Ella runs Happily Ever After, a bookshop nestled in the cobbled streets of York.

She’s a wife, a mother and a successful novelist. But something is missing . . .

One day a strange girl comes into Ella’s shop. Bryony is shy and unsure, and Ella feels a strange connection to her.

With the help of one very special book – and a little touch of magic – can these women help each other find the fairy tale endings they’ve been searching for?

My Thoughts:

I was given a copy of this book for an honest review. I love the cover it is simple but pretty and makes you want to delve into the story. I liked the story about Ella and how she copes with being a wife and mother alongside trying to write her book. Then she meets Bryony and feels a connection with her, but what will happen? I found this a nice easy read and it gave me a warm glow inside.

With nowhere to turn to for help and no one left to trust, Marc is forced to rely on the elusive Rubicon group and their operative Lucy Keyes. Ex US Army, Lucy also knows what it’s like to be an outsider, and she’s got the skills that Marc is sorely lacking.

A terrorist attack is coming, one bigger and more deadly than has ever been seen before. With the eyes of the security establishment elsewhere, only Lucy and Marc can stop the attack before it’s too late.

My Thoughts:

I didn’t enjoy this book as much as I thought I would though other people may like it. I didn’t find it fast paced as I like thrillers to be and I would say it was an easy read which you don’t expect a thriller to be. Readers that enjoyed I am Pilgrim may enjoy it but it was not for me.

Silent Water By Jan Ruth ( Book 3)

Silent Water By Jan Ruth ( Book 3)

silent water.jpg

The tragedy and comedy that is Jack’s life; a dangerous web of lies concludes a bitter-sweet end.
Jack Redman, estate agent to the Cheshire set and someone who’s broken all the rules. An unlikely hero or a misguided fool?

In this sequel to Dark Water, Jack and Anna must face the consequences of their actions. As the police close in and Patsy’s manipulative ways hamper the investigations, will Jack escape unscathed?

With her career in tatters and an uncertain future, Anna has serious decisions to make. Her silence could mean freedom for Jack, but an emotional prison for herself. Is remaining silent the ultimate test of faith, or is it end of the line for Jack and Anna?

My Thoughts:

I don’t think I have ever loved a series as much as I have loved this one. I really feel as though I know all the characters. This is the third book in the series and I strongly recommend reading the first two which are Wild Water and Dark Water. The scenery and settings that Jan describes are just beautiful you can almost imagine you are there. We come back to Jack’s story and whether Anna and himself are going to reveal their secret. The second book left us on a cliff hanger and now events have caught up with Jack and Anna. What is going to happen and how? I was blown away by how good this series was and I am really starting to miss reading about Jack’s story.

Dark Water By Jan Ruth (Book 2)

dark water

The tragedy and comedy that is Jack’s life; is there a future for him and Anna, or is the past too destructive?
Jack Redman, estate agent to the Cheshire set and skilled juggler of complex relationships. Someone to break all the rules, or an unlikely hero?
In this sequel to Wild Water Jack and Anna return to discover that history repeats itself. Anna’s long-awaited success as a serious artist is poised to happen, but her joy, along with her relationship with Jack, is threatened by old scores.

Simon Banks is a depressed and unstable man with a plan. He wants to wipe out his past by buying a brighter future, but Jack Redman stands in his way.
Will Jack ever escape the legacy of lies and deceit left by his ex-wife? Can Jack and Anna hold it all together, or will tragic repercussions from Jack’s past blow them apart forever?

My Thoughts:

You have to read the first book which is called Wild Water to understand and know the characters, I was so glad to read the next part of Jack’s story. I got a sense right from the start that things weren’t looking very good for Jack and his family, he is torn between Anna and his children but which will he choose. I still found Patsy horrible some of the things she does is awful. I was so intrigued by what would happen I read this book in a day. It was brilliant.

Wild Water By Jan Ruth

Wild Water By Jan Ruth

wild water

The tragedy and comedy that is Jack’s life; secrets, lies and family ties. Jack Redman, estate agent to the Cheshire set. An unlikely hero, or someone to break all the rules? Wild water is the story of forty-something estate agent, Jack, who is stressed out not only by work, bills and the approach of Christmas but by the feeling that he and his wife, Patsy are growing apart.

His misgivings prove founded when he discovers Patsy is having an affair, and is pregnant. At the same time as his marriage begins to collapse around him, he becomes reacquainted with his childhood sweetheart, Anna, whom he left for Patsy twenty-five years before. His feelings towards Anna reawaken, but will life and family conflicts conspire to keep them apart again?

My Thoughts:

This is the first book in a three part series of Jan Ruth’s books. After reading a previous novel of Jan’s I was very happy to receive these three books. I love how vibrant the heather is on the front of this cover, it makes you want to snuggle up with a hot chocolate which is exactly what I did. This is a contemporary romance but so much more, I  instantly fell in love with Jack and really hoped that his horrible wife Patsy would see the pain she had inflicted on their poor children. It is a heart wrenching story but I really did feel emotional for Jack and what happens.

The Queen of Wishful Thinking By Milly Johnson

The Queen of Wishful Thinking By Milly Johnson

milly johnson

When Lewis Harley has a health scare in his early forties, he takes it as a wake-up call. So he and his  wife Charlotte leave behind life in the fast lane and Lewis opens the antique shop he has dreamed of. Bonnie Brookland was brought up in the antiques trade and now works for the man who bought out her father’s business, but she isn’t happy there. So when she walks into Lew’s shop, she knows this is the place for her.

As Bonnie and Lew start to work together, they soon realise that there is more to their relationship than either thought. But Bonnie is trapped in an unhappy marriage, and Lew and Charlotte have more problems than they care to admit. Each has secrets in their past which are about to be uncovered. Can they find the happiness they both deserve?

My Thoughts:

I was so happy to finally get my hands on this book not just because I love reading Milly Johnson’s books but because I am incredibly lucky to be on the back of this book. I was over the moon. I really loved this book and I have to say I think this is Milly’s best one yet. It was lovely to see the antique dealers all coming together for each other and some of their nicknames were pretty funny. The story is set in the same location as The Teashop on the Corner so it gave the story a bit of familiarity. There is sadness in the book and I did really feel sorry for Lewis, but I loved Bonnie and how strong willed she is and how she fought to change her life. If I was ever in her situation I would love to be as strong as her. Brilliantly written story, one I will not forget.

Close Your Eyes By Nicci Cloke

Close Your Eyes By Nicci Cloke

close your eyes

Southfield High School is oh so normal, with its good teachers, its bad, and its cliques. But despite the cliques, there’s a particular group of friends who have known each other forever and know that they can rely on each other for anything.

There’s the twins: Vis, rebellious, kind, and just a tiny bit worried about what the hell she’s going to do once this year is over, and Aisha, smart, quiet and observant. Then there’s Remy, the loudmouth, and Gemma, who’s more interested in college boys and getting into the crap club in town. And then there’s Elise: the pretty one.

But at the start of Year 11, when the group befriend the new boy, Elijah, things start to change. The group find themselves not as close as they used to be.

Until one Tuesday, when the students are trapped inside the school building. And one of them has a gun.

My Thoughts:

I received a advanced copy of this book and it really opened up my eyes. The story is set in a secondary school with a group of friends being centre of attention. The friends all have different characters there is a sport one, a quiet one, one who likes to flirt, the smart one so basically like a typical teenager group of friends. But then something dreadful happens, someone has a gun. The format of the book switches from text message style to interview style which made it more gripping for me. It also was at present and past , so you can get an idea of how each character is feeling at certain times.

Two teen theatre-fanatics. One dream. And SUMMER DRAMA CAMP.

All-round theatre-enthusiast, Sarah – better known by her showbiz name, Sayde – is a girl with ambitions too big for the small and conventional town she lives in. Her life doesn’t have the razzle-dazzle she craves. For once she wants to feel special, noticed and be the centre of attention.

This summer Sadye has her talents set on Wildewood’s prestigious theatre summer camp. And with her best friend Demi – a flamboyant falsetto, who is equally thrilled to be leaving their small town of Brenton – they will both experience a season of hormones, hissy fits, jazz hands, song and dance, true love and unitards! But despite all the glitz and glam, there comes rivalry and competition, and Sadye will have to prove her talents more than she has ever had to before.

Summer at Wildewood will not only determine Sadye’s future – but will also test her friendships.

My Thoughts:

I received an advanced copy of this book. This was a little bit different to what I normally read but I thought I would give it a go. I can imagine teenagers that are into drama and theatre loving this book. The storyline was kind of what I expected it to be, Sarah or Sayde as she likes to be called go to a drama camp with her friends expect there to be drama’s (excuse the pun), falling outs and romance.

The Beachside Sweet Shop By Karen Clarke

The Beachside Sweet Shop By Karen Clarke

karen clarke

Chocolate fudge, butterscotch and raspberry bonbons… treat yourself to some sugary treats, a big slice of friendship and a sprinkling of romance at The Beachside Sweet Shop.

When Marnie Appleton inherited a sweet shop from her grandfather she was determined to do his legacy proud. The shop has been a much-loved feature of the little seaside town of Shipley for years, but now Marnie needs to bring it up to date, and she’s recruited gorgeous new assistant Josh to help.

Marnie gets busy redecorating the shop and choosing delicious new sweets to stock, but things are never that simple: new neighbour Isobel, a fame-hungry blogger, is on a crusade against sugar, and she’ll go to any lengths to secure bad publicity for Marnie’s shop.

Marnie fights back with homemade sugar-free treats, but with her best friend Beth heavily pregnant, her grandmother Celia recovering from an operation, and her very recently ex-boyfriend Alex returning to Shipley with a new love, Marnie has a lot on her plate.

And then there’s Josh, with whom Marnie is struggling to keep her relationship strictly professional…Will both the sweet shop and love flourish?

My Thoughts:

I was very lucky to receive a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I loved it. I really like the cover it looks good enough to eat. The story centre’s around Marnie’s sweetshop now I am a big chocolate lover but I do also love sweets, so when I was reading this book I got pretty hungry thinking of the raspberry bonbons which are delicious. Running a sweetshop would be my dream job though I am not sure my waistline would like it. My parents live in Dorset so it was a nice little touch when Karen mentioned Wareham. I am really looking forward to Karen’s next book which is out in June.

Black Eyed Susans By Julia Heaberlin

Black Eyed Susans By Julia Heaberlin

black

Seventeen-year-old Tessa, dubbed a ‘Black-Eyed Susan’ by the media, became famous for being the only victim to survive the vicious attack of a serial killer. Her testimony helped to put a dangerous criminal behind bars – or so she thought.

Now, decades later the black-eyed susans planted outside Tessa’s bedroom window seem to be a message from a killer who should be safely in prison.

Haunted by fragmented memories of the night she was attacked and terrified for her own teenage daughter’s safety, can Tessa uncover the truth about the killer before it’s too late?

My Thoughts:

I was looking forward to getting stuck into this book as I had heard alot of hype about it being a really good thriller. I am sorry to say I was really disappointed with it. To begin with I thought ok this might be good but then I slowly lost interest, there was not any build up or pace to it. It just wasn’t for me but other people may like it.
