Over fifty years have passed since Daleth the seemingly immortal Witch-King and his army conquered the Ember Kingdom.
Now, with the once fertile lands and its enslaved people dying around him, the Witch-King, driven by his insatiable thirst for eternal youth, prepares his forces to march on the prosperous neighbouring Freestates. It will be the beginnings of a conquest that could destroy nations, bringing death and destruction on an unimaginable scale.
Then, when a peasant huntress whose rare gift was concealed from birth is exposed, it sets in motion a chain of events that could alter the destiny of generations to come.
My Thoughts:
This is not my usual read but I really wanted to give it a try. I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed it. It is a mysterious story of Dark Knights and a Witch-King which is dark at times but more than I could ever imagine the book to be. Lots of different characters, some I liked, some I didn’t like, but only because this was how they were portrayed in the story as characters that you are not suppose to like. But all in all the story is set around a conquest which involves love, hope and humour which was really unexpected. As this was book one I am now intrigued to read book 2. I did enjoy the story but as it is not my preferred genre I have given it 4/5 stars.
I received an ARC copy of this book for an honest review.

Hallo, Hallo Hannah,
I was quite captured by this story myself recently – for the same reasons you’ve said – there is such a huge well of hope, love and humour running underneath the angst of the darker bits of this world that it was enough to keep me anchoured. And, like you, Dark Fantasy is a niche of Fantasy I do not regularly read and to find a lot of things to keep me settled into the world fascinated me. Esp as you said there are characters to love in this world and there are characters you don’t want to draw close to yourself as they truly are a step above and beyond being consumed by the darkness that has eroded away a lot of the Light!
