The Big Five-0 By Jane Wenham-Jones

The Big Five-0 By Jane Wenham-Jones

They’re planning a party the seaside town of Broadstairs will never forget, but these four 49 year olds have far more on their minds than canapés and balloons for their half-century…
Empty-nester Charlotte’s in a lather over what her husband might be up to
Single mother Roz lives in fear that her teenage daughter will discover how she pays the bills
Tough Business woman Fay crows about her no-strings toy boy but hides the real story behind her divorce
Singleton Sherie’s cat is the only male in her life who ever stays around. Or is he?

They’re all keeping secrets but as the big birthday looms, the beans are about to spill. As the shocks come out, one of them is going to need her friends more than ever…

My Thoughts:

When four friends are about to hit fifty, what do they do but to have a huge joint party. We see each friend tell her story there is more than meets the eye with each lady. There are sensitive and relatable issues that are dealt with very well. Expect some tears and some laughs as we see how friends can really come together in times of need.

Postscript:The sequel to PS, I Love You By Cecelia Ahern

Postscript:The sequel to PS, I Love You By Cecelia Ahern

postscrict.jpg

It’s been seven years since Holly Kennedy’s husband died – six since she read his final letter, urging Holly to find the courage to forge a new life.

She’s proud of all the ways in which she has grown and evolved. But when a group inspired by Gerry’s letters, calling themselves the PS, I Love You Club, approaches Holly asking for help, she finds herself drawn back into a world that she worked so hard to leave behind.

Reluctantly, Holly beings a relationship with the club, even as their friendship threatens to destroy the peace she believes she has achieved. As each of these people calls upon Holly to help them leave something meaningful behind for their loved ones, Holly will embark on a remarkable journey – one that will challenge her to ask whether embracing the future means betraying the past, and what it means to love someone forever…

My Thoughts:

I remember reading PS, I love you a while back and finding it a heartbreaking read, this one is an emotional story too but one with an uplifting background. I think people will be able to relate to Holly and her friends stories. I found Holly to be very inspiring and I really liked what she did for not just the club but for the people that became her friends and their families. Such a beautiful and inspiring story, one that will stay with me forever.

My Thoughts:

I have been wanting to get my hands on this book for ages and finally I did and it did not disappoint. The book is set in the 1930’s and we see how life was in those days. I found it sad how the children had to grow up in houses that were unfit for purpose and how ill they were. I loved reading about the factory where they made the quality street chocolates and I could almost imagine the smells of the chocolates being made there. A real treat of a book.

The Last Widow By Karin Slaughter

The Last Widow By Karin Slaughter

widow.jpg

It begins with an abduction. The routine of a family shopping trip is shattered when Michelle Spivey is snatched as she leaves the mall with her young daughter. The police search for her, her partner pleads for her release, but in the end…they find nothing. It’s as if she disappeared into thin air.

A month later, on a sleepy Sunday afternoon, medical examiner Sara Linton is at lunch with her boyfriend Will Trent, an agent with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. But the serenity of the summer’s day is broken by the wail of sirens.

Sara and Will are trained to help in an emergency. Their jobs – their vocations – mean that they run towards a crisis, not away from it. But on this one terrible day that instinct betrays them both. Within hours the situation has spiralled out of control; Sara is taken prisoner; Will is forced undercover. And the fallout will lead them into the Appalachian mountains, to the terrible truth about what really happened to Michelle, and to a remote compound where a radical group has murder in mind…

My Thoughts:

I have not ever read a book  by Karin Slaughter before but decided to give it a try. I am sure alot of people are going to enjoy this book but for me it was far too repetitive and it made me want to give up a few times on finishing the book. It does seem that Karin has done alot of research to make the story more interesting.

One Day in Winter By Shari Low

One Day in Winter By Shari Low

winter.jpg

One morning in December… Caro set off on a quest to find out if her relationship with her father had been based on a lifetime of lies.

Lila decided to tell her lover’s wife of their secret affair.

Cammy was on the way to pick up the ring for the surprise proposal to the woman he loved.

And Bernadette vowed to walk away from her controlling husband of 30 years and never look back.

One day, four lives will change forever…

My Thoughts:

I love how this book is set out, each chapter is a different person we get to meet each person and discover their story. I found it good that the characters were all described at the beginning of the story as i did not feel overwhelmed with so many characters. Each persons event seemed to connect and affect one of the other characters and we see how they intertwine with one another at the end of the story. A very cleverly written story.

And when she uncovers a hidden tragedy from his childhood, she realises an awful truth: that you can run from your past – but your secrets will always catch up with you . . .

My Thoughts:

This is a tense and dark story about Grace and her fiance Nick, he goes missing and Grace doesn’t know why. Was it something she did, or is there more to it than meets the eye. The story pulls you in and makes you not want to come up for breath until you find out all the answers. A very cleverly written story.

My Thoughts:

I was looking forward to starting this book as I was expecting lots of laughs and amusement but it didn’t really live up to my expectations. There are a few chuckles and a well written story but it just didn’t hold my attention as though I thought it would.

My Thoughts:

If you fancy a light hearted read with a side dish of cakes, this is the book for you. I love the way when Lizzie’s plans go awry and she moves back to her old village that people from the community rally round to help her including her best friend Jemma. I loved the idea of Lizzies new venture and loved seeing how it would all come together. A nice little story that is an easy read.

My Thoughts:

This is book two in the DCI Anna Tate Crime Thriller series and these books just keep getting better and better. There are two stories in this book that run along side each other both involving DCI Anna Tate. I found I was engrossed in this book as it was gripping and well thought out. I look forward to the next book in the series.
