The Next To Die ( A Dylan Kaspar Thriller) By Elliot Sweeney

The Next To Die ( A Dylan Kaspar Thriller) By Elliot Sweeney

Dylan Kasper is stuck. Living in self-imposed reclusion from his former life in the police, he’s been in a downward spiral since his daughter’s death five years ago.

All that changes when the son of an esteemed professor jumps under an inner-city train. His former colleagues call it suicide, but Kasper knows different. This has all happened before – to him, and his dead daughter.

Taking on the investigation himself, Kasper soon realises the terrible trouble young Tommy had found himself in. With nowhere to run, he thought suicide was the only way to keep his family safe.

But before long, Kasper’s investigation makes him target number one. Can he keep his demons in check and stay alive long enough to bring those responsible to justice?

My Thoughts:

This story is all about Dylan Kasper and his life, he used to be in the police and has really had a tough life after losing his daughter a few years back. But when he meets Tommy his life changes and when tragedy strikes he decides to investigate and finds out something truly shocking. It started off slow but then the pace picked up and kept me guessing after each chapter what would happen next. I read this book in a day and just didn’t want to put it down. This was such a fantastic read and I just found out it is a debut novel, This is an author who everyone needs to keep on their radar.

The Only Suspect By Louise Candlish

The Only Suspect By Louise Candlish

There’s the obvious story. And then there’s the truth.

Alex lives a comfortable life with his wife Beth in the leafy suburb of Silver Vale. Fine, so he’s not the most outgoing guy on the street, he prefers to keep himself to himself, but he’s a good husband and an easy-going neighbour.

That’s until Beth announces the creation of a nature trail on a local site that’s been disused for decades and suddenly Alex is a changed man. Now he’s always watching. Questioning. Struggling to hide his dread . . .

As the landscapers get to work, a secret threatens to surface from years ago, back in Alex’s twenties when he got entangled with a seductive young woman called Marina, who threw both their lives into turmoil.

And who sparked a police hunt for a murder suspect that was never quite what it seemed.

And it still isn’t.

My Thoughts:

Louise’s books always have a way of pulling the reader in from the first page and this book was exactly the same. I liked the sound of the plot and I couldn’t wait to be captivated by this intriguing sounding story. I was excited to learn more about the residents in Silver Vale and why after a nature trail on a local site is being made why all of a sudden is Alex started to become shifty and unlike himself. What does he have to hide? we see the story unravelling and Alex becoming more fret through out the rest of the story. I was enthralled with this story and did not want to put it down. With Louise’s books you can always expect a top notch thriller that will pull you in.

Champagne At Seven By Toni Glickman ( Bitches of Fifth Avenue

Champagne At Seven By Toni Glickman ( Bitches of Fifth Avenue

Olivia Wyatt, a mid-40s, rich Washingtonian who beautifully plays the part of mother, socialite, philanthropist, wife, and Stepford cut-out doll in the chardonnay and whiskey-wrapped superficial world in which she lives. Her exclusive last minute D.C. dinner party didn’t quite end how she had anticipated. Tragic news was served up late night instead of her planned dessert of luscious and blissful black forest cake. Olivia and her daughter, Gwynnie, suddenly need to rebuild their lives—and themselves.

Olivia reluctantly moves from her Georgetown high society personal battlefield back to New York City, and is on the prowl for work, only to find herself fighting in the trenches of a new, more intense luxury retail sales war. She dodges designer landmines in her new job as a high-end personal shopper—which only catapults her into a fifth gear spin cycle of anxiety, insanity and toxicity. She is now working alongside Bitches of Fifth Avenue in a gut-wrenching and nerve-wracking struggle to maintain her sanity, and her bank account. Olivia needs to find her way, and fast, before she loses her mind—and her job.

My Thoughts:

I normally tend to stay away from this kind of read but I decided to give it a go and I am glad I did. I thought it was not bad. We meet Olivia who is a woman of many talents and being rich helps. We get to see the behind the scenes of the fashion world. There were many cringy moments but also some funny parts too which helped. With the descriptions that the author Toni provided you can really get a sense of each other characters. It was not a bad read but one that I would question if I would read again.

My Thoughts:

Another of Colleen’s books that I was a big fan of. I love how Colleen’s books always transports me to another world, I don’t have to think about my current situation, I can read about someone else’s world. This book was about Auburn and she is having a really tough time, she has lost the most important person in her life but she wants to prove to herself and everyone that she can be a good role model. It is a tough situation for her but when she stumbles across a art studio she meets Owen, the click the moment they set eyes on each other but Owen has a secret and it could jeopardise them being together, will he confess. Such a good read. Would highly recommend.

Bobby and Bubba’s Small Adventure By Anthony Coombs

Bobby and Bubba’s Small Adventure By Anthony Coombs

The biggest celebrity cult since ‘Made in Chelsea’Bob Marley and Roman Abramovich, the two brothers have already appeared on TV, magazines and their own Instagram page without letting on just how really naughty they are.

These are their little stories…written for children of all ages, particularly if you’re a parent looking for a way to break the vice-like grip of the iPhone and the internet on growing minds. They’re lovable, funny, poignant and even a tiny bit exciting – much like Bobby and Bubba themselves. Hope you love them as much as we all do!

My Thoughts:

This was such a lovely story about two British Bulldogs called Bobby and Bubba, they really made me smile and laugh with things that they get up to. The reader gets a great insight into the world of two dogs and we can sense their taste of freedom and the naughty things they get up to. I don’t think this book is just for children as I thoroughly enjoyed it. I think it will teach children about the consequences of what they do but in a fun way. I loved these two very much.

The Chanteuse from Cape Town By John Constable

This gripping tale of intrigue and betrayal takes readers on a breakneck journey as Private Investigator Sol Nemo takes on South Africa’s underworld.

When rich but troubled PI, Sol Nemo, learns of the kidnap of his friend’s wife, he instinctively responds to the call for help. Little does he realise that he is soon to become embroiled in a dangerous web of deceit and betrayal. This intriguing tale of murder and revenge is set against the backdrop of South Africa’s breathtaking landscapes and the vibrant cities of Cape Town and Port Elizabeth. As the story unfolds, Sol is forced to wrestle with bouts of crippling anxiety, a cast of duplicitous characters, and an uncertain love life, while his mixed race heritage often leaves him straddling two different cultures and finding himself at home in neither.

My Thoughts:

I love reading books that are set somewhere completely different especially places like South Africa where I would love to visit one day. This is a crime fiction read that is set in South Africa with a very intriguing main character called Sol Nemo. I like how fast paced and involved I felt in this read, I liked how the story unfolded with a few turns. I liked getting to know Sol Nemo and I hope to see more of him in the future. I loved reading about the descriptions of such a beautiful place too.

I knew this was going to be a good thriller but I didn’t realise just how good it was going to be. Amanda is a new author to me, so I couldn’t wait to start reading it. I liked the sound of the plot and the book moved at a great pace for me. I didn’t want to put it down and I felt as though I was so caught up in the story and I couldn’t wait to see what the outcome would be. I felt as though I was on a thrilling ride throughout the story and then there is an almighty twist that you would of never seen coming. Wow is all I have to say about that. A Stolen Memory ( An Antonia Conti Thriller Book 2) By David Beckler

A Stolen Memory ( An Antonia Conti Thriller Book 2) By David Beckler

London, the near future. GRM, a shadowy company running private prisons, has introduced a programme to alter prisoners’ memories, removing those that led to their criminal behaviour. When journalist Antonia Conti hears rumours that the technology has deadly side effects, she decides to investigate.

Antonia has looked into GRM’s corrupt dealings with the government before, and when a stolen lorry ploughs into a whistle-blower’s car, leaving him dead and her trapped in the burning vehicle, she’s convinced GRM are responsible. Enlisting her old friend DI Russell Chapman to check out the supposed ‘accident’, she discovers that he’s already investigating three other deaths that appear suspiciously linked to her own investigations.

The deeper Antonia probes, the more her friends and colleagues are at risk. Whatever sinister experiments GRM are conducting, they are determined to keep them secret. By any means necessary. Can Antonia and Chapman thwart them before anyone else loses their life? Or their mind?

My Thoughts:

This is book two in the Antonia Conti thriller series, I kind of wished I had read the first book first as I would of got to know a little more about the characters but I chose to read book two first, it can be read as a standalone. I am looking forward to reading book one next so I can get the back story. I found Antonia relatable and realistic and the author David has written her well. I liked the short chapters it makes you want to read on and also I liked how fast paced the story is, it kept me on my toes wondering what Antonia was going to do next. I liked the mixture of characters and the story was really good. I look forward to reading more of the Antonia Conti thriller series. If you after a great series read these books.

Silence tore them apart. Can the truth bring them back together?

In 1960s Glasgow, anti-nuclear activists Judith and Jimmy fall in love. But their future hopes are dashed when their protestors’ squat is raided and many, including Jimmy, are sent to prison. Pregnant and with no word from Jimmy, Judith is forced to enter an unmarried mothers’ home, give up their baby and learn to live with her grief.

More than half a century later, Judith’s Mending Shop restores broken treasures, just as Judith herself has been bound back together by her late, much-missed partner, Catherine. But her tranquillity is shattered when Jimmy―so different and yet somehow the same―reappears, yearning to unpick the painful past.

Realising they each know only half of the other’s story, Jimmy and Judith finally break the silence that tore apart what might have been their family. Amid heartbreak and hope, how much can now be mended?

My Thoughts:

This was such a beautiful story about love and loss told in such a sympathetic and thoughtful way. It made me go through all the emotions and had some of the most unexpected twists I could ever have imagined. This is story telling at it’s best. I feel as though with this book I want to keep on revisiting it and to remember it in years to come. Many things happen in this book but it taught me how even with love and loss that we can be broken and mended in time. One story that will never leave me.

The Drift By C. J. Tudor

The Drift By C. J. Tudor

Survival can be murder . . .

Hannah awakens to carnage, all mangled metal and shattered glass. Evacuated from a secluded boarding school during a snowstorm, her coach careered off the road, trapping her with a handful of survivors.

Meg awakens to a gentle rocking. She’s in a cable car stranded high above snowy mountains, with five strangers and no memory of how they got on board.

Carter is gazing out of the window of an isolated ski chalet that he and his companions call home. As their generator begins to waver in the storm, the threat of something lurking in the chalet’s depths looms larger.

Outside, the storm rages. Inside each group, a killer lurks.

But who?

And will anyone make it out alive? . . .

My Thoughts:

This is the second book I have read of this C.J’s and I have to say this one was really good. It was full of action and had me on the edge of my seat the whole way through. It was tense and creepy even the cover is creepy. The chapters are all different people which I like as you get the perspective on the situation from not just one person. As you read on, you literally have no idea what is going to happen in the next chapter and my heart stopped a few times wondering what would happen. I think the story has been very cleverly written and I can’t wait for her next book.
