Lyrebird By Cecelia Ahern

She will change your life forever…

In the south-west of Ireland, rugged mountains meet bright blue lakes and thick forests. Deep in the woods, a young woman lives alone, forever secluded from the world, her life a well-kept secret. She possesses an extraordinary talent, the likes of which no-one has seen before: a gift that will earn her the nickname Lyrebird.

When Solomon stumbles into Laura’s solitary existence, her life is turned on its head. Pulled from her peaceful landscape to the cacophony of Dublin, she is confronted by a world desperate to understand her.

But while Solomon knows the world will embrace Laura, will it free her to spread her wings – or will it trap her in a gilded cage? Like all wild birds, she needs to fly free…

My Thoughts:

I was lucky enough to win a signed copy of this book. I like reading Cecelia’ s books as they are always so thought provoking and deeply moving. The story is about a young woman called Laura who has lived a solitary life but gets discovered by a documentary crew. Laura has an amazing ability where she can replicate sounds without knowing how and why she does it. Then a big show wants her on it and we see how she copes with life in the limelight. We see her through a range of emotions, sometimes I did feel sorry for her. I did enjoy the story.

The Lonely Life of Biddy Weir By Lesley Allen

The Lonely Life of Biddy Weir By Lesley Allen

biddy-weir
Biddy Weir is a quirky girl.

Abandoned by her mother as a baby, and with a father who’s not quite equipped for the challenges of modern parenting, Biddy lives in her own little world, happy to pass her time painting by the sea and watching the birds go by. That is, until she meets Alison Flemming.

Because there are a few things about Biddy that aren’t normal, you see. And Alison isn’t afraid to point them out to the world.

All of a sudden, Biddy’s quiet life is thrown into turmoil. If only there was someone to convince her that, actually, everyone’s a little bit weird . . .

My Thoughts:

When I had read the blurb on the back of this book, I knew I would be reading a very emotional story but I was prepared to read it as bullying is something that I am very aware of. I have been a victim of bullying, never as harsh as the girls were to Biddy who is the main character in the book but to an extent I could relate to Biddy. I felt so sorry for Biddy from what she has to go through but I knew in the end so she would be alright. The relationship she has with her therapist Terri is lovely and I am glad she manages to bring Biddy out of her shell. A  beautifully poignant cover.

Two women, two very different lives – one perfect solution to escape festive heartbreak!

Tucked away in the idyllic English countryside, Daisy Fischer’s cosy little cottage has always been her safe haven. But when her completely dependable boyfriend issues her an ultimatum, Daisy realises there’s a whole world out there she’s missing out on.

Florence Cortes’s life couldn’t be better – gorgeous apartment right on the beach, fabulous job and dreamy boyfriend, or so she thought. Suddenly, Flo’s life isn’t so perfect after all.

When the girls house swap for the holidays, it’s not long before Daisy is being distracted by sun, sea and sexy Javier while Flo finds herself snowbound for Christmas with only handsome neighbour Hugo and a house full of animals to keep her company.

Love actually does seem to be all around this Christmas, but in the places Flo and Daisy least expect to find it…

My Thoughts:

I am a big fan of the Tippermere series, you can read this as a standalone but to find out about the characters I would recommend reading them all.  In this story we get two very different locations, the busy streets of Barcelona and the slow paced way of life in Cheshire, they are bought together for a fantastic Christmas treat.I really liked Daisy as she is kind of like me in a way. Flo seems lovely too. I liked the idea behind this story for both women to swap homes, they both go on an incredible journey and see what really matters to them and have a little romance too. I wonder if there will be another book? A fabulous festive read.

The truth has a funny way of revealing itself, and when it does St Carys will be a very different place indeed…

My Thoughts:

I am not sure if this is going to be the actual cover for this book as the book itself is not out till 12th January 2017. I was so excited to get an advanced copy of this book as I am really into Jill Mansell’s books. I loved this story, it is emotional, there are laugh out loud moments and there is romance. This is a story about Clemency, such an unusual name but she suits it. We get to hear her story aswell as all the other fantastic characters. I did predict what was going to happen in the end but I wasn’t expecting what happened inbetween prepare to be shocked. It was a brilliant read that I couldn’t put down.

It’s Christmas in the Cornish coastal village of Mount Polbearne – a time for family, friends and feasting.

Polly Waterford loves running the Little Beach Street Bakery. She’s at her happiest when she’s creating delicious treats and the festive season always inspires her to bake and knead something extra special for the village residents. In fact, the only thing she loves more than her bakery is curling up with her gorgeous boyfriend, Huckle. She’s determined that this Christmas is going to be their best one yet, but life doesn’t always work out as planned…

When Polly’s best friend Kerensa turns up with a secret that threatens the life Polly and Huckle have built together, the future begins to look uncertain. And then a face from Polly’s past reappears and things become even more complicated. Polly can usually find solace in baking but she has a feeling that’s not going to be enough this time. Can she get things back on track so that everyone has a merry Christmas?

My Thoughts:

I was so excited to read this book as I have been waiting for my next instalment from the little beach street bakery. You do not have to but I would certainly recommend reading the previous books in the little beach street bakery series. We catch up with Polly in thus story and see how she is coping with the run up to Christmas, she always puts other people first even if her boyfriend Huckle comes second.

She is such a lovely lady and very caring too. Polly also has a puffin called Neil who pops up occasionally in this story. It is a lovely Christmas read that you just wont want to put down.

ALL SHE WANTED WAS A HOME FOR CHRISTMAS

London, 1936

Ill and stuck in hospital at Christmas, seven year old Cora Kelly is excited to receive a visit from her mother, who brings her the gift of a gingerbread man. But little does Cora know that this will be the last time she sees her . . .

As Cora continues her recovery on a farm in the beautiful Norfolk countryside, tragedy strikes her family and she moves back to London with her new guardian, Eliza.

Here they live a happy, if simple, life. But, as the Second World War approaches, and the past comes knocking, everything changes.

Will Cora be able to escape the inevitable, or is she destined to repeat her parents’ mistakes?

My Thoughts:

This is a story about Cora and her family in London in 1936. The detail about this era is fascinating and very well descriptive. Poor little Cora after being in hospital for months what she did not realise is that when her mother came to visit her it would be for the very last time. To help with her recovery she goes to stay at a farm in Norfolk but when tragedy strikes her family she has to move back to London. I have read Sheila’s previous novels and enjoyed them and this one was very good too. A heart warming tale.

Phoebe Smith’s Private Blog By Lynda Renham

Phoebe Smith’s Private Blog By Lynda Renham

lynda.jpg

Fashion conscious Phoebe Smith wants only one thing: a date for the works party in six weeks’ time. She embarks on a journey to find her man and keeps a private blog of all her disastrous encounters. But when her four-year-old nephew gets into her account, Phoebe’s problems only just begin.

With Tinder calamities, a male escort and a pork pie addiction, Phoebe tackles her biggest problem: the just too irritating Harry Bloom. Come with Phoebe on her search for the perfect man and see who will accompany her to the party in this hilarious romantic comedy novel.

My Thoughts:

I received an advanced reading copy of this book for an honest review. I am a big fan of Lynda’s books, they always seem to get funnier especially this one. I loved Phoebe from the start, as I felt like I could connect with her. She is on a hunt to get a man and goes on a very funny journey of finding Mr Right, whilst keeping a blog about it all. You can kind of guess what happens but it is the most enjoyable, laugh out loud read that I have read for a while (probably since Lynda’s previous novel). This book will not disappoint.
