The Forgotten Village By Lorna Cook

1943: The world is at war, and the villagers of Tyneham are being asked to make one more sacrifice: to give their homes over to the British army. But on the eve of their departure, a terrible act will cause three of them to disappear forever.

2018: Melissa had hoped a break on the coast of Dorset would rekindle her stagnant relationship, but despite the idyllic scenery, it’s pushing her and Liam to the brink. When Melissa discovers a strange photograph of a woman who once lived in the forgotten local village of Tyneham, she becomes determined to find out more about her story. But Tyneham hides a terrible secret, and Melissa’s search for the truth will change her life in ways she never imagined possible.

My Thoughts:

I loved this book, I grew up going for holidays to Dorset so this meant a great to me. I use to go to Worbarrow Bay and Tyneham as a child but haven’t been back for a long time, but after reading this book I am definitely going to go back soon. It was really interesting  to know some of the history around it. The story has been cleverly written to bring the past and present together. Makes for a really good read.

I received an ARC copy of this book for an honest review.

Sunshine at the Comfort Food Cafe By Debbie Johnson

Sunshine at the Comfort Food Cafe By Debbie Johnson

My name is Willow Longville. I live in a village called Budbury on the stunning Dorset coast with my mum Lynnie, who sometimes forgets who I am. I’m a waitress at the Comfort Food Café, which is really so much more than a café … it’s my home.

For Willow, the ramshackle café overlooking the beach, together with its warm-hearted community, offers friendship as a daily special and always has a hearty welcome on the
menu. But when a handsome stranger blows in on a warm spring breeze, Willow soon realises that her quiet country life will be changed forever.

My Thoughts:

This is the latest book in the Comfort Food Cafe series, so we catch up on all the lovely characters. This story we focus on Willow who has to care for her mum who has a Alzheimers. I  really warmed to Willow and thought that she was amazing, that she looks after her mum and works two jobs. She is an inspiration. Another great read from a lovely author.

One Perfect Summer By Paige Toon

One Perfect Summer By Paige Toon

paige toon

A Dorset summer, a chance meeting, and Joe and Alice, both 18, fall into step as if they have known each other forever. But their idyll is shattered as quickly as it began. Joe leaves without warning; Alice heads off to Cambridge University and slowly picks up the pieces of her broken heart.

Years later, when she catches the attention of gorgeous, gifted, rich boy Lukas, Alice is carried along by his charm, swept up in his ambitious plans for a future together.

Until news of Joe reaches her once more, but he’s out of reach in a way that Alice could never have imagined. Life has moved on, the divide between them is now so great. Surely it is far too late to relive those perfect summer days of long ago?

My Thoughts:

Reading this reminded me of childhood where we use to go down to Dorset for our holidays. I like the fact that some of the places I grew up going to where in this book like Corfe Castle and the beaches. I was a bit too young to have a holiday romance but I remember having a crush on my neighbour’s son. It bought back some nice memories. Reading this book now I am actually in Dorset as I am having a mini break away and am staying with my mum and dad. Paige Toon is a brilliant author, she writes books that you can just pick up and put down, but then I never want to put down so I always read her books within a day.
