Maybe in Another Life By Taylor Jenkins Reid

Maybe in Another Life By Taylor Jenkins Reid

At the age of twenty-nine, Hannah Martin still has no idea what she wants to do with her life. She has lived in six different cities and held countless jobs since graduating college. On the heels of leaving another city, Hannah moves back to her hometown of Los Angeles and takes up residence with her best friend Gabby. Shortly after, Hannah goes out to a bar one night with Gabby and meets up with her high school boyfriend, Ethan.

Just after midnight, Gabby asks Hannah if she’s ready to go. A moment later, Ethan offers to give her a ride later if she wants to stay. Hannah hesitates. What happens if she leaves with Gabby? What happens if she leaves with Ethan?

In concurrent story lines, Hannah lives out the effects of each decision. Quickly, these parallel universes develop into radically different stories with large-scale consequences for Hannah, as well as the people around her. As the two alternate realities run their course, Maybe in Another Life raises questions about fate and true love: Is anything meant to be? Is there such a thing as a soul mate? Hannah believes there is. And, in both worlds, she’s found him.

My Thoughts:

I cannot get enough of Taylor’s books at the minute, this one was just so good. It is about Hannah and how her life changes when she goes back to her hometown, she is not happy where she is living so decides to go and live back home with her best mate. One night when they go out, Hannah sees her boyfriend from when she was at school, but is this fate and what does this mean for the future? Next we see two completely different storylines for Hannah’s future that run alongside each other. It was a very clever idea for a story and it worked really well. I enjoyed seeing what path Hannah could take for her future happiness. It was a really interesting concept and I really enjoyed reading it.

The Search Party By Hannah Richell

The Search Party By Hannah Richell

Five old friends.
One glamping weekend.
A storm that will change everything.

Max and Annie Kingsley have left the London rat race to set up a glamping site in the wilds of Cornwall. They invite old university friends – TV star Dominic, doctor and new mum Kira, and free-spirited Jim and Suze – and their children for a trial weekend but the reunion quickly veers off-course.
First, there’s The Incident around the campfire on the first night. The following afternoon, a storm quickly develops off the rugged North Coast. When one of their group goes missing, all hell breaks loose. And as the winds batter the bell-tents, emotions run high and tension mounts for all the characters.
Who is lying in hospital, who has gone missing and who is the body on the beach below the cliffs . . .?

My Thoughts:

Five friends go glamping but will they all go home at the end of the weekend? All the friends have their own lives and when they get together everything seems fine to start with and then something dreadful happens. They all have their own secrets and you can almost feel the tension between them. I could never of imagined what the outcome would be. It is a fast paced story that kept me on the edge of my seat. This was such a great thriller and one I would recommend. I will be looking out for more of Hannah’s books in the future now.

The Bad Weather Friend By Dean Koontz

The Bad Weather Friend By Dean Koontz

Benny Catspaw’s perpetually sunny disposition is tested when he loses his job, his reputation, his fiancée, and his favorite chair. He’s not paranoid. Someone is out to get him. He just doesn’t know who or why. Then Benny receives an inheritance from an uncle he’s never heard of: a giant crate and a video message. All will be well in time.

How strange―though it’s a blessing, his uncle promises. Stranger yet is what’s inside the crate. He’s a seven-foot-tall self-described “bad weather friend” named Spike whose mission is to help people who are just too good for this world. Spike will take care of it. He’ll find Benny’s enemies. He’ll deal with them. This might be satisfying if Spike wasn’t such a menacing presence with terrifying techniques of intimidation.

In the company of Spike and a fascinated young waitress-cum-PI-in-training named Harper, Benny plunges into a perilous high-speed adventure, the likes of which never would have crossed the mind of a decent guy like him.

My Thoughts:

Benny Catspaw is out of luck at the minute, he has lost his job and his fiancé and is just fed up with life right now. He knows there is someone out to get him and he cant shake off that feeling of being followed.
Benny’s luck changes when he inherits his uncles place but is it too good to be true? But when he finds a crate with his name on it, Benny could never of imagined what could be in there. Meet Spike, Benny’s new sidekick and together they will fight the world and go on great adventures together. I loved the name Benny Catspaw only because I have a cat called Benson and we call him Benny. It is my first book by Dean and I did find it hard to get into. The pace was steady to start with but does build up. It was a good strong read and I did love Spike.

The Wedding Of The Year By Jill Mansell

The Wedding Of The Year By Jill Mansell

It’s set to be a perfect day – until the chauffeur is asked to keep driving the bride around the church. This wedding definitely isn’t going as planned.

Lottie is a guest at the wedding when she sees Max. No kiss has ever matched the last one they shared fifteen years ago. They were on the brink of a beautiful love story, until a shocking event tore them apart. Now here he is, still ridiculously good-looking, teasing Lottie in the old way – and that overwhelming electric attraction is back. But Max is way out of bounds.

Freya owes Cameron everything. But she doesn’t love him. Which is a shame, because they’re about to be married.

Ruby has been the perfect wife. When she discovers the truth about her husband, her response is reckless and delicious. But after that, nothing will ever be the same again.

My Thoughts:

Freya is about to get married to Cameron but is it the right thing to do when she is not in love with him anymore, Lottie is one of the guests and when she sees someone she has not seen for a long time, will they be able to rekindle the love they both had for one another in the past. Ruby finds something out about the person most closest to her and cannot believe it but decides to do something for herself for once. You cannot go wrong with a book by Jill, she is such a great story teller and you really feel invested in the characters when you are reading it. Each of the women’s stories can be relatable to someone reading this book, it should give that person hope that one day things will be ok. It was a great story to enjoy. I loved it.

Random In Death: An Eve Dallas Thriller ( In Death 58) By J. D. Robb

Random In Death: An Eve Dallas Thriller ( In Death 58) By J. D. Robb

It’s the best night of her life. It’s the last night of her life.

Sixteen-year-old Jenna Harbough’s parents had finally given in, and there she was, at a New York club with her best friends, watching the legendary band Avenue A, carrying her demo in hopes of slipping it to the guitarist, Jake Kincade. Then, from the stage, Jake catches her eye, and smiles. It’s the best night of her life. It’s the last night of her life.

Minutes later, Jake’s in the alley getting some fresh air, and the girl from the dance floor comes stumbling out, sick and confused and deathly pale. He tries to help, but it’s no use. It’s time to call Lieutenant Eve Dallas.

Who could want this level-headed teen, passionate about her music, dead? Was she targeted or could she have been the victim of a random attack? And if she was, who’s next…..?

My Thoughts:

This is book 58 of 59 of the In Death Series, but can be read as a standalone. I have not read any of this authors books let alone any from this Series so I was going in blind. The story is centred around Jenna who is a sixteen year old girl who wants to make it in the music industry. So when her parents finally let her go to a club to watch one of her favourite bands, Jenna has other ideas and takes one of her demo tapes to give to one of the band members. It is the best night of her life until she is seen stumbling out of the club, looking very unwell. One of the band members Jake tries to help her but is of no use, so calls the police as something fishy is going on. And Eve Dallas is the one that is going to solve this mystery. It was a good well rounded story that has a level of intrigue to it, it is a great crime thriller with plenty of twists to keep the reader guessing. Even though I have not read any of the other series, I found that it didn’t matter and still enjoyed the story. I really like Eve Dallas, she is a strong independent woman who does not take any abuse from no one. I was like you go girl many times. A thoroughly enjoyable read.

The Guilty Couple By C. L. Taylor

The Guilty Couple By C. L. Taylor

What would you do if your husband framed you for murder?

Five years ago, Olivia Sutherland was convicted of plotting to murder her husband.

Now she’s finally free, Olivia has three goals. Repair her relationship with her daughter. Clear her name. And bring down her husband – the man who framed her.

Just how far is she willing to go to get what she wants? And how far will her husband go to stop her?

Because his lies run deeper than Olivia could ever have imagined – and this time it’s not her freedom that’s in jeopardy, but her life…

My Thoughts:

Olivia has been in Prison for something she claims she did not do. She was convicted for plotting to kill her husband but she wants justice and to find a way to bring her husband down and she will do whatever it takes. I really like C. L. Taylors writing style and the quick pace of it, I felt as though I didn’t want to stop reading. It had everything I love in a thriller, tension, twists and turns, OMG moments and a unforgettable ending. It will keep you guessing till the end. Such a good read and this kind of story would be great made into a TV Drama.

Together, the women feel stronger than ever before. So can their friendship help them face old fears and find happy endings – as well as new beginnings?

My Thoughts:

I feel as though I have not read one of Cathy’s books for ages but I am so glad I picked this one up. It is all about three women who all have different things in their lives that are not great at the moment but when they all meet on the beach, they would never know how much they would be able to help each other out. The bond is beautiful between all three women and reading the story I felt as though I was part of their team. It was such a perfect escape read with relatable topics. I love Cathy’s writing and it is a great feel good novel. I want to go to the beach and collect sea glass now and I really felt as though the story inspired me to get out there.

All is not Forgotten By Wendy Walker

All is not Forgotten By Wendy Walker

Since the night she was attacked, Jenny Kramer hasn’t been able to recall what happened. Her parents and the doctors saw to that. Her mother couldn’t prevent the terror in the woods, but she’s done all she can to stop it ruining Jenny’s life. The only thing that now bothers Jenny is the scar carved into her lower back. Which she can’t stop touching.

But if Jenny can’t remember her attacker, he can’t be caught. He could be the man next to her right now, the one who caught just her eye.

And he hasn’t forgotten anything

My Thoughts:

This is my second book by Wendy and I found this one was not for me. Jenny was attacked and she cannot remember what happened that night, Jenny has a lot of paranoia now when she goes out suspecting anyone looking at her thinking that is the person who attacked her. The only thing she has to remind her of her attack is the scar on her back. The plot for me sounded intriguing but I felt the story was quite long and you really had to concentrate. The subject was really not for me and I felt it was a bit too much for me. I felt as though it was very heavy going.

Born in a Burial Gown (Avison Fluke) Book One By M. W. Craven

Born in a Burial Gown (Avison Fluke) Book One By M. W. Craven

Detective Inspector Avison Fluke is a man on the edge. He has committed a crime to get back to work, concealed a debilitating illness and is about to be made homeless. Just as he thinks things can’t get any worse, the body of a young woman is found buried on a Cumbrian building site.

Shot once in the back of the head, it is a cold, calculated execution. When the post-mortem reveals she has gone to significant expense in disguising her appearance, Fluke knows this is no ordinary murder.

With the help of a psychotic ex-Para, a gangland leader and a woman more interested in maggots than people, Fluke must find out who she was and why she was murdered before he can even think about finding her killer…

My Thoughts:

This is the first book in the Avison Fluke Series, in this story DCI Avison Fluke first point of call is finding out why there is a young woman’s body buried in a building site. Who is she and why there? DCI Avison Fluke has to piece together what happened to this poor woman whilst also concealing a majr thing from his work colleagues. I love that these books are set in Cumbria as it is one of my favourite places, I can almost imagine I am there. The start of this book is a little slow but it gets better throughout, I liked Avison and felt he is a good character that is engaging and realistic. I felt sorry for him with what is going on in his personal life, I found that side of things relatable which made me enjoy the story even more. I would love this to become a TV Series or any of M. W. Cravens other books to be made in to a TV Series as they would be brilliant. Another great read.

For Any Other Truth – A DCI Daley Thriller) By Denzil Meyrick

For Any Other Truth – A DCI Daley Thriller) By Denzil Meyrick

When a light aircraft crash-lands at Machrie airport, DCI Jim Daley and his colleague Brian Scott rush to the scene. But it soon becomes clear that both occupants of the plane were dead before take-off …

Meanwhile in Kinloch, local fisherman Hamish is unwittingly dragged into danger when he witnesses something he shouldn’t, and hotel manager Annie is beginning to suspect her new boss may not be as he first appeared.

And just as Chief Superintendent Carrie Symington thinks she has finally escaped the sins of her past, she finds herself caught in an even deadlier trap.

As the action spills across the sea to County Antrim – all under the scrutiny of the Security Service – the search is on for any other truth.

My Thoughts:

This is the ninth book in The D. C. I Daley Series and my first book by this author. DCI Daley has got his work cut out in this book, he has to investigate how a light aircraft has crashed but the people inside were dead before it crashed, how so? this is what DCI Daley needs to work out. Also there are other things going on that need to be pieced together. It is full of suspense and intrigue, you don’t know who to trust, the ending was unexpected and I enjoyed it none of the less. This was a great Scottish Detective Crime Thriller. I need to go and read the other books now in the series.
