The Last Time I Saw Him By Rachel Abbott

The Last Time I Saw Him By Rachel Abbott

Celia, Juliette and Nadia are complete strangers with one thing in common: they have all been wronged by Ellis Cobain. A wealthy philanthropist on course for a knighthood, Ellis’ public persona is bulletproof – but lurking beneath this veneer is a sinister side that only the women closest to him have seen.

When they meet at a boutique hotel on the Cornish coast, brought together by the blind arrogance of their tormentor, they realise what connects them and form a pact to free themselves from his grasp.

But when a body is discovered they are left scrambling, desperate to cover their tracks. This was never part of the plan.

Will they keep each other’s secrets, or will they turn on each other, not knowing if one of them could be next?

My Thoughts:

This is the fourth book in the Stephanie King Series and I have not read the previous books in this series. This one is about a wealthy philanthropist who has wronged a few women in his time now they are out for revenge but then he is found dead but was it one of these women? this story is packed with lies, deceit, betrayals and revenge. It was an ok read, easy to follow along with, a bit slow in places and I did not really gel with any of the characters but wanted to know the outcome. I found all of the women suspicious and any of them could of done it but was shocked with the outcome. I feel as though I would not go back in the series to read the previous books though.

Murder on the Christmas Express By Alexandra Benedict

Murder on the Christmas Express By Alexandra Benedict

CAN YOU SOLVE THE CASE?

Eighteen passengers. Seven stops. One killer.

In the early hours of Christmas Eve, the sleeper train to the Highlands is derailed, along with the festive plans of its travellers. With the train stuck in snow in the middle of nowhere, a killer stalks its carriages, picking off passengers one by one. Those who sleep on the sleeper train may never wake again.

Can former Met detective Roz Parker find the killer before they kill again?

My Thoughts:

I love this type of whodunit read, I must say I absolutely love the front cover of this book the design is really cool. Eighteen passengers on a train and one person gets murdered but whodunit? We get to know all the characters first off and there are a few red herrings and twists that were not expected. Roz Parker is the one to work out who the killer is and if they will kill again and I really liked working alongside her to work out who the killer was. Some of the characters were likeable and some not so much so was a great mixture. It was a book I didn’t want to put down, but wanted to savour it too. I loved it and the ending was so good.

The Christmas Appeal By Janice Hallett

The Christmas Appeal By Janice Hallett

One dead Santa. A town full of suspects. Will you discover the truth?

Christmas in Lower Lockwood, and the Fairway Players are busy rehearsing their festive pantomime, Jack and the Beanstalk. But there’s not much good will among the amateur dramatics enthusiasts. Sarah-Jane is fending off threats to her new position as Chair, the beanstalk might be full of asbestos, and someone is trying to ruin the panto before the curtain even goes up.

Plus, there’s the small matter of the dead Santa. Who had the victim on their naughty list? Read the round robins, examine the emails and pore over the police transcripts to discover the truth. Will the show go on?

My Thoughts:

The book is set around Christmas time where in a village a festive panto is being rehearsed for the big day. But so many things that could go wrong do go wrong. And to top it all off what has happened to Santa? He has ben found dead and the police have to piece together whodunit. Janice is a new author to me and I really enjoyed this read, I cannot wait to read more of her books. I love the mix of characters and I was not expecting it to be as funny as it was, it really surprised me how good this book was.

Miss Beeton’s Murder Agency By Josie Lloyd

Miss Beeton’s Murder Agency By Josie Lloyd

Alice Beeton never meant to wind up single and childless on the wrong side of fifty. Like her distant relative Mrs Beeton – yes, that Mrs Beeton – she had hoped to have her own spic-and-span household by now. In reality, she lives in an immaculate but dingy basement flat in a rather shabby block in Kensington with Agatha, her fiercely intelligent, if rather over-territorial, corgi-Jack Russell cross.

Now Alice runs the Good Household Management Agency, providing discreet domestic staff to extravagant townhouses and sprawling country piles. So when Camille Messent calls in urgent need of a new housekeeper, Miss Beeton sends out new hire Enya. She’s rather forward but she does come with impeccable references and is fluent en français.

But in the early hours of New Year’s Day, Alice is rudely awakened with the news that Enya has been found dead. As the intriguing, if somewhat scruffy, Detective Rigby struggles to drum up an adequate investigation and the wealthy family and their party guests close rank, Miss Beeton takes it upon herself to solve the crime…

My Thoughts:

I loved the cover of this book, to me it looks like a cosy murder mystery and I could not wait to snuggle up and start reading. The story is about Alice Beeton, she runs an agency where her staff go into rich people’s houses and clean for them. But when Alice employs a new member of staff Enya. Little does Alice know she will be getting a phone call to say Enya has ended up dead after Alice had sent her off to clean a house. Alice is determined to set out and find out what happened to Enya. With Alice’s side kick by her side Agatha who is her dog can the pair solve the crime? This is what I call a cosy murder mystery at it’s best, I loved all the characters and the story made me feel all warm inside. I really hope Alice’s story continues into another book as it would be most delightful to catch up with her again.

A SHOCKING DISCOVERY.
A COMMUNITY WRAPPED IN SECRETS.

A tiny island community is stunned by the discovery of a long-buried body.

For Stella Harvey the news is doubly shocking. The body has been found in the garden of her childhood home – the home her family fled without explanation twenty-five years ago.

Now, questioning her past and desperate to unearth the truth, Stella returns to the isolated island. But she quickly finds that the community she left isn’t as welcoming as she remembers – and that people in it will go to any length to protect their secrets.

One thing rings true…
You can’t bury the truth forever.

My Thoughts:

I like how this book is divided up into the past and present. Stella returns to her family home after a very long time after a body is found near to where she grew up. The residents are not keen to see her and she wonders what they are hiding. A very well written story with believable characters set on a tiny island.
