My Thoughts:

I have always enjoyed reading a book by Claire Allan, I think they keep getting better and better her books, this one was brilliant. I was hooked from the first chapter, it has just the right level of tension that builds up with a good pace. It sent shivers down my arms and a level of unease reading it, I wanted to devour the whole thing right away but then wanted to saviour the story. Claire has a way with her words that keep you guessing and she leaves the reader with a hint of intrigue as you never really know what will happen next. I loved the story line and it had some fantastic twists, I look forward to reading Claire’s next book.

Impossible By Sarah Lotz

Impossible By Sarah Lotz

Nick: Failed writer. Failed husband. Dog owner.

Bee: Serial dater. Dress maker. Pringles enthusiast.

One day, their paths cross over a misdirected email. The connection is instant, electric. They feel like they’ve known each other all their lives.

Nick buys a new suit, gets on a train. Bee steps away from her desk, sets off to meet him under the clock at Euston station.

Think you know how the rest of the story goes? They did too . . .

But this is a story with more twists than most. This is Impossible.

My Thoughts:

This is definitely going to be in my top ten of this year. It was absolutely brilliant. It was a different kind of love story and very unique that is why I loved it so much. The two main characters are Bee and Nick, they speak over a misread email and then things kick off from there, but as they continue these emails is there more of a connection for the both of them. The only problem is they have never met or seen each other? what harm could it do to meet up? It was fate that brought them together but will fate be on their side when they meet? it was a rather entertaining and witty read that I read in a couple of days. There is so much suspense and you never really know what is going to happen in the next chapter so you feel compelled to read on. I think everyone should be raving about this book as it is just brilliant.

Because the biggest secrets in the room are still hidden, and it’s no longer simply a marriage that’s in danger. Not all of them are who they seem, and matters are about to turn deadly…

My Thoughts:

The Golden Couple is such a compelling read that you don’t want to put it down. I liked the pace of this thriller, it had everything a thriller needs to have to make it brilliant. I felt as though it was a cat and mouse game which intrigued me and I couldn’t wait to see the outcome. The characters are all brilliant, I liked getting to know them to see who I could trust. There are a few twists that popped up and surprised me, the ending was fantastic and wraps everything up incredibly well.

The Auction ( A DCI Steve Burt Mystery) By John Reid

The Auction ( A DCI Steve Burt Mystery) By John Reid

In his latest murder investigation, DCI Steve Burt is drawn into the sleazy underbelly of London – gentlemen’s clubs and all – while tracking down a serial killer who is murdering young women and dumping their bodies soon afterwards.

Then the body of an American professor is found floating in the Thames, and the DCI and his team find themselves involved in another murder case – which is by no means a straightforward killing. In his search for answers, the DCI and his nearest and dearest are threatened as he uncovers police corruption at the highest level. As the investigation unfolds, links are discovered between murder, an attempt to auction a stolen formula for green energy, and unauthorised CIA activity in London.

This is DCI Steve Burt’s most complicated and most baffling case to date.

My Thoughts:

This is the first book I have read by John and it certainly won’t be the last. This book was fantastic and everything I love in a crime story. We follow DCI Steve Burt on his latest case, what I liked about this story is there a few plot lines running alongside each other and each one will keep you guessing. This book kept me on my toes and I loved the suspense and drama that is packed into the story along all the fantastic characters that we meet along the way. It has a great pace and I really liked the detective’s story. I am already looking forward to reading more of John’s books and the next instalment.

Everything is beautiful By Eleanor Ray

Everything is beautiful By Eleanor Ray

When Amy Ashton’s world fell apart eleven years ago, she started a collection.

Just a few keepsakes of happier times: some honeysuckle to remind herself of the boy she loved, a chipped china bird, an old terracotta pot . . . Things that others might throw away, but to Amy, represent a life that could have been.

Now her house is overflowing with the objects she loves – soon there’ll be no room for Amy at all. But when a family move in next door, a chance discovery unearths a mystery, and Amy’s carefully curated life begins to unravel. If she can find the courage to face her past, might the future she thought she’d lost still be hers for the taking?

My Thoughts:

This was such a great read, I warmed to Amy straight away and I felt as though I needed to be there to watch her life unfold. I was captivated by the story as I have not read too many books about being a hoarder but this one fascinated me and I felt as though I learnt a great deal too. I think people will be able to sympathise with Amy when they get to know her story and why she hoards. It is such a beautiful story that the author has captured it very well. I loved it and will be reading it many more times in the future.

Run Rose Run By Dolly Parton and James Patterson

Run Rose Run By Dolly Parton and James Patterson

FIND A FUTURE. LOSE A PAST.

She’s a star on the rise, singing about the hard life behind her.

She’s also on the run.

Nashville is where she’s come to claim her destiny.

It’s also where the darkness she’s fled might find her. And destroy her . . .

RUN ROSE RUN: a story glittering with danger and desire.

My Thoughts:

If you really want an immersive experience, Dolly Parton has put 12 songs with this story. It was lovely to read a book where the story line was a bit different from the normal. Here we follow a young woman who is trying to chase her dreams, she has fled from her home and life and all she wants to do is sing. We see her trying everything she can do to get a spot on a stage to do what she loves to do best. Some people do not give her the time of day but then some do. Friends are formed and she is happy until something happens and it jeopardises everything, is she safe anymore? A truly great story that will keep you captivated with Rose’s story until the very end.

The Paris Apartment By Lucy Foley

The Paris Apartment By Lucy Foley

Welcome to No.12 rue des Amants

A beautiful old apartment block, far from the glittering lights of the Eiffel Tower and the bustling banks of the Seine.

Where nothing goes unseen, and everyone has a story to unlock.

The watchful concierge
The scorned lover
The prying journalist
The naïve student
The unwanted guest

There was a murder here last night.
A mystery lies behind the door of apartment three.

Who holds the key?

My Thoughts:

This was such a thrilling read, I have read one of Lucy’s books and really enjoyed it. So I was looking forward to reading this one and it didn’t disappoint. The story is set in an apartment in Paris, there are plenty of suspicious characters with their own stories to tell, but when something really bad happens there, who saw it and who did it? mysteries, lies and suspicions bring this cleverly thought out book to life. I didn’t know what I was going to come across and was shocked by the ending, each chapter leaves you wanting a little bit more and I couldn’t put the book down.

A Wedding in Provence By Katie Fforde

A Wedding in Provence By Katie Fforde

Late summer, 1963

Fresh from London and a recent cookery course, Alexandra has always loved a challenge.

Which is why she now finds herself standing outside an imposing chateau in Provence.

Waiting for her inside is three silent, rather hostile children who are to be her charges for the next month.

They will soon be more friendly, she tells herself. All they need is some fun, good food and an English education.

Far more of a challenge though is their father – an impossibly good looking French count with whom she is rapidly falling in love . . .

My Thoughts:

I have not read many books by Katie but I thoroughly enjoyed this one, I felt as though it was an easy and fun read that had lots packed into it. The main character is called Alexandra who after finishing a cookery course heads to France where she finds a job being a nanny to three children, at first they are hostile to her but she soon gets them to open up to her and it was lovely to see that blossom. I liked how the book was written it had a chatty feel to it which I liked, I liked Alexandra, I felt as though she was a strong women that people could look up to. When the father returns to his children we then see romance sizzle between him and Alexandra and I was really hoping she would get her happy ever after as she is such a great nanny and person. I really enjoyed reading this book and look forward to reading more by Katie in the future.

Moonlight and the Pearler’s Daughter By Lizzie Pook

Moonlight and the Pearler’s Daughter By Lizzie Pook

1886, BANNIN BAY, AUSTRALIA.

The Brightwell family has sailed from England to make their new home in Western Australia. Ten-year-old Eliza knows little of what awaits them on these shores beyond shining pearls and shells like soup plates – the things her father has promised will make their fortune.

~~~
Ten years later and Charles Brightwell, now the bay’s most prolific pearler, goes missing from his ship while out at sea. Whispers from the townsfolk suggest mutiny and murder, but headstrong Eliza, convinced there is more to the story, refuses to believe her father is dead.
It falls to her to ask the questions no one else dares consider. But in a town teeming with corruption, prejudice and blackmail, Eliza soon learns that the truth can cost more than pearls, and she must decide just how much she is willing to pay – and how far she is willing to go – to find it . . .
My Thoughts:
I didn’t know much about this subject before reading this book, and I found it a real eye opener but an interesting and engaging one. It is set in 1886 in Australia and Eliza’s father who is well known and a very good Pearler, is coming back from sea but only for Eliza to realise he has gone missing. Eliza sets out on a journey to discover what really happened to her father. The cover of this book is absolutely stunning, it is like a pearl and beautifully iridescent, the story is a good one, it is gritty and raw and you wonder what lengths headstrong Eliza will go through to know the truth. I feel as though I learnt things I never knew about being a Pearler and what is involved so I think it is a very knowledgeable book, the author has clearly done a lot of research. I feel as though I will not forget this book in a hurry.
In a town where everyone knows everyone – but they all have secrets – the killer is certain to be close to home…
My Thoughts:
I thoroughly enjoyed this fast paced thriller that has lots of twists and turns. It is written by two authors which is unique in itself but really works. The story is a great one with lots of tense parts and also parts that will make you on edge. I couldn’t read this one before bedtime as it is very dark and creepy, even the cover creeped me out a little. The twists just keep coming, I think half of this book I was left open mouthed thinking did I really just read that. It all comes to a close at a dramatic ending. I look forward to reading more books by these two authors.
