Don’t let them catch you…

A Deadly Hunt
DS ‘Heck’ Heckenburg has been tasked with retrieving one of the UK’s most wanted men. But the trail runs cold when Heck discovers a video tape showing the fugitive in a fight for his life. A fight he has no chance of winning.

A Dangerous Game
Heck realises that there’s another player in this game of cat and mouse, and this time, they’ve not just caught the prize: they’ve made sure no one else ever does.

A Man Who Plays With Fire
How far will Heck and his team go to protect some of the UK’s most brutal killers? And what price is he willing to pay?

My Thoughts:

This is book 7 in the Detective Mark Heckenburg series but you can read it as a standalone which I did. I do want to read the other books though. This book is non stop, I felt as though I would have to dragged away from it as I couldn’t stop reading. I found the plot different and ingenious and such a compulsive read.

I received an ARC copy of this book for an honest review.

SEE NO EVIL

Eyes missing, two bodies lie deep in the forest near a remote Swedish town.

HEAR NO EVIL

Tuva Moodyson, a deaf reporter on a small-time local paper, is looking for the story that could make her career.

SPEAK NO EVIL

A web of secrets. And an unsolved murder from twenty years ago.

Can Tuva outwit the killer before she becomes the final victim? She’d like to think so. But first she must face her demons and venture far into the deep, dark woods if she wants to stand any chance of getting the hell out of small-time Gavrik.

My Thoughts:

After reading the first chapter I took an instant liking to the main character called Tuva, I found her a brave and fearless woman. There are a few red herrings which makes you think who is the actual killer. I found the first half a bit slow but through the middle onwards it got better. I didn’t see who the killer was either so that good. I will be intrigued to see what Tuva gets up to in the next book.

A Match Made in Devon By Cathy Bramley

A Match Made in Devon By Cathy Bramley

Sometimes you have to play a part to realise who you really are…

Nina has always dreamed of being a star. Unfortunately her agent thinks she’s more girl-next-door than leading lady and her acting career isn’t going quite as planned. Then, after a series of very public blunders and to escape a gathering storm of paparazzi, Nina is forced to flee from London.

Her plan is to lay low with a friend in Devon, in beautiful Brightside Cove. But soon Nina learns that more drama can be found in a small village than on a hectic television set.

And when a gorgeous man (and his adorable dog) catch her eye, it’s not long before London and showbiz start to lose their appeal. Will Nina choose to return to the bright lights or has she met her match in Brightside Cove?

My Thoughts:

Cathy’s books just get better and better and I am always excited when the next one comes out. This story evolves around Nina who needs to get away for a bit because of some issues regarding her work as an actress. I love the way the story unfolds and I found it such a delightful read. Pure escapism.

An Unwanted Guest By Shari Lapena

An Unwanted Guest By Shari Lapena

shari.jpg

We can’t choose the strangers we meet.

As the guests arrive at beautiful, remote Mitchell’s Inn, they’re all looking forward to a relaxing weekend deep in the forest, miles from anywhere. They watch their fellow guests with interest, from a polite distance.

Usually we can avoid the people who make us nervous, make us afraid.

With a violent storm raging, the group finds itself completely cut off from the outside world. Nobody can get in – or out. And then the first body is found . . . and the horrifying truth comes to light. There’s a killer among them – and nowhere to run.

Until we find ourselves in a situation we can’t escape. Trapped.

My Thoughts:

A group of strangers with their own individual stories come to a hotel in the middle of nowhere, they get stuck because of the increasing snow storm and can’t call for help. Then dead bodies start appearing, it makes for a good plot line but I felt as though it wasn’t tense enough. The ending didn’t do really much for me. But I did like all the red herrings involving the guests and the hotel staff.

My Thoughts:

I dived straight into this book and managed to read it within a day as it was just too good to put down. There is a blossoming romance, some very cheeky animals including a turkey called Dobby. It is the perfect setting with views of the sea. I really enjoyed my time at Sandcastle Bay.

‘Do you need my help?’

They called him Orphan X. Evan Smoak used to be a government secret weapon.

Then he ran and became the man you call on when you’ve nowhere else to turn.

This time it’s a teenage runaway called Joey.
Like Evan she’s no innocent: she was brought up inside the same programme that raised him.

Now Evan must find Joey before those hunting her do.
Which is where the trouble begins.

Because this might not be about Joey at all.
And if it’s not, then it must be about Evan.

But finding out why could kill them both …

My Thoughts:

I have read the other books in the Orphan X series and loved them, this one was absolutely thrilling too. I loved going on the journey with Evan Smoak and meeting some of the characters he comes into contact with. I like Mia and her son Peter, he seems to come out with some funny stuff that he says to Evan and in this book I liked Joey. I wonder will there be another book.

Louise

Since her husband walked out, Louise has made her son her world, supporting them both with her part-time job. But all that changes when she meets…

Young, successful and charming – Louise cannot believe a man like him would look at her twice let alone be attracted to her. But that all comes to a grinding halt when she meets his wife…

Adele

Beautiful, elegant and sweet – Louise’s new friend seems perfect in every way. As she becomes obsessed by this flawless couple, entangled in the intricate web of their marriage, they each, in turn, reach out to her.

But only when she gets to know them both does she begin to see the cracks… Is David really the man she thought she knew and is Adele as vulnerable as she appears?
Just what terrible secrets are they both hiding and how far will they go to keep them?

My Thoughts:

After reading the plot I was fairly certain this was going to be really good, after reading half way through I thought it was really good but unfortunately the ending was a let down, it just seemed a bit ridiculous. It is a bit of a messed up story one that is dark too.

The Last Thing She Told Me By Linda Green

The Last Thing She Told Me By Linda Green

linda green

Even the deepest buried secrets can find their way to the surface…

Moments before she dies, Nicola’s grandmother Betty whispers to her that there are babies at the bottom of the garden.

Nicola’s mother claims she was talking nonsense. However, when Nicola’s daughter finds a bone while playing in Betty’s garden, it’s clear that something sinister has taken place.

But will unearthing painful family secrets end up tearing Nicola’s family apart?

My Thoughts:

Linda Green has done it again with this emotional rollercoaster of a book. This is such a moving story involving Nicola looking after her grandmother Betty. It shows how a family can be ripped apart by a devastating admission one that happened a long time ago in the past. Even though it is a sad story it is a very descriptive story which makes the reader take it in.

Dead Woman Walking By Sharon Bolton

Dead Woman Walking By Sharon Bolton

Just before dawn in the hills near the Scottish border, thirteen passengers on a hot-air balloon flight witness a brutal murder. Within the next hour, all but one of them will be dead.

Alone, scared and trusting no-one, she flees for her life, running to the one place she feels safe. But she’s seen the killer’s face, and he’s seen hers – and he won’t rest until he’s eliminated the last witness to his crime . . .

My Thoughts:

This is my second book by Sharon Bolton and I can honestly say Wow. Sharon’s books pull you in straight away and I love how some of the chapters are a paragraph but it leaves you feeling as though you must read on. This is definitely an author I want to read more of and I am looking forward to reading my next book of hers. If you like intense reads, this is the one for you.
