The Honey Farm on the Hill By Jo Thomas

The Honey Farm on the Hill By Jo Thomas

jo thomas

This title will be released on August 24, 2017.

We never forget the one who got away.

Eighteen years ago Nell fell in love in the mountains of Crete and life changed for ever. Nell’s daughter, Demi, has never met her dad. Nell never saw him again.

When she gets the chance to return to the hilltop town of Vounoplagia – where everything began – Nell can’t resist the urge to go back and find him.

Working on a honey farm perched high up in the hills, there’s plenty to keep her busy. And she will quickly realise the town harbours just as many secrets as she does.

But if Nell’s favourite romantic films are right, there’s a happy ending in store for each of us. All she has to do is seek out the magic of the mountains…

My Thoughts:

I am a big fan of Jo Thomas and her books. I couldn’t wait to delve in to one of her wonderful stories again. As with it being so hot in the UK at the moment, I kind of felt as though I was in Crete experiencing some of the temperatures that Nell was experiencing in the book. There are some wonderful characters in the story especially the family that Nell goes to stay with. I enjoyed reading about the bees and how a factory to make honey is put together, I am not a big fan of honey but still enjoyed the book nether the less.

I was given this book for an honest review.

A Storm of Strawberries By Jo Cotterill

A Storm of Strawberries By Jo Cotterill

stawberries

This title will be released on June 29, 2017.

Darby loves summer on her family’s strawberry farm – but is the weather about to turn?

Darby’s favourite things are listening to music – preferably The Beatles – picking strawberries on the farm and spending time with her big sister. She is looking forward to doing all three over the long weekend, but when Kaydee has a friend to stay and the sunshine disappears, everything gets turned on its head.

When the storm clears, will Darby find everything is back to normal, and what is ‘normal’ anyway?

My Thoughts:

The cover of this book reminded me of growing up and going in the summer to pick strawberries. I found this a nice easy read but one that also tackles a few sensitive issues. I like the fact that it centres around Darby who is twelve years old, she is a lovely young lady who has down’s syndrome. I found I could relate to what she was saying as my cousin has down syndrome and I use to look after him when he was little and I know the struggles he use to have to put up with. I saw at first hand how people treat people with downs syndrome and people can be very nasty, at the end of the day they are just normal people and shouldn’t be judged differently. Everyone is equal. A short read but one I enjoyed very much. I liked hearing Darby remembering stories of her growing up.

Last Seen By Lucy Clarke

Last Seen By Lucy Clarke

lucy clarke

Seven years ago, two boys went missing at sea – and only one was brought to shore. The Sandbank, a remote stretch of coast dotted with beach huts, was scarred forever.

Sarah’s son survived, but on the anniversary of the accident, he disappears without trace. As new secrets begin to surface, The Sandbank hums with tension and unanswered questions. Sarah’s search grows more desperate and she starts to mistrust everyone she knows – and she’s right to.

Someone saw everything on that fateful day seven years ago. And they’ll do anything to keep the truth buried.

My Thoughts:

I have loved Lucy’s previous novels and couldn’t wait to get started on this one. I love the fact that Lucy’s books are always based around the beach or the sea. I know she writes from a beach hut and when I am reading one of her books I can imagine her writing in her beach hut. It is a lovely feeling. This story gripped me from the first chapter, there are lots of twists and turns and I felt like I stopped breathing a few times as I didn’t see what was going to happen. Superbly written.

The Night Visitor By Lucy Atkins

The Night Visitor By Lucy Atkins

night visitor

Professor Olivia Sweetman has worked hard to achieve the life she loves, with a high-flying career as a TV presenter and historian, three children and a talented husband. But as she stands before a crowd at the launch of her new bestseller she can barely pretend to smile. Her life has spiralled into deceit and if the truth comes out, she will lose everything.

Only one person knows what Olivia has done. Vivian Tester is the socially awkward sixty-year-old housekeeper of a Sussex manor who found the Victorian diary on which Olivia’s book is based. She has now become Olivia’s unofficial research assistant. And Vivian has secrets of her own.

As events move between London, Sussex and the idyllic South of France, the relationship between these two women grows more entangled and complex. Then a bizarre act of violence changes everything.

My Thoughts:

As Lucy Atkins is a new author to me I did wonder what her writing would be like and if I would enjoy it. I am happy to say I did. Each chapter is either Vivian or Olivia who are the two main characters I found them both compelling, they both appear to have nothing in common but then their lives are entwined. I found this story quite unusual, very gripping and a little creepy, one that you do not want to put down.

My Thoughts:

I loved this book, anything that is written by Paige Toon is utterly moving and beautifully written. You know what you are going to get and you get it. I laughed, I cried and I was hooked from the first chapter. I loved little April, she is such a sweetheart with some of the things that she does. I really look forward to the next book.

The Forever House By Veronica Henry

The Forever House By Veronica Henry

the forever houe

Hunter’s Moon is the ultimate ‘forever’ house. Nestled by a river in the Peasebrook valley, it has been the Willoughbys’ home for over fifty years, and now estate agent Belinda Baxter is determined to find the perfect family to live there.

But the sale of the house unlocks decades of family secrets – and brings Belinda face to face with her own troubled past. . .

My Thoughts:

There is just something magical about Veronica Henry’s writing, it is like pure escapism. It just feels very real as though you are experiencing it like the characters are. I found the story line to be quite refreshing and a bit different but I liked it. A page turner at it’s best.

I doubt I will ever tire of Sarah Morgan’s books they are just all too good. Some of the characters we have met or have been mentioned in previous stories. The characters are all likeable and it is an easy read. There is a very handsome vet, an ex girlfriend and some animals too what more could you not like? I read this book in two sittings and cannot wait for the next one.

The Silent Witness By Casey Watson

The Silent Witness By Casey Watson

casey watson

This title will be released on June 1, 2017.

‘I’m so sorry, Casey,’ my link worker John said, sounding weary. ‘I know this is probably the worst time I could ring you, but we desperately need someone to take a child tonight.’

It’s the night before Christmas when Casey and Mike get the call. A twelve year old girl, stuck between a rock and a hard place. Her father is on a ventilator, fighting for his life, while her mother is currently on remand in prison. Despite claiming she attacked him in self-defence, she’s been charged with his attempted murder.

The girl is called Bella, and she’s refusing to say anything. The trouble is that she is also the only witness…

My Thoughts:

I have read quite a few of Casey Watson’s books and find them utterly heartbreaking by what some of the children have been through. You can’t ever imagine it. Casey Watson is a foster carer and these are her stories from the previous children she has looked after. I think she does an amazing job helping the children. This story is about twelve year old Bella and we discover why she is refusing to say anything. A sad story but one that has a happy ending.

But as Lucy finds herself welcomed into the warm-hearted community of Langtry Meadows, she begins to realise new challenges await – like frogs in the classroom, a rather difficult donkey, and a very brooding local vet…

Local boy Charlie Davenport has his own issues about living in the close-knit village of Langtry Meadows. His private life is already fuel for the well-meaning gossips and the very last thing he needs is to get close to the new school teacher…no matter how lovely she is.

But as summer days drift away Langtry Meadows weaves its magic, Charlie and Lucy both get the chance to turn over a new leaf and start anew…maybe with each other?

My Thoughts:

I couldn’t wait for this book to come out, the cover is so vibrant and makes you think of the Summer. I definitely found I could relate to the main character Lucy, I felt as though I really liked her alot. There is a certain charm about the story as it is set in an idyllic country village. This is the first book in the series and I can’t wait to read the rest of them. Brilliant writing once again from an exceptional author.

Shelter By Sarah Franklin

Shelter By Sarah Franklin

sarah franklin

This title will be released on July 27, 2017.

Early spring 1944.
In a clearing deep within an English forest two lost souls meet for the first time.

Connie Granger has escaped the devastation of her bombed out city home. She has found work in the Women’s Timber Corps, and for her, this remote community must now serve a secret purpose.

Seppe, an Italian prisoner of war, is haunted by his memories. But in the forest camp, he finds a strange kind of freedom.

Their meeting signals new beginnings. In each other they find the means to imagine their own lives anew, and to face that which each fears the most.

But outside their haven, the world is ravaged by war and old certainties are crumbling. Both Connie and Seppe must make a life-defining choice which threatens their fragile existence. How will they make sense of this new world, and find their place within it? What does it mean to be a woman, or a foreign man, in these days of darkness and new light?

My Thoughts:

I was given a advanced reading copy of this book. I was looking for something different to read from my usual types of genres and I came across this book. It is set in 1944’s and we find out about Connie Granger and her life growing up and how she comes to work for the Women’s Timber Corps. We also meet Seppe who is Italian and he is a prisoner of War and it is about how the two of them get to know each other through working as Timber Corps. I found the start quite slow but I decided to persist and I am glad I did. I found the story deeply moving and it made me more aware what women would do in those days to protect till the end.
