My Thoughts:

I loved the aesthetics of this cover, it makes me think of hot chocolate under a blanket getting all snuggly and reading. I liked the sound of the plot but for me it was not as good as I would of hoped for. The story is very predictable and nothing really happened. The only thing you feel reading it is autumnal. I think it would of been nice to know a little more about the other characters it may of made it a little bit more interesting. I have never read this author before but I don’t think I would be reaching for her other books any time soon unfortunately.

My Thoughts:

This is a story about three generations of women, who all go through life changing events. Minnie cannot understand why her mind is not working as well as it should be, the Alzheimer’s has taken hold of her and won’t let go. Minnie is Cat’s mother and Cat is struggling with seeing how Minnie is declining very quickly. Cat knows there is little that can be done but it is still so hard to see Minnie like this. Ruby is Cat’s daughter and with everything her mum is going through at the moment with her gran, can Ruby tell her mum about a big event that is going to change her life, but is this what Ruby wants? It was an interesting concept for a book but one that worked really well. You kind of get a different perspective for what all three women are going through. It was heart breaking reading about Minnie especially when it is a subject that is close to home. It is a relatable subject and I know one that many people are going through. It is a moving read.

My Thoughts:

Lili is still reeling about what happened to her best friend Em so when she decides to send a final message to her she does not expect a message back. Everything comes flooding back to Lili and she is holding out hope it really is Em, but when they arrange to meet she cannot believe what is going to happen, this is when she meets Dylan little does she know he is going through the same thing as she is. But as the pair bond together could they both help each other to heal the pain? I don’t think I have ever read any of Samantha’s books and I am really questioning myself why. This book literally took my breath away, I felt emotionally attached to the pair of them and couldn’t believe how much pain they both must be in. I loved the idea of the robin and it’s meaning especially when you have lost someone, it means a great deal when you see one. I just loved the connection between Lili and Dylan and how the story wrapped up in the end. This is definitely a winner in my eyes and a bit of a tearjerker too. I cannot wait to read more of Samantha’s books now.

When Sleeping Women Wake By Emma PeiYin

But when the Japanese army invade, the three women are scattered. Mingzhu is coerced into working for a Japanese captain. Qiang and Biyu escape the island, only to be forced into factory work then separated after an encounter with the East River Column Resistance fighters.

The longer the brutal occupation lasts, the more determined the women are to resist. And as war rages around the world, each is holding onto the hope that the other is alive.

My Thoughts:
This is a different kind of read for me, but I am trying to broaden my horizon with different genres. It is set in the 1940’s Hong Kong. It is all about the Tang Family who go to Honk Kong for a better life, each of them have their reasons, it was interesting to read about this era and how different it was back then especially for the country. It captivated me right from the beginning, it was not a book I thought I would enjoy as I thought it may be heavy going but I felt completely entranced by the story and the women who braved their souls. I also felt as though I learnt a great deal about this era. A fantastic and well thought out story.

My Thoughts:

This is a bit different to what I would normally read but I thought I would give it a go and I am glad I did. When Giles wakes up not knowing where he is and what has happened to him, he is alone and afraid, seeking reassurance and wanting to find out where his loved ones are he sets out to find anyone around. But this journey is not safe and their lives are in peril danger, can Giles figure out what has happened or is something else at play here? Professor Elizabeth Goodwin has made a massive discovery and it could really affect the world but nothing is what she thought would happen and God has thrown a spanner in its works. It was a powerful and thought provoking read that really did pull me in. I have never read a book that I was so mesmerised with, the writing was dark and detailed. It has really made me do a lot of thinking and this was an adventure and a half.

A Little Christmas Magic By Suzanne Rogerson

A father rushing to get home to his kids in time for Christmas.

My Thoughts:

This is a lovely festive short story collection, which made me feel warm inside. It is a great pick up and put down read that would make the perfect Christmas gift for someone or for yourself. The stories are all of different lengths but I enjoyed them all nonetheless and you get eight stories which was just fantastic amount. I love Suzanne’s previous books so was excited to read this one which was a bit different but very enjoyable. My Favourite was definitely A Christmas Toast. I look forward to see what Suzanne’s next book will be about. A perfect Christmas read.
