The Wives By Lauren WeisBerger

the wives

He set her up. They’ll bring him down.

Emily Charlton does not do the suburbs. A successful stylist and image consultant to Hollywood stars, she cut her teeth as assistant to legendary fashion editor Miranda Priestly in New York. But with Snapchatting millennials stealing her clients, Emily needs to get back in the game – and fast.

She holes up at the home of her oldest friend Miriam in the upscale suburb of Greenwich. And when Miriam’s friend, model Karolina Hartwell, is publicly dumped by her husband Graham, a senator with presidential ambitions, Emily scents the client of a lifetime.

It’s not just Karolina’s reputation that’s ruined. It’s her family. And Miriam and Emily are determined he won’t get away with it. First they’ll get Karolina’s son back. Then they’ll help her get her own back. Because the wives are mad as hell . . .

My Thoughts:

I thought I would enjoy this book more than I did. There were a few plot lines that didn’t really go anywhere, it was like there was too many characters for the storyline to play out well. I felt as though the storyline was predictable too. It makes for an easy beach read.

A Summer Scandal By Kat French

A Summer Scandal By Kat French

kat french a summer

Summer has never been so scandalous…

When Violet moves to Swallow Beach, she inherits a small Victorian pier with an empty arcade perched on the end of it, and falls in love immediately. She wants nothing more than to rejuvenate it and make it grand again – but how?

When she meets hunky Calvin, inspiration strikes. What if she turned the arcade into an adult-themed arcade full of artisan shops?

Not everyone in the town is happy with the idea, but Violet loves her arcade and business begins to boom. But as tensions worsen and the heat between her and Calvin begins to grow, life at Swallow Beach becomes tricky. Is it worth staying to ride out the storm? And can Violet find her own happy ending before the swallows fly south for the winter?

My Thoughts:

This is the perfect summer read, the cover is so vibrant you just want to dive right in. It is full of wonderful characters with some that may get your pulses racing. I loved the storyline and what Violet plans to do with it is hilarious especially when the Mayoress finds out too. A funny, warm and witty read that will perfect in everyone’s beach bag this Summer. I loved it.

The Wish By Alex Brown

Sam Morgan knows he messed up with his wife Chrissie and daughter Holly – he wasn’t there when they needed him most, but now he’ll do anything to put his family back together again. Until then, he’s back living in the picture-postcard village of Tindledale.

Jude Darling is coming home for good this time. She’s taking over the antique shop in Tindledale, the place where she grew up and she’s going to make sure she’s there for her friend, Chrissie, and Goddaughter, Holly. They certainly need her right now.

As for Holly, there’s only one thing she wants and it’s not the sort of thing you can buy in a shop. She might be thirteen years old, but Holly still believes in wishes, and perhaps if she wishes hard enough, this one might come true…

My Thoughts:

I loved this story and the characters as I felt they really came alive. It is a heartwarming story about love and how sometimes families can be difficult. I haven’t read many of Alex’s books but I really want to start as this one was a cracker. I loved it very much and want to find out more about all these lovely characters.

Unravelling Oliver By Liz Nugent

Unravelling Oliver By Liz Nugent

oliver.jpg

Oliver Ryan is a handsome and charismatic success story. He lives in the suburbs with his wife, Alice, who illustrates his award-winning children’s books and gives him her unstinting devotion. Their life together is one of enviable privilege and ease – enviable until, one evening after supper, Oliver attacks Alice and beats her into a coma.

In the aftermath, as everyone tries to make sense of his astonishing act of savagery, Oliver tells his story. So do those whose paths he has crossed over five decades. What unfolds is a story of shame, envy, breath-taking deception and masterful manipulation.

Only Oliver knows the lengths to which he has had to go to get the life to which he felt entitled. But even he is in for a shock when the past catches up with him.

My Thoughts:

I have read a  few of Liz’s books now and I have thoroughly enjoyed them, this one I didn’t enjoy as much. There were a few things that were good like it was fast paced and well written but it kept on going back to the past and it was hard to keep up and to remember who is who and what their part in the story was. It is a short read though.

Summer at the Comfort Food Cafe By Debbie Johnson

Summer at the Comfort Food Cafe By Debbie Johnson

debbie johnson

The Comfort Food Cafe is perched on a windswept clifftop at what feels like the edge of the world, serving up the most delicious cream teas; beautifully baked breads, and carefully crafted cupcakes. For tourists and locals alike, the ramshackle cafe overlooking the beach is a beacon of laughter, companionship, and security – a place like no other; a place that offers friendship as a daily special, and where a hearty welcome is always on the menu.

For widowed mum-of-two Laura Walker, the decision to uproot her teenaged children and make the trek from Manchester to Dorset for the summer isn’t one she takes lightly, and it’s certainly not winning her any awards from her kids, Nate and Lizzie. Even her own parents think she’s gone mad.

Her new job at the cafe, and the hilarious people she meets there, give Laura the chance she needs to make new friends; to learn to be herself again, and – just possibly – to learn to love again as well.

For her, the Comfort Food Cafe doesn’t just serve food – it serves a second chance to live her life to the full…

My Thoughts:

You cannot get any more Summery than the front of this book, it has everything you want. Debbie Johnson is a new author to me and I thought I would give a couple of her books a try and I am so glad I did. This one is the perfect Summer read. I love the story line and I felt a warmth towards Laura who makes the decision to uproot her kids and go and work in a Cafe in Dorset. Expect lots of laughs along the way, I love the fact that they go to Dorset as I know it very well. I use to go the down there as a child and now my parents have gone to live down there I get to go there every month or so. I loved all the characters in this book and really didn’t want it to end.

Why Mummy Drinks By Gill Sims

Why Mummy Drinks By Gill Sims

why mummy drinks

It is Mummy’s 39th birthday. She is staring down the barrel of a future of people asking if she wants to come to their advanced yoga classes, and polite book clubs where everyone claims to be tiddly after a glass of Pinot Grigio and says things like ‘Oooh gosh, are you having another glass?’

But Mummy does not want to go quietly into that good night of women with sensible haircuts who ‘live for their children’ and stand in the playground trying to trump each other with their offspring’s extracurricular activities and achievements, and boasting about their latest holidays.

Instead, she clutches a large glass of wine, muttering ‘FML’ over and over again. Until she remembers the gem of an idea she’s had…

My Thoughts:

If you are after a really funny book this is the one for you. I took this book on holiday with me and got some really funny looks for laughing, but I did manage to recommend it to a few women too. This is the first book and the second book why mummy swears is just as hilarious, as I said about why mummy swears you don’t have to be a mum to understand what mummy goes through. I am already looking forward to the next book, this one really cheered me up. Loved it.

Her Name Was Rose By Claire Allan

Her Name Was Rose By Claire Allan

rose

Her name was Rose. You watched her die. And her death has created a vacancy.

And then she makes a decision she can never take back.

But as Emily is about to discover, no one’s life is perfect … and not everything is as it seems.

My Thoughts:

I really enjoyed this book. I managed to read it within two days, I would of been quicker but I didn’t want it to end. It is a powerful thriller and it left me guessing till the very end. I love the fact that hidden details emerge through out the story as I feel we really get a good insight into the whole story. This is an author I would read again.

How would you feel if the only man you’d ever loved was taken away from you? And imagine how he’d feel if he hadn’t really been taken away at all – but couldn’t find a way to let you know…

Mel Taylor was thirteen years old when she found Adam. Twenty years on, they are still blissfully in love. She has everything she ever wished for. But Mel’s happiness is spoilt by a secret from their past and a niggling fear that her good fortune can’t last forever.

Despite her husband Adam’s efforts to reassure her that nothing bad is going to happen, Mel can’t shake the feeling that good things can’t last forever. But what she isn’t expecting, is something so terrible that their lives will be changed forever . . .

My Thoughts:

Having not read any of Linda’s books before I looked forward to read something different. I felt like I learnt a great deal about certain things that happen in this book. You will understand what I mean once you are reading it, I don’t want to give anything away. I love how each chapter is split between the wife and the husband. It deals with how Mel copes and also how Adam copes when their lives are changed forever. A really clever storyline and one that was well written.

Nate needs to show Sinead he can be a better husband – fast. But as he works through Sinead’s list, his life changes in unexpected ways. And he starts to wonder whether he wants them to go back to normal after all. Could there be more to life than nice?

My Thoughts:

I just want to start if by saying how lovely and vibrant the cover of this book is, the yellow really makes it stand out. Fiona Gibson’s books never fail to make me laugh and this one really did make me chuckle. Some parts of the story I really do feel for Sinead but then other parts I really feel for Nate, marriage is a hard thing but if you work together then it becomes a lot more easier. I like how the chapters were even husband or wife and at the end we get their son’s version. A really warm, witty and funny read.

Stalker By Lisa Stone

Stalker By Lisa Stone

Someone is always watching…

Derek Flint is a loner. He lives with his mother and spends his
evenings watching his clients on the CCTV cameras he has installed inside their homes. He likes their companionship – even if it’s through a screen.

When a series of crimes hits Derek’s neighbourhood, DC Beth Mayes begins to suspect he’s involved. How does he know so much about the victims’ lives? Why won’t he let anyone into his office? And what is his mother hiding in that strange, lonely house?

As the crimes become more violent, Beth must race against the clock to find out who is behind the attacks. Will she uncover the truth in time? And is Derek more dangerous than even she has guessed?

My Thoughts:

I found this book utterly creepy. I didn’t want to read it before bed. But I did enjoy it, the hairs on the back of my neck were raised wanting to know what would happen next. Even though I found it creepy I did really enjoy the storyline, it was quite unique and believable. The characters were very descriptive and imaginable too.
