20, 2016.

Fourteen-year-old Adrianna arrives on Casey’s doorstep with no possessions, no English, and no explanation. It will be a few weeks before Casey starts getting the shocking answers to her questions….

Brought to Casey as a short-term emergency placement, fourteen-year-old Adrianna arrives with nothing but her gratitude. Having ‘turned herself in’ to a social services office some hundred miles away, she has no possessions, no English and, apparently, no history – not that she’s willing to share, anyway. She is a beautiful young Polish girl, with the bearing of a ballerina, but is terrified, malnourished and unwell. And, having slept rough for some time (the little they do know about her) she spends much of her first days with Watsons asleep in bed.

Growing concerned about Adrianna’s wellbeing, and her persistent high temperature, Casey decides to call in the GP. But, to her surprise, Adrianna becomes almost hysterical about being examined and, given her refusal to talk – even via the interpreter they’ve brought in for her – Casey’s fostering antennae begin twitching. Where has she come from? And why is she so terrified to be touched? What has happened to make her so ill and scared?

It will be a few weeks before Casey starts getting answers to these questions. Shocking answers; ones that throw up a whole host of new questions and the beginnings of a journey to find justice for Adrianna, and, more importantly, a future, and a home…

My Thoughts:

I received an advanced copy of this book for an honest review. I have never read any of Casey Watson’s books before but have read similar styles of this kind of book. This story is all about Adrianna who has come over from Poland and she is hiding something much more than Casey who is her foster mum can ever imagine. It is a sad story but one with a happy ending. I cannot ever imagine how Adrianna felt but I felt like she was fairly headstrong and was going to get what she wanted. A story that I will never forget.
