After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night cleaner shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium. Ever since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat over thirty years ago keeping busy has helped her cope. One night she meets Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium who sees everything, but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors – until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

My Thoughts:

When Tova starts working at the Aquarium, she doesn’t realise how much the place is going to be such a comfort to her especially Marcellus the octopus. Tova has been through a lot and after meeting Marcellus she knows everything will change for the better. It is kind of a bittersweet story as I could guess what the ending would be and it wrecked me. It was one of those stories that sounded good but I did not know if I would like the fact that every other chapter is Marcellus outlook. But I loved it so much. I loved Marcellus and I really felt for all that Tova had been through, it is one of those stories that will never leave me.
