Nora Watts is being hunted . . .

When Nora Watts is approached by a man claiming to know her late father, she is thrown into turmoil. Struggling with the imminent death, from cancer, of her friend and mentor Sebastian Crow, she is unprepared for the memories that this encounter brings back. What happened to her father that made him kill himself and abandon Nora and her sister?

Heading to Detroit to try and find some answers about his life there, Nora expects to discover a reason behind his suicide. Instead, she finds more questions than answers.

But trouble always follows Nora, and it’s found her in Detroit, a city that is as broken as she is.

My Thoughts:

I enjoyed the first book and loved how Nora grew. This story didn’t seem to have as much action as the first book but it was still an enjoyable read. You definitely have to read the first book to understand the characters and to make complete sense of what is going on. This is a thriller with lots of memorable characters and a dog called Whisper.

Finding Jess By Julia Ibbotson

Finding Jess By Julia Ibbotson

finding jess.jpg

Single mum Jess has had her world turned upside down. Now it’s about to be turned inside out.

Jess has got a tough life back on track after love-of-her-life husband Simon walked out on her and their beautiful young daughters Katy and Abi. But she has long-time friend and confidante Polly to turn to…until Polly and Simon start having an affair together.

When Polly decides to apply for a job at Jess’s school, in the English department, Jess feels threatened. So why has Polly set her sights on the department head’s role? And why is the school now offering Jess a sideways ‘promotion’?

Jess can no longer trust anyone – including herself. Then out of the blue she is mysteriously sent a clipping for a temporary post in the Ministry of Education in Ghana, where she did a gap year as a teenager, and where she was happy. She is on the brink of losing everything at home but could this be a lifeline?

My Thoughts:

After reading the first two books I was excited to read this one which is the last book in the drumbeats trilogy, whilst I was sad to finish the trilogy I still couldn’t wait to get stuck in and catch up with Jess. I think the personal issues are dealt with sensitively and I found it quite sad what Jess has to go through. A powerful story.

The Chalk Man By C. J. Tudor

The Chalk Man By C. J. Tudor

chalk man.jpg

It was only meant to be a game . . .

None of us ever agreed on the exact beginning.

Was it when we started drawing the chalk figures, or when they started to appear on their own?

Was it the terrible accident?

Or when they found the first body?

My Thoughts:

I just want to say how brilliant the cover of this book looks, the smudges of chalk really add to the atmosphere of the book. I was surprised this was a debut novel as it is really good. It is tense and creepy and you feel as though you are being watched by a chalk man reading it. A chilling read.

He Said She Said By Erin Kelly

He Said She Said By Erin Kelly

In the hushed aftermath of a total eclipse, Laura witnesses a brutal attack. She and her boyfriend Kit call the police, and in that moment, four lives change forever.

Fifteen years on, Laura and Kit live in fear.

And while Laura knows she was right to speak out, she also knows that you can never see the whole picture: something is always hidden . . . something she never could have guessed.

My Thoughts:

I have never read any books by this author before and the plot looked interesting so I thought I would give it a go and I am really glad I did. It has suspense through out so you never really know what will happen between the pages. I found it gripping and a real compulsive read. Now I really want to read more of this author’s books.

Where Has Mummy Gone? By Cathy Glass

Where Has Mummy Gone? By Cathy Glass

where has mummy.jpg

The true story of Melody, aged 8, the last of five siblings to be taken from her drug dependent single mother and brought into care.

When Cathy is told about Melody’s terrible childhood, she is sure she’s heard it all before. But it isn’t long before she feels there is more going on than she or the social services are aware of. Although Melody is angry at having to leave her mother, as many children coming into care are, she also worries about her obsessively – far more than is usual. Amanda, Melody’s mother, is also angry and takes it out on Cathy at contact, which again is something Cathy has experienced before. Yet there is a lost and vulnerable look about Amanda, and Cathy starts to see why Melody worries about her and feels she needs looking after.

When Amanda misses contact, it is assumed she has forgotten, but nothing could have been further from the truth…

My Thoughts:

I am a big fan of Cathy Glass books. They never fail to disappoint and bring a tear to my eye. This story we find out about Melody and what her and her mum have been through. There is more to the story than meets the eye and Cathy as she does best looks after Melody and its nice to see their relationship develop. Already looking forward to the next one.

The Cottage on Sunshine Beach By Holly Martin

The Cottage on Sunshine Beach By Holly Martin

holly martin cottage

Melody Rosewood loves her new home in idyllic Sandcastle Bay. The beautiful little cottage on the edge of Sunshine Beach, with its bright yellow door and view of the sea has captured her heart. And she loves being close by to her family and best friend Tori Graham.

Life by the sea is pretty much perfect, there’s just one thing missing…

Gorgeous Jamie Jackson, with his cheeky grin and adorable puppy, works as a sculptor opposite Melody’s jewellery shop. From the moment he and Melody meet sparks fly. But despite their instant attraction, a past heartache is holding Jamie back.

As Melody starts to make a life for herself in the close-knit, quirky seaside community, she realises Jamie could be the one for her. But as the two of them take a chance on romance, it’s one dating disaster after another. Are they destined to always be just good friends?

Or will Melody finally find her happily-ever-after in Sandcastle Bay?

My Thoughts:

Here we meet up with old friends if you have read Holly’s previous novel called The Holiday Cottage by the sea. I really enjoyed coming back to Sandcastle Beach and I can definitely see why Melody loves it so much. Even though this is Melody’s story we see other characters pop up and we find out about their lives too. Romance, seaside, what more could you want? I loved this one and cannot wait until the next one is out.

The rise and fall of Becky Sharpe By Sarra Manning

The rise and fall of Becky Sharpe By Sarra Manning

sarra manning.jpg

Becky Sharp has big dreams and no connections. Determined to swap the gutters of Soho for the glamorous, exclusive world behind the velvet rope, Becky will do anything to achieve fame, riches and status.

Whether it’s seducing society’s most eligible bachelors, or befriending silly debutantes and rich old ladies, Becky Sharp is destined for great things. Because it might be tough at the top but it’s worse at the bottom.

From London to Paris and beyond, Becky Sharp is going places – so get the hell out of her way…

My Thoughts:

What we find here is a very clever way of updating a classic novel which is really rather funny. It is an easy to read story with a reality show, scandal, revenge and lies all packed in. I haven’t actually read the classic but I will be now after reading this book has inspired me too.
