Hunting Abigail By Jeremy Costello

Hunting Abigail By Jeremy Costello

There is a killer stalking the streets of London, taunting the police and playing God with innocent lives. At ten years old, Abigail Fuller is the only one to have survived coming face-to-face with the monster the headlines are calling the “Valentine Killer.”

Almost two decades later and Abigail is one of a small group of survivors from a trans-Indian Ocean plane crash. Stranded on a remote island, strange and unexplainable events begin to roll through the dejected camp while the vast blue horizon shows no signs of a rescue.

Is the island not as deserted as the survivors thought? Or has Abigail’s past come hurtling into the present and the predator from her childhood stalks amongst them!

My Thoughts:

An outstanding story, I literally felt as though my heart was in the mouth reading this intense thriller. I couldn’t put it down. I physically couldn’t get enough of it, I liked everything about this story and more, I can’t wait for Jeremy’s next book. There are two stories that are cleverly woven together and the characters add to the fantastic heart stopping story that left me feeling drunk on a book. I have never felt like that before.

The Waffle house on the Pier By Tilly Tenant

The Waffle house on the Pier By Tilly Tenant

Run away to Sea Salt Bay, where the sand is warm and soft, the sea is a perfect blue, and a candy-coloured waffle house is about to change Sadie’s life…

For as long as she can remember, Sadie’s grandparents have run the waffle house on the pier at Sea Salt Bay. With its pretty painted chairs, sweet smells, and the warm advice of her beloved grandparents, the waffle house is like a second home.

But when Sadie’s grandfather dies, leaving her grandmother without an anchor, Sadie must make a difficult decision. She quits her job and moves back home, determined to keep things going. The trouble is, she knows nothing about running a business, and learning at a million miles an hour with a shop full of hungry people isn’t easy. When she nearly burns the waffle house down, she has to admit she needs to get some help.

Her ex-boyfriend Declan promises to be there for her but Sadie worries that getting too close is a mistake – especially as he has a new girlfriend now. And anyway she’s just met newcomer Luke, with his gorgeous suntan and mellow voice…

Sadie’s family have always loved Declan and they’re not too sure about Luke, leaving Sadie unsure which way to turn. A terrible accident at sea forces her to look into her heart, but what if it’s already too late to tell the right man that she loves him?

My Thoughts:

Every book I have read by Tilly, always brings a smile to my face. This story got even better when the word waffle house came into view. I liked the fact it was something a bit different from the norm and I am a huge lover of waffles so that helps too. This is Sadie and her families story where we see a devastating loss and the family has to decide what to do about the waffle house. I was expecting to hear more about the waffles but when you read the whole story you can see why. It is more about the family and how they cope with yet more heartbreak amongst other things. There is a little bit of romance in here too that made me smile. If you want to just get away for a bit, I would recommend this read.

Sunny Days and Sea Breezes By Carole Matthews

Sunny Days and Sea Breezes By Carole Matthews

sunny

Jodie Jackson is all at sea, in every sense.

On a ferry bound for the Isle of Wight, she’s leaving her London life, her career, and her husband behind. She’d like a chance to turn back the clocks, but she’ll settle for some peace and quiet on her brother Bill’s beautifully renovated houseboat, Sunny Days.

But from the moment Jodie steps aboard her new home, it’s clear she’ll struggle to keep herself to herself. If it isn’t Marilyn, who cleans for Bill and is under strict instructions to look after Jodie, then it’s Ned, the noisy sculptor on the next-door houseboat. Ned’s wood carving is hard on the ears, but it’s made up for by the fact that he’s rather easy on the eyes.

Bustled out of the boat by Marilyn and encouraged to explore with Ned, Jodie soon delights in her newfound freedom. But out of mind isn’t out of sight, and when her old life comes knocking Jodie is forced to face reality. Will she answer the call or choose a life filled with Sunny Days and Sea Breezes?

My Thoughts:

Doesn’t the cover make you just want to dive straight in? I certainly did when I got this book. From being a big fan of Carole’s books I couldn’t wait to jump in and it certainly does not disappoint. Her books bring comfort and joy to my heart, and the characters are very unique. I felt my heartstrings tug a little for Jodie as what she had been through must of been incredibly hard but written with sensitivity. I really warmed to Marilyn she shows what ever you have been through in your life, chin up and carry on and I love that about her. Wanting to know what she was wearing each day also bought a little smile to my face. Ned is lovely too, and sounds rather dishy, but you can’t have a Carole Matthews story without a dishy man can you. Another fabulous read from a brilliant author.

The Curious Touch of Cupid’s Son: An Erotic Comedy Between Two Consenting Demigods By Dave Diotalevi

The Curious Touch of Cupid’s Son: An Erotic Comedy Between Two Consenting Demigods By Dave Diotalevi

Karl Sparks knows everything about love except how to fall in it.

He also doesn’t know who his mother is, doesn’t know who his father is, doesn’t know why he has an obsession to define love, and doesn’t know why he can’t get an erection–nope, never had one.

What he does know it that his touch–however slight or incidental–rockets any woman into the most intense and dizzying orgasm or her life, whenever and wherever it launches (a Midas-touch curse he would do anything to be rid of).

Happens 100% of the time–that is until he literally bumps into Aurora (Rory) Sky, who does know who her mother is (she thinks). Karl’s touch has no effect on her, and to her surprise, the unnatural ability she’s always owned of infallibly controlling men through her verbal commands fails to faze Karl.

Her presence does give Karl his first erection.

She, unable to trust any of the men she mystically dominates, and he who can’t touch women–shouldn’t these two misfits who only fit each other find romance? Fall in love? Get intimate? Become lovers?

They discover secrets about themselves and each other in a series of laughably lusty adventures to find the three pieces of The God Prism, a mythic relic capable of lifting their cursed abilities.

The unwitting lovers’ passion deepens until it’s ultimately tested by a selfless choice of sacrifice and devotion.

My Thoughts:

This book comes with a warning for mature and fun loving adults over the age of 18. I didn’t know what to expect when being asked to read and review this book. I knew it would a romantic comedy with naughtiness if you get what I am saying but it was a book that made me blush quite a few times, it is a very erotic read which I don’t normally go for I just liked that it was a romantic comedy. It is a pretty funny story line involving Karl, when he touches women they orgasm, he goes on a pretty intense but really funny journey. I think some people would be put off by the amount of erotic content, put that aside the story was funny and silly that is what made me read on.

What Made Me Get Into Book Blogging And A Little About Me.

What Made Me Get Into Book Blogging And A Little About Me.

So I started book blogging about 6 years ago and have never looked back. I have always read ever since I was a child, I loved going to to library and choosing my books and then going home to my quiet room and getting myself lost in the adventures of what ever book I was reading at the time. I always remembered growing up I liked series which including the famous five and Animal Ark books by Lucy Daniels, I was a huge animal lover and still am now. Last year I actually re read the Animal Ark books and enjoyed them immensely. Over the years I have struggled with my health and book blogging was a way for me to do something I love but also have a bit of a purpose. I don’t get paid for it but who does? I feel as though the very kind author or publisher that has gone out of their way to send me the book is more than enough and I am very grateful for all the books and e copies I get sent. I feel as though that is my payment.

I started out with a basic blog here on wordpress and met a fellow book blogger who actually sent me my first book to review which was a book I would of never picked up before. It was one of Louise Candlish’s books and I have to say now she is one of my favourite authors. My sister in Law also used to have a book blog and she recommends books to me all the time and loves reading just as much as I do. I love writing my reviews as it gives the books a visibility and gives the author a greater chance of being seen by more readers. Writing a review can be hard as you have to be critical but then you don’t want to be nasty. If I don’t like a book doesn’t mean someone will not like it too, all reviews are my own. I choose books I want to read and don’t ever choose the ones I know I won’t like. I haven’t had too many books thankfully that I haven’t been able to finish.

Over the last six years I have built my website up, there are always things to be done with it but I like the way it looks at the moment and people have messaged me saying they love it. My husband actually was the one who thought of the name echoesinanemptyroom and I absolutely love it, I love a quiet space to read and this just fitted perfectly. So thumbs up to my husband. I read and review books for different authors and publishers some being Avon, Harper Collins, Bonnier Zaffre and Lovereading. My biggest achievements are I am a Lovereading Ambassador and I have had my review quotes in seven books ( so look out for me if you ever purchase a book) I am extremely proud of that.

With lockdown at the moment, quite a few publishers are not sending books out which I completely understand, so I have resorted to using my kindle, bearing in mind I wasn’t keen to use the kindle I actually really don’t mind using it now. I have set myself up on netgalley and I have to say some of the books on there have been absolutely brilliant.

I love it when an author or publisher emails me to ask me if I would love to read and review a certain books, it makes book blogging all the more worthwhile and it makes me feel as though I am doing a good job. Getting different types of genres has been an eye opener for me too as I would never of picked up say like a psychological thriller in the past and now I cannot get enough of them, so it is definitely worth going out of your comfort zone and choosing a genre you have never read before, you may not like it but you might as well give it a try.

I just want to say that I am most grateful to the wonderful authors and publishers that send me books and even though my health still is not great, book blogging gives me a purpose and a sense of achievement.

Hope you enjoyed getting to me a little bit and Thanks for reading and if you want to leave a comment please feel free to.

The Split By Sharon Bolton

The Split By Sharon Bolton

SHE’S GOT NOWHERE LEFT TO HIDE.

A year ago, in desperation, Felicity Lloyd signed up for a lengthy research trip to the remote island of South Georgia. It was her only way to escape.

AND NOW HE’S COMING FOR HER.

Freddie Lloyd has served time for murder. Out at last, he’s on her trail. And this time, he won’t stop until he finds her.

BECAUSE NO MATTER HOW FAR YOU RUN, SOME SECRETS WILL ALWAYS CATCH UP WITH YOU…

My Thoughts:

I have enjoyed every Sharon Bolton book I have read before and this one was just as good. This is the story of Felicity, the reader is drawn in straight away with her job to go to a remote island in the Antarctic. Reading about this place and what Felicity has to do to prepare I found fascinating. Sharon has clearly done lots of research as the whole story is packed with some interesting information. Felicity wants to get as far away as possible as she is scared someone will find her but who? The second part of this book is nine months earlier and we learn Felicity’s back story and that is where the story leads onwards, the characters are bought to life and you can really imagine their thoughts and feelings. The plot was good and when you discover the twist it will blow your mind.

If Cats Could Talk…Would They Cry? By Anatoli Scholz

If Cats Could Talk…Would They Cry? By Anatoli Scholz

On the morning of the 17th, after a particularly sleepful night, Julie Galles woke up to find herself transformed into a cat. Still half asleep, she watched a set of ginger and white paws stretch out on the beige duvet cover and felt every inch of her body yearning for a good scratch.

She yawned and shook her head, a set of gray whiskers flickering in the corners of her eyes. Overcome by a sudden tedious thought, she took a gander around the room, followed by a relieved exhale on the note that nothing else had changed. Her little studio apartment was the same she had left it the night before…

My Thoughts:

I wanted to read this book as it intrigued me, the way a woman called Julie wakes up as a cat, it is a unique story as I have never read anything like this before. I found it slightly weird but also intriguing, Julie goes on a mission as a cat to help her understand humans. I have a cat so every time I was reading this story I was looking at him wondering what he was thinking about. There are some nice illustrations in this book too which surprised me but in a good way as it breaks the story up a little. I would say it is quite a short story but one I have really thought about afterwards. Now I am always wondering what my cat is thinking.

Sirens By Joseph Knox

Sirens By Joseph Knox

I stopped going to work. I went missing. We still live in a world where you can disappear if you want to. Or even if you don’t.

Detective Aidan Waits is in trouble

After a career-ending mistake, he’s forced into a nightmare undercover operation that his superiors don’t expect him to survive.

Isabelle Rossiter has run away again

When the teenage daughter of a prominent MP joins Zain Carver, the enigmatic criminal who Waits is investigating, everything changes.

A single mother, missing for a decade

Carver is a mesmerising figure who lures young women into his orbit – young women who have a bad habit of disappearing. Soon Waits is cut loose by the police, stalked by an unseen killer and dangerously attracted to the wrong woman.

How can he save the girl, when he can’t even save himself?

My Thoughts:

So this story is about Aidan Waits who is a police officer gone bad. He is tasked at finding the local MP’s daughter who has gone missing but the MP wants to keep it quiet. Why? The start of the story is a little slow but we can gather much of our information here, the way Waits has become involved in the drugs world and other stuff about himself. I found it interesting learning about the drugs world and behind the scenes of the gangs that supply and deal them. I found this a dark and compulsive read and I can’t wait to read the next one.

I received an ARC copy of this book for an honest review. Thank you Joseph Knox for sending me a copy of your fantastic book.

How to save a life By S. D. Robertson

How to save a life By S. D. Robertson

You can’t have a rainbow, without a little rain…

When a stranger saves Luke’s life, he knows he’s been given a second chance. He’s going to make it count – and, determined to live each day to its fullest, he starts by saying yes to everything life has to offer.

Slowly but surely, Luke learns that a little bit of blue-sky thinking can go a long way, and things start to look up.

But when Luke’s new resolve is tested, will he return to his old ways? Or can one fateful moment truly save a life?

My Thoughts:

Like all of  S. D. Robertson’s books this was another powerful yet thought provoking story. This time about a guy called Luke, who is a bit of a grumpy old man, after a chance but harrowing encounter with a stranger he realises that things happen for a reason and tries to do good and mend his ways. I thought all the things Luke did were very courageous and how people helped him warmed my heart. This book will show you that it is never to late to have a more positive attitude.I look forward to the next book.
