Christmas at Mistletoe Cove By Holly Martin

Christmas at Mistletoe Cove By Holly Martin

christmas at mistletoe coer

Growing up on Hope Island, Eden Lancaster always believed that if you wished hard enough for something, dreams really could come true. But Eden’s greatest wish is also her biggest secret: she has been completely in love with her childhood friend, the charming and attractive Dougie Harrison, for as long as she can remember. And he has no idea.

When Dougie leaves his successful life in New York to return home to Hope Island for good, Eden can’t escape her feelings. Her heart is full of hope that her romantic dreams are finally, at long last, going to come true…

This Christmas could change everything. But can a lifelong friendship really turn into the perfect romance? And will Eden get the happily ever after she’s always wished for?

My Thoughts:

I thought to myself just one more Christmas read and this one was the perfect one to read. I didn’t want to put it down as I felt so engrossed in the story, which is about Eden and her childhood sweetheart Dougie, we see him returning to Hope Island and basically Eden still holds a flame for him and she doesn’t know that he loves her too, ask for a bit of magic and romance at Christmas time and you never know what you may get. I didn’t want this book to end, I wonder if there will be a follow on.

The Guestbook at Willow Cottage By Holly Martin

The Guestbook at Willow Cottage By Holly Martin

guestbook

As landlady of Willow Cottage, the young widow Annie Butterworth is always on hand with tea, sympathy or strong Norfolk cider – whatever her colourful array of guests require. A flick through the messages in the leather-bound cottage guestbook gives a tantalizing glimpse into the lives of everyone who passes through her doors.

This includes Annie herself – especially now celebrity crime writer Oliver Black, is back in town. He might grace the covers of gossip magazines with a different glamorous supermodel draped on his arm every week, but to Annie, he’s always just been Olly, the man who Annie shared her first kiss with.

Through the pages of the Guestbook Annie and Olly, along with all the guests that arrive at the seaside retreat, struggle with love, loss, mystery, joy, happiness, guilt…and the odd spot of naked rambling!

My Thoughts:

If you want a feel good read that is a little bit quirky then this is the book for you. It is a short read and I read it in a day. I love the idea that the story is told through out by people that come and stay at Annie’s cottage. Annie also writes in the guestbook too and we find out some things about her life too. It is a very clever idea and it really works. A delightful and easy read that will no doubt warm your heart.

Kiss Me, Kill Me By J. S. Carol

Kiss Me, Kill Me By J. S. Carol

j.s.carol
When Zoe meets Dan, he’s everything she is looking for in a man – intelligent, charming, supportive.
It’s only after they’re married that she realises that he’s controlling, aggressive, paranoid.
And there’s no way out.

Or is there?

Zoe knows she has to escape, but Dan’s found her once before, and she knows he can find her again.
But Dan has plans of his own. Plans that don’t necessarily include Zoe.

Be careful who you trust . . .

My Thoughts:

I was intrigued after reading the blurb for this book, it sounded gripping and it didn’t disappoint. I found it tense and a dark read. The two main characters are Dan and his wife Zoe, he is a very controlling husband and paranoid too. This book is full of twists, you think it is going one way and then something completely different happens. I couldn’t believe how hooked I was and how involved I felt. I definitely want to read more by this author.

I Found You By Lisa Jewell

I Found You By Lisa Jewell

lisa jewelll

Everyone has secrets. What if you can’t remember yours?

‘How long have you been sitting out here?’
‘I got here yesterday.’
‘Where did you come from?’
‘I have no idea.’

Lily has only been married for three weeks. When her new husband fails to come home from work one night, she is left stranded in a new country where she knows no one.

Alice finds a man on the beach outside her house. He has no name, no jacket, no idea what he is doing there. Against her better judgement, she invites him into her home.

But who is he, and how can she trust a man who has lost his memory?

My Thoughts:

For a twisty, fast paced read, Lisa Jewell is the author for you. There are two stories that run parallel to each other and meet up near the end with a very dramatic ending. You would never of guessed what we find out during the middle part of this story and how it all wraps up in the end has been well thought out. Thoroughly enjoyable read.

James Acaster’s Classic Scrapes

James Acaster’s Classic Scrapes

james acaster

James Acaster has been nominated for the Edinburgh Comedy Award five times and has appeared on prime-time TV shows like TASKMASTER, MOCK THE WEEKLIVE AT THE APOLLO and WOULD I LIE TO YOU?

But behind the fame and critical acclaim is a man perpetually getting into trouble. Whether it’s disappointing a skydiving instructor mid-flight, hiding from thugs in a bush wearing a bright red dress, or annoying the Kettering Board Games club, a didgeridoo-playing conspiracy theorist and some bemused Christians, James is always finding new ways to embarrass himself.

Appearing on Josh Widdicombe’s radio show to recount these stories, the feature was christened ‘James Acaster’s classic scrapes’. Here, in his first book, James recounts these tales (including never-before-heard stories) along with self-penned drawings, in all their glorious stupidity.

My Thoughts:

I don’t normally read memoirs unless I really like that person, with James Acaster I do. Not long ago my husband and I went to see him in his stand up comedy show and I absolutely loved him, I couldn’t stop laughing, and laughing hard. Sometimes you just need a really good laugh then this is the book for you. James recalls stories over his child and adulthood and some of them are really funny. The best one for me is about his singing teacher Melissa. But all of them are pretty funny and I love the little drawings he has done too. It would be brilliant to have him write more as I am sure he has got lots more to share with his fans.

Bells and Bows on Mistletoe Row By Emily Harvale

Bells and Bows on Mistletoe Row By Emily Harvale

bells

The last person Juliet Bell expects to see when she returns home for Christmas is Harrison Bow. Especially with the most beautiful woman in the world by his side. Twenty years ago, Juliet and Harrison had the shortest romance in history, consisting of one date – and one blazing row.

But Juliet will never admit when she’s wrong, and Harrison doesn’t forgive easily, so they haven’t seen, or spoken to one another since. Harrison Bow vowed he’d never visit his grandfather at The Grange, again, or drive along Mistletoe Row, the scene of one of the unhappiest times of his life. He hasn’t been back for twenty years and he’s only here now because his brother pleaded with him to come.

At least with his executive assistant joining him, he’ll be able to do some work. But Juliet’s sister, Zoe and Harrison’s brother, Luke have some surprises in store for their elder siblings, and so it seems does Fate. After Harrison risks his life to save Juliet, the least she can do is be nice.

The problem is, Harrison is hotter than the log fire in The Mistletoe pub, and when she’s surrounded by twinkling lights and softly falling snow, it doesn’t take long for her to realise she’s in love with the man she thought she hated. Even if he doesn’t appear to be in love with her.

My Thoughts:

I read this book within a few hours, it is a nice easy read that will melt your heart. It is romantic and fun and all based around Christmas time. There are some wonderful characters in the story and a bit of misunderstanding soon gets sorted out. I have read it after Christmas and I would say it is still acceptable. A perfect read for anyone who wants a easy read.

I received an ARC copy of this book for an honest review.
