Finding Love at Hedgehog Hollow By Jessica Redland

Finding Love at Hedgehog Hollow By Jessica Redland

As Samantha Wishaw watches the love of her life marry another woman, she’s ready to give up hope of finding her happy ever after.

But when a chance encounter leads Sam to find friendship in Thomas – a lonely, grumpy elderly widower living at derelict Hedgehog Hollow – her life is about to change forever.

Glad to have a distraction from family feuds and match-making, Sam vows to fulfil Thomas and his wife, Gwendoline’s, dreams of restoring Hedgehog Hollow to its former glory, and to open a hedgehog rescue centre.

Throwing herself into the task at hand, little does Sam realise that the keys to love and happiness may also be found at Hedgehog Hollow, when she least expects it…

My Thoughts:

I loved this story so much, I have never read any of Jessica’s books before but I am certainly going to be reading them from now on. This book cover looks so summery and inviting which made me delve in straight away.I read it in a day as I didn’t want to put it down. I loved the story line and really warmed to Sam, the strong bond she has with her grandad reminded me how my grandad and I are together which was nice. I loved Thomas even though he was grumpy to begin with you knew deep down that he had things on his mind that he didn’t want to talk to any one about. It upset me how lonely some people can be. Sam’s dad seemed nice too, shame about her mum but everyone has their own story shame she took it out of Sam her whole life. I loved the idea of setting up a hedgehog charity, I can really see Sam excelling at that, I am glad after all she has been through there is a light at the end of the tunnel. I would love a follow on to this book as I would love to hear more about the hedgehog side of things and go back and meet all the characters again. I loved it and it definitely deserves more than 5 stars.

Secrets of a Serial Killer By Rosie Walker

My Thoughts:

Omg. That’s what I was saying through this story, I couldn’t believe what I was reading. This is a Serial killer thriller that will mess with your mind. I loved how the book is set out, each chapter a different person but also the newspaper articles and what members of the public were saying about the articles. When Zoe gets kidnapped by this elusive man how will she escape? Rosie writes with so much passion i felt as though I was there and willing Zoe to stay safe. I didn’t want this story to end. I would give it 10/10.

The Misadventures of Evie Epworth By Matson Taylor

The Misadventures of Evie Epworth By Matson Taylor

Sixteen year-old Evie Epworth stands on the cusp of womanhood. But what kind of a woman will she become?

The fastest milk bottle-delivery girl in East Yorkshire, Evie is tall as a tree and hot as the desert sand. She dreams of an independent life lived under the bright lights of London (or Leeds). The two posters of Adam Faith on her bedroom wall (‘brooding Adam’ and ‘sophisticated Adam’) offer wise counsel about a future beyond rural East Yorkshire. Her role models are Charlotte Bronte, Shirley MacLaine and the Queen. But, before she can decide on a career, she must first deal with the malign presence of her future step-mother, the manipulative and money-grubbing Christine.

If Evie can rescue her bereaved father, Arthur, from Christine’s pink and over-perfumed clutches, and save the farmhouse from being sold off then maybe she can move on with her own life and finally work out exactly who it is she is meant to be.

My Thoughts:

I really enjoyed this book. It’s all about Evie and her life as a sixteen and a half year old. We get to meet her family and their farm where they live. Only one small problem her future step mother. There are quite a few funny things that happen in this story, and some parts where I could see Evie struggling but she holds her own and I really like how this story ended. Warm and witty, I would give it a big thumbs up.

They’ve packed up the boxes from their London home, said goodbye to friends and colleagues, and now they are on their way to ‘Hatters Museum of the Wide Wide World – to stay just for the summer. Cate doesn’t want to be there, in Richard’s family home without Richard to guide her any more. And she knows for sure that Araminta, the retainer of the collection of dusty objects and stuffed animals, has taken against them. But they have nowhere else to go. They have to make the best of it.

But Richard hasn’t told Cate the truth about his family’s history. And something about the house starts to work its way under her skin.
Can she really walk away, once she knows the truth?

My Thoughts:

I loved this story, one that will stay with me for a long time. This is my first book of Anstey and will certainly not be my last. This is Cate and Leo’s story, after finding themselves homeless and not having her husband Richard by her side, they move into Richard’s families home which is a museum. I love how the story unfolds, we find out about Cate’s past and what led her to being homeless, I really felt a connection with Cate, and Leo is a nice young chap too that faces everyday struggles, which I can relate to as my cousin has Downs syndrome. It was interesting to learn about the museum and all the things involved with running a museum, It is a very moving and uplifting read that you will not want to put down.

My Thoughts:

This is my first Jane Fallon book and it certainly will not be my last. I found this story funny and dramatic. Every chapter I found I wanted more so gave in and read another chapter. The characters were on point and the one liners were hilarious. I wasn’t expecting twists that turn up in this story either. I look forward to my next Jane Fallon book.

This Dark Little Place By A.S.Hatch

This Dark Little Place By A.S.Hatch

How well do you know your girlfriend?

How well do you know your lover?

How well do you know yourself?

Daniel and Victoria are together. They’re trying for a baby. Ruby is in prison, convicted of assault on an abusive partner.

But when Daniel joins a pen pal program for prisoners, he and Ruby make contact. At first the messages are polite, neutral – but soon they find themselves revealing more and more about themselves. Their deepest fears, their darkest desires.

And then, one day, Ruby comes to find Daniel. And now he must decide who to choose – and who to trust.

My Thoughts:

This is a story that had me gripped from the beginning, I couldn’t work out or see where the story was going which made me more intrigued to read on. The story is quite a quick one but a good one none the less, I loved the idea of writing to a prisoner as you can just imagine there are all different kinds of people in there, you just don’t know who you are going to get. The way the story flows you wouldn’t and couldn’t guess what was going to happen. The shock at the end brings a cleverly written thriller to a dramatic end.

The Hunted By Gabriel Bergmoser

The Hunted By Gabriel Bergmoser

Where does the adventure end . . .
and the nightmare begin?

Frank owns a service station on a little-used highway. His granddaughter, Allie, is sent to stay with him for the summer, but they don’t talk a lot.

Simon is a dreamer and an idealist, in thrall to the romance of the open road and desperately in search of something.

Maggie is the woman who will bring them together, someone whose own personal journey will visit unimaginable terror on them all.

My Thoughts:

I am not sure where to begin with this book, I loved the sound of the story, it was terrifying and creepy but for me I just didn’t enjoy it as much as I hoped I would. Probably for me it was a bit too grim. I am not a fan of lots of blood. Lots of different characters with their own stories to tell, What I have learnt from reading this book is if you go looking for trouble, it is going to find you and it might not be the best idea you have ever had.

The Secret Seaside Escape By Heidi Swain

The Secret Seaside Escape By Heidi Swain

Tess Tyler needs a break. Weighed down by her high-pressure job and her demanding father, she’s left little time to take care of herself. But after a shocking discovery sends her spiralling, she flees to Wynmouth, the seaside town she fell in love with as a child, to escape it all.

With its sandy beaches, stunning rock pools and welcoming community, Tess feels like she can finally breathe again. And as she grows ever closer to local barman Sam, she dares to dream that she might never return to her real life. But when a familiar face returns to town, Tess realises that there are secrets in Wynmouth too, and that her own past may be about to catch up with her . .

My Thoughts:

Reading Heidi’s books just makes me thinking of being wrapped in a warm hug. They always seem to get better and better. I felt as though I was there in Wynmouth, it seemed such a lovely place to be with the beach so close by. The characters are a interesting mix and Heidi does a good job with her characters to make them believable. I can’t wait to visit Wynmouth again in the future as this book sure did put a smile on my face.

Walter and Florence By Susan Hill

Walter and Florence By Susan Hill

A blind widower is befriended by a woman and her son, with terrible consequences. Another widower spends Christmas in an isolated country house, marooned in snowstorms until some former inhabitants return.

Susan Hill’s first short story collection for fifteen years contains these two ghost stories and four others, including reflections by the Duchess of Windsor in extreme old age on the marriage that changed everything.

My Thoughts:

I need something with a little light relief after reading lots of thrillers recently and this book was perfect, it is split into six different stories, I read in half a day and enjoyed all of the stories. It was just the right amount of stories that kept me hooked. The ones I particularly liked were Walter and Florence and Hunger. It just shows you how cruel people can be when people are at their lowest. The stories are all about individuals and with this book they are opening up their world for all to see. It made me thoughtful and one that will stay with me for a long time.

Book Title: Guest List

Author: Lucy Foley

Genre: Thriller

My Rating : ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ /5 ⭐

Wow!what a great read! I like this mystery thriller where the plot is super engaging and hooked us up from the very start. The story was narrated by a bunch of character’s points of view. It reminds me of the book ” Big Little Lies ” and one of the “Agatha Christie ” novels (which I forgot the name). As they narrated the events from their perspective we couldn’t stop imagining the other character’s take on it .which speaks about the author’s brilliance way of capturing the reader. All the knots are slowly untied and we could kind of guessed one or two things but otherwise nearly up to the end, we couldn’t predict anything solid to spoil the thrill. I like it though it’s a thriller it doesn’t have…
