She wants your life – and she’ll do anything to get it…

Erica has always wanted to be exactly like her neighbour, Faye: beautiful, thin, and a mother. But Faye’s life isn’t as perfect as it seems – she has a terrible secret, and slowly but surely, it is threatening to destroy her and everything she holds dear.

When Faye’s daughter Tamsin goes missing after school, the police turn to Erica. But is Erica the only one who has been enviously watching Faye? Or is there another threat hiding in the shadows…?

My Thoughts:

A dark and twisty plot that has you on the edge of your seat. The story was good but I managed to guess what was going to happen early on. Written well with each chapter being a different person which I liked.

Star Crossed By Minnie Darke

Star Crossed By Minnie Darke

star crossed.jpg

Destiny doesn’t happen by accident . . .

When Justine Carmichael (Sagittarius, aspiring journalist and sceptic) bumps into her teenage crush Nick Jordan (Aquarius, struggling actor and true believer) it could be by chance. Or it could be written in the stars.

Justine works at the Alexandria Park Star – and Nick, she now learns, relies on the magazine’s astrology column to guide him in life.

Looking for a way to get Nick’s attention, Justine has the idea of making a few small alterations to the horoscope for Aquarius before it goes to print.

After all, it’s only the stars. What could possibly go wrong?

My Thoughts:

Do you believe in  fate? well if you do then this is the book for you. Justine had a major crush on Nick in her teenage years, years later they bump into each by accident or was it? Nick loves the astrology column in a magazine so much so that he lets it show him what to do next in life, Justine works for that said magazine and decides sneakily to change a few things. A funny and warm read.

Seven strangers. Seven secrets. One deadly lie.

Someone’s going to sleep and never wake up…

My Thoughts:

You know when you read a book about a remote setting that your in for a creepy story and this one did not disappoint. I have read a plot like this before but the story was no where near as good as this one. Twists and turns at every available point keeps the reader on edge and then the ending was sublime. You can’t get much better than this. Another brilliant read from a fantastic author.

The characters are always relatable characters so you will always find something in common with one of them. I love the setting in Paris you really feel as though you are there. I just didn’t want the story to end.

Along with Thames Valley Police’s newest recruit, the handsome DS Pryce, Josie must act fast – and when two more students disappear from Oriel and Somerville colleges, she realises the killer is sending her a deadly message in a cruel game of cat and mouse. This time, the case is personal – but who is the perpetrator?

In a desperate race against the clock, Josie hunts for the kidnapper, and soon discovers he could be a lot closer to home than she’d ever thought…

My Thoughts:

A new author to me so wasn’t sure what to expect. I found the story quite realistic and a real page turner. I do love a police drama and when the suspect could be someone you know it gets even better. I didn’t guess what was coming and who the perpetrator was and for me that is what makes a brilliant thriller. I look forward to reading more by this author.

judy leigh

So when her brother-in-law makes his biggest mistake yet, Georgie sees the chance to reunite the ladies in her life. And after a little persuasion, three generations of Turner women head off on a very unusual road trip. Georgie’s confident that some sun, sea and a bottle or two of prosecco will make this an adventure they’ll never forget.

What could possibly go wrong?

My Thoughts:

I loved this book, the cover sets the book off beautiful. There are lots of lovely characters and some not so nice. I loved Nan, the way she just wants a bit of company and her love of food is warming. She might not say the right words sometimes but that is all part of her charm, you can tell she is very loving and caring. Some of the things the women get up to is hilarious, it made me chuckle a few times. A nice uplifting story.

Finding Stevie By Cathy Glass

Finding Stevie By Cathy Glass

stevie

Finding Stevie is a dark and poignant true story that highlights the dangers lurking on online.

When Stevie’s social worker tells Cathy, an experienced foster carer, that Stevie, 14, is gender fluid she isn’t sure what that term means and looks it up.

Stevie, together with his younger brother and sister, have been brought up by their grandparents as their mother is in prison. But the grandparents can no longer cope with Stevie’s behaviour so they place him in care.

Stevie is exploring his gender identity, and like many young people he spends time online. Cathy warns him about the dangers of talking to strangers online and advises him how to stay safe. When his younger siblings tell their grandmother that they have a secret they can’t tell, Cathy is worried. However, nothing could have prepared her for the truth when Stevie finally breaks down and confesses what he’s done.

My Thoughts:

This is the story of Stevie who comes into Cathy’s care after his behaviour at home gets out of control. It seems like a straightforward case but it really will stun you what Stevie has been up to. Cathy and her family do their very best to help him and you really get a sense of what young people may or may not be going through today.

With Or Without You By Shari Low

With Or Without You By Shari Low

shari low

Have you ever made a life-changing decision and then wondered if you made the right one…?

When Liv and Nate walked up the aisle, Liv knew she was marrying the one, her soul mate and her best friend. Six years later, it feels like routine and friendship is all they have left in common. What happened to the fun, the excitement, the lust, the love?

In the closing moments of 1999, Liv and Nate decide to go their separate ways, but at the last minute, Liv wavers. Should she stay or should she go?

Over the next twenty years we follow the parallel stories to discover if Liv’s life, heart and future have been better with Nate… Or without him?

My Thoughts:

What a cleverly written book. Should Liv stay with Nate or be without him. The first half of the book is written what happened without him and the second half is what happened if she stayed with him. It is very interesting how this story goes and also how it works out in the end. It is a big decision to make and very hard I am sure.
