Always You and Me By Dani Atkins

Always You and Me By Dani Atkins

Then…

On the eve of her wedding to Adam, Lily’s best friend Josh unexpectedly walked out of her life, and she hasn’t seen him since.

Lily and Adam are blissfully happy, until he falls ill. As she cares for him in his final hours, Adam asks her to make a mysterious promise: to find Josh—and forgive them both.

This winter…

Tracking Josh down isn’t easy, but fate seems determined to bring them together. Cut off in his remote Scottish cabin by a fierce snowstorm, Lily and Josh explore their tangled feelings for each other, stretching back over the decades. But when she discovers the shocking reason behind Adam’s unexpected last wish, she’ll need to trust her heart completely…

Can Lily and Josh choose love—and find forgiveness and lasting happiness together?

My Thoughts:

Getting married to Adam was the best thing Lily could of done, but back then her best friend Josh walked away from her and never looked back. Unfortunately for Lily, Adam is gravely ill and in his final hours he asks Lily to go and find Josh. But that is the last thing Lily is thinking about right now. After she pulls herself together and decides to honour Adam’s wish, trying to find Josh is harder than she thought, when she eventually tracks him down he is none to pleased to see her, so many things went wrong back then, feelings were not admitted back then and how can they both ever recover? I have not read many of Dani’s books, there are some sensitive subjects touched on in this book, some may be too close to home for people to read about, relatable characters and a warmth reading this book. There are plenty of twists and turns and flitting back to the past and the future but it made for such a good read.

Sumptuous fillings, which can be as simple as fresh fruit with a sprinkling of sugar or some tasty cheese with slow-cooked onions, make all these recipes guaranteed crowd pleasers.

My Thoughts:

If you love a pie and want the recipes for some delicious sounding pies, this is the book for you. When I say I was salivating just reading through the different recipes and there are 55 of them, from savoury to sweet, I literally cannot wait to make to be honest with you most of them. Some of the recipes I have made before like shepherds pie and apple pie and I love cooking so this has given me something fun to try. I cannot wait to try the puff mince pies at Christmas time. I like this book as it has so many different recipes to try, it is an easy step by step guide on how to make the pie and the hand drawn pictures give it such a homely feel. Just something homemade can make such a difference to yourself or a loved one. It is a must have item for any cook in their kitchen. It has given me a boost to start baking again.

The Expanded Earth By Mikey Please

The Expanded Earth By Mikey Please

On a remote coastal path, Giles awakes in his new body to discover a world reshaped and magnified into a place of astounding abundance and deadly peril. Desperate to reconnect with his loved ones, he seeks the help of fellow survivors, and together they embark on a quest across the altered landscape. But as their journey unfolds, the more the question persists – are they still truly human, or has their reduction in size marked the beginning of a descent into savagery, an evolution into something other?

Elsewhere, one week earlier, Professor Elizabeth Goodwin makes a monumental discovery – God is alive and physically among us, but not in the form we’ve been taught to expect. As Goodwin prepares to make first contact with the omnipresent ocean-spanning creature, forces conspire in the wings, and the spectre of imminent catastrophe inches closer and closer still . . .

My Thoughts:

This is a bit different to what I would normally read but I thought I would give it a go and I am glad I did. When Giles wakes up not knowing where he is and what has happened to him, he is alone and afraid, seeking reassurance and wanting to find out where his loved ones are he sets out to find anyone around. But this journey is not safe and their lives are in peril danger, can Giles figure out what has happened or is something else at play here? Professor Elizabeth Goodwin has made a massive discovery and it could really affect the world but nothing is what she thought would happen and God has thrown a spanner in its works. It was a powerful and thought provoking read that really did pull me in. I have never read a book that I was so mesmerised with, the writing was dark and detailed. It has really made me do a lot of thinking and this was an adventure and a half.

Killer Potential By Hannah Deitch

Killer Potential By Hannah Deitch

A scholarship kid with straight As and massive potential, Evie Gordon always thought she was special, that she’d be someone.

But after graduating from an elite university, she finds herself drowning in debt and working as a private tutor to the children of Los Angeles’s super-rich.

Everything changes when Evie arrives at the Victor family’s lavish mansion for her weekly lesson to discover, not the bored teenager she excepted, but pure carnage: the bloody remains of Mr and Mrs Victor sullying their beautiful back garden, and a woman crying for help from within the walls of the house.

Within moments, Evie and the woman go from bystanders to suspects to fugitives.

Suddenly at the heart of a nation-wide manhunt, Evie finds that her mysterious companion, who refuses to speak, has quickly become the most important person in her upside-down life. Meanwhile, the press runs wild with Evie’s story – anointing her the new Charles Manson, a blood thirsty ninety-nine percenter looking to start a class war.

Evie is – finally and disastrously – someone.

My Thoughts:

I love the cover of this book, it is so bright and vibrant and the plot sounded really good too. Evie has done well in life so far, but after getting into university that is when things really start to hit rock bottom. Evie ends up working at as a private tutor for a wealthy family to get the money rolling in again. But when Evie turns up at the house, she cannot believe what she is seeing, a murder scene. But as Evie is caught up in it all as an innocent bystander the police have questions for her alongside another woman who was looking on. Can the pair make the police understand they had nothing to do with it. It was such a quirky and unusual story but I loved how the story unfolded. It had a murder, a mystery and two powerful women who weren’t going to let anyone tell them what to do. I loved it. Pure genuis.

Legacy of Lies By Lew Paper

Legacy of Lies By Lew Paper

As we approach the 50th anniversary of Jimmy Hoffa’s disappearance on that sultry afternoon in July 1975, Lew Paper has crafted a fast-paced historical thriller which raises new questions about the reasons for the abduction. The book commences with a startling premise: What if a private investigator had been hired to trail Hoffa in that summer of 1975 and saw him get in a car with three other men, all of whom the investigator knew from his prior experience with the FBI?

Would that investigator report what he knew to the FBI when he later learned Hoffa had been abducted-knowing the Mafia’s practice of eliminating witnesses to its crimes?

My Thoughts:

This was a very compelling thriller that involves the disappearance of Jimmy Hoffa many years ago. It was a story that I knew nothing about until I read this book but I liked how it was set out and caused me to think like how the investigator would. Even though I knew nothing about Jimmy I really found this book worth a read. Everyone says he was killed by members of an organised crime but this book goes into detail on if that was really true. It was a story that I found fascinating to explore unlike anything I have ever read but so interesting and factual. A great read.

My Thoughts:

I have to say how stunning the cover for this hardback is. It shimmers and really draws the eye in. This is such an emotional read with Lucy at the helm, many years ago, Lucy lost the love of her life and went through a really tough time so much so many years later not letting herself love again for fear of losing another person. It was a tough read and made me very teary in different parts of the story. I feel as though she is a brave woman and I hope this read helps people maybe going through the same thing that they are not alone. When she goes through a box of Gabe’s stuff, she realises that he had secrets of his own that he hid but Lucy goes on a journey to find out who the real Gabe was. A powerful read.

The 20 By Sam Holland

The 20 By Sam Holland

A shocking crime scene…
DCI Adam Bishop has never seen anything like it. Five murder victims – all with numbers written above their bodies. And the spray-painted daubs reveal a horrific truth: the killer is counting down…

A case that twists and turns…
When Dr Romilly Cole learns of the murders, they trigger memories of a traumatic past she has tried hard to forget. But getting involved with the case is a bad idea. She and Bishop have history – and working together could never end well.

A race against time to stop a killer…
Adam and Romilly soon realise the truth lies in a decades-old case, and only Romilly holds the key. But they must act quickly, because with every passing day, there are more victims. And as the numbers edge toward zero, the murders get closer to home…

My Thoughts:

This is my first book by Sam and I was intrigued as I have heard plenty of readers loving it. This book is part of a series and this is book two. But can be read as a standalone, DCI Adam Bishop is called into to investigate a case where there are five bodies but they all have something in common and Adam has to work out what that is and who the killer is before more bodies are uncovered. When he brings in Dr Romilly Cole, can they work together as they have history. It was a twisty thriller that set my pulse racing, was fast paced and had me on the edge of my seat. Fear gripped me.

Graffiti Girls By Elissa Soave

Graffiti Girls By Elissa Soave

Amy, Carole, Lenore and Susan have been best friends since school. Back then they couldn’t wait for the future, for the amazing lives they’d have.

But things haven’t worked out how they expected. Now in their forties, they’re fed up with being taken for granted by their families, being passed over for promotions at work and being told that they’re past their best. And they’re not going to go quietly anymore.

Fuelled by female rage and their charismatic leader Amy, the four embark on a campaign of graffiti in their hometown of Hamilton, scrawling feminist slogans on the walls of local buildings.

But is Hamilton ready for the feminist revolution the Graffiti Girls have in store?

My Thoughts:

This is a story about a group of women who have been friends since they were young. Now they are all older, they are all trying to do something different with their lives. They all need a reset, they all have their reasons for changing their lives and they all could be relatable issues for the reader to connect with. I was not sure what to expect with this book, but it is full of warmth, laughs and most of all the very best of friendship. It captivated me all the way through and I warmed to all of the characters. A great read.

The Dinner Party By R. J. Parker

The Dinner Party By R. J. Parker

Eight friends. Eight secrets. One killer.

A group of old friends gather in a peaceful suburban street for a dinner party.

They are expecting a fun evening of wine, food and pleasant company. But then they start to play the game…

It’s about trust and dark secrets – it tests marriage to its limits – and none of them can begin to imagine its consequences.

Because the next day, two guests are dead and the others are trapped in a nightmare…

My Thoughts:

When eight friends get together for a dinner party, everything is going smooth until they start to play a game, Secrets, lies, betrayals all come out in this quirky and gripping thriller. When tragedy strikes the next day, is it all because of the dinner party? it has made me feel conscious of going to a dinner party now as you never know what will happen when people have more to drink than they probably should. It was a readable story but the ending was slow and went on a bit too much. I think the ending let it down.

My Thoughts:

Elijah comes across a young girl in the woods, where she has been kidnapped. But Elijah wants a friend and to have this new friend he must keep quiet about her. But this is not his first time in this woods, what happened to the girl before this girl? Sam is a new author to me, this was a creepy, tense story. There are plenty of twists and turns throughout, some of them made me jump. It was a very icy and chilling story but a few things did not make sense to me.
