Laura and Jess are sisters – but that’s pretty much all they have in common…

Laura has a laid back attitude to life. Her home isn’t spotless, and after a hard day she likes to take to bed with a block of cheese.

Jess, on the other hand, is your classic overachiever: The Big Sister, Chief of Chivvying, Queen of the family WhatsApp. Her life is picture-perfect.

Laura and Jess lost their dad when they were kids, and now their mum is gone too. And one of the hardest times in life is made harder by the fact they can’t agree on a single thing, from where to scatter the ashes to whether “passed away” is even an acceptable term.

But when Laura starts pushing her own boundaries and Jess agrees to let other people in to her (not so) perfect life, the two women realize they need each other more than ever. They might not be ready to admit it, but family is everything…

My Thoughts:

A thoroughly entertaining read but tender and emotional at the same time. This is Nicola’s second book, if you haven’t read the neighbours then you definitely should. This story is about two sisters called Laura and Jess who are relatable characters and are going through subjects that I think most people can relate to. I really felt for Laura as I felt as though people see her as a push over and she never has any time for herself. Jess I felt as though even though she is the bigger sister, she seemed very bossy and a little bit stuck up, like look at me. But she is hiding things that no one knows about, will she let her secrets come between her and Laura or will Laura be able to help her? Even though there are sad parts to this story there are also some hilarious bits that had me in stitches. Some of the things Laura says and does and also her son Billy.

Live A Little By Madeleine Reiss

Live A Little By Madeleine Reiss

Two Sisters. One road trip. What could possibly go wrong?

Lottie has always followed the rules, her life is comfortable and she is – finally, finally – marrying her long-term, sensible, boyfriend Dean.

Tina is carefree, wild and, maybe, just a little bit careless. She doesn’t understand Lottie’s obsession with settling down with ‘dull Dean’. There’s so much to explore in the world.

The two sisters have drifted apart since the death of their older sister. Without her, Lottie and Tina realise how little they know each other. Desperate to remedy this, Tina convinces Lottie to set out on a road trip across the US, just the two of them.

But Tina has one more surprise in mind to shake up Lottie’s life – she must say yes to everything Tina suggests, no matter what . . .

My Thoughts:

This is the story of two sisters called Lottie and Tina, we hear about their own personal stories which I am sure some women can relate to. I didn’t feel as though I connected with either sister as I felt as though they were both a little bit selfish in their own ways. I liked the idea of the story how they go on a road trip and get up to all sorts of things. Part of the story is quite emotional and that is when I really felt for the sisters.

My Thoughts:

I was lucky enough to get an advanced reading copy of this book. When I looked at the cover I immediately thought of the summer, this book is mainly set in Italy and reading it I could feel the warm Italian sun on my face. I managed to read this book in a day, it is a short book and I really wanted to find out what happens. The story is a bit of a sad one but you will also find romance, lots of food and family.

My Thoughts:

You can’t go wrong with a book that has been written by Lucy Diamond, her books are just utterly fantastic. The cover looks so inviting and gorgeous it just made me want to dive straight in. I really liked the plot for this story as always you feel like you can warm to the characters as they all have real life problems. I loved Polly and Clare’s mum and dad they reminded me of mine which was nice. I loved the idea of Clare setting up her own business I felt really nervous for her but she came up trumps in the end. Such a lovely story with a lovely outcome.

The story itself is a heartbreaking but beautifully uplifting one, there are many twists and turns, and I honestly didn’t expect what we find out in the story. It made me think about what I would do for someone I loved and learn how a secret can affect not just one but many lives. Really capturing read, an author I am sure to look out for in the future.
